As the Fall seasons winds down, what better way to watch the leaves change and temperature cool with a fresh, Harvest ale.
A - True to the brewery's description, Harvest pours a pale gold, with light orange highlights. Builds a rather flat 2 fingered head that lasts as a little cap for almost the whole beer. Absolutely insane amounts of carbonation rising from the glass. A pretty moderate amount of lacing.
S - Smell is actually a bit more mild than I would've expected. Heavy notes of citrus with the pine and hops taking a backseat. The fruits really dominate the nose and next comes a flowery lightness, then pine. Relatively smooth blended and refreshing.
T - However, the taste is completely reversed. This beer really does have a bitter profile. Bitter in front, bitter in back. In between, though, is where this beer shines. Lemon, grapefruit, orange, and freshly cut grass welcome the mouth after the initial bitterness, but not content with the early exit, the bitterness comes back with a vengeance soon after. It's a shame, really, as the fruit and floral are the best part of this beer, but are too short-lived to make a big impact.
M - Mouthfeel is pleasant. The head actually lends a creamy characteristic which is welcome and unusual in the style, but helps contrast with the bitterness. Heavily carbonated throughout.
D - Drinkability is moderate. I am left wondering how great this beer would be if the bitterness were turned down a bit, because as of now, the bitterness really detracts from the beer's drinkability. Alcohol is hidden well, and the flavors are spot on.
