Appearance- Pale straw yellow body, brighter orange hues poking through. Finger thick pillowy white head. Slight to moderate carbonation visible.
Smell- Bright, bursting citrus / tropical fruit notes. Mangos, tangerines, slight orange, slight lemon
Taste- Nice hop bitterness comes through, along with bright tropical notes that follow nose. Slight malt character underneath.
Mouthfeel- Surprisingly, a little creamy. Nice carbonation.
Overall- Very nice, possibly my favorite IPA from Founders. Loving the tropical notes, bursting in aroma and flavor. Super bright, super bold and forward.

Poured; golden body; small rim of head, light hoppiness with a tad bit of spice, malty, with an easy bitter aftertaste.
Excellent beer, a must try. I will now enjoy the rest of my beer, in peace.

Poured from a bottle.

A) light golden color, clear. Mod head and retention.

S). Citrus and floral. Still. Catch the Backend malt breadlines

T) wonderful. So drinkable. Crisp, clean hop finish also. Perfect bitterness to back the firm malt background. Again as Founders does, it's balanced. Love it

M) full, and crisp with moderate carbonation. Medium body

Overall, just a wonderful beer for those who love IPA but really love the subtlety of a balanced fresh hop one. Amazing, wish it could be more than an October thing.

A-a clear orangish golden color with visible carbonation bubbles and two to three fingers worth of white head

S-some citrus and some pine with a light caramel sweetness

T-taste is more bitter than the smell would suggest, somewhat spicy with pine and citrus hops. Caramel malt backbone.

M-medium body, moderate carbonation

Overall very drinkable but you still get a good amount of hop bitterness

The beer pours a bubbly white head that dissipates quickly and leaves some nice lacing on the glass. The beer itself is a light amber that borders on gold. The beer is clear and, therefore, obviously filtered. The smell has a strong tropical citrus and pine notes with a slightly bready note at the end that makes the smell rather sweet. The taste is similar to the smell. The taste starts off with a citrus and slightly piney hop taste with a slight malt sweetness at the end and in the aftertaste. The beer has a very hoppy aftertaste that lingers for a while. The mouthfeel is very smooth with a bit of carbonation. The beer also has a slightly sticky afterfeel. Overall, a fantastic beer and one worth getting again. The only regret is that it's not more widely available.

Extremely hard to find as i checked at numerous places all october. I luckily scored the only case one beer place received this year. Bottled 10/1/14. Smells great and unique. Wonderful color and nice thick creamy head. From the first sip you can tell this is the real deal......beautiful whole fresh hops. Tastes of raw raw hops, fruity sweet, and canibus. Each sip lingers and leaves you craving for more. Forget pliny. Get yourself a harvest ale. Cheers and thank you founders for this work of art!

Remember that 7 up commercial with "crisp and clean with no caffeine?"

This is the 7up of IPAs

Unbelievable bright, super crisp--drinks like a 5% beer (wish it was) with a super juicy hop presence that is all citrus and so easy to drink. A little higher in ETOH than many others of the wet hop style but you would never know it.

When I opened the bottle, I would swear that I had a Zombie dust in my hands. The smell was awesome. The flavor was not quite Zombie, but was still very enjoyable. Nice job founders...

Poured from a 12 FL. OZ. bottle into a pint glass. BOTTLED 09/30/2014.

Appearance: Pours a golden body with a thin white head.

Smell: Light juicy hop and strong pilsner malt aroma.

Taste: Spicy hop flavor. Firm crisp bitterness. Sweet pilsner malts.

Mouthfeel: Medium to light body, sharp bitter aftertaste.

Overall: Not at all what I was expecting. I was expecting a much juicier, tropical/citrus hop bomb. Bitterness is high, but body is light and crisp. Non of the classic ale fruitiness. If you told me this was a continental pilsner, I would have believed you.

Man, this really is worth the hype. Some places are just allowing customers to purchase one bottle of this, that is obscene. This comes in a four pack, that is how its is meant to be marketed, sell it that way. Don't try to take advantage of customers on this or any other beer.

Aroma: Hops, nice aromatic floral hops. It has a bit of onion going on, but I enjoy IPA's that have that in its profile.

Taste: So smooth, hops, balance well. This beer is amazing really, I may have to purchase more if my store still has some. It has a fairly high abv., not crazy high, but bordering on the DIPA range, but its crisp, and refreshing. Nice balance of hops and malts. One of the better beers I have had this season.

Overall: If you can find this, buy it, don't get ran over by stores that are trying to burn you by charging more per single to get more profit. Luckily, I have some honest guys I deal with. Its not that rare. Just limited. Go out and find yourself some!

Re-reviewing this; last time I had it was a 10/2/2013 bottle consumed on 11/25/2013 (courtesy of cavedave). This bottle is just 3 weeks old, so worth a redo.

12oz bottle (bottled 9/30/2014) into a tulip (thanks again LambicPentameter!). Pours a nice honey straw color, crystal clear w/ a frothy white head, decent lace.

Aroma is juicy grapefruit and orange, two of my favorite aromas for a fresh-hop beer. Detectably sweet with a hint of alcohol on the nose.

Taste is a mix of citrus and pineapple (is pineapple a citrus fruit?). Maybe a touch of mango or papaya in there too. Bready pale malt. Sweet, with a noticeable booziness that distracts a bit from the hops.

Mouthfeel is medium, almost full-bodied. Satisfying. Goes down easy.

Overall a solid offering from Founders, but I did find that the bigger malt bill and higher ABV was competing with the hops a bit.

A - Golden yellow, clear, with a short white head, and a touch of lacing.

S - Pine, lemon, and floral notes. A bit of dankness, too. Hops all the way.

T - Following the nose, coupled with fresh cut grass, and a spicy, punchy sweetness from the beer's malt backbone. The close is a sharp turn to bitterness, that fades slowly.

M - Oily, with drying. Given the hard bitter element in the close, the build could have been far worse.

O - This is a good IPA, with a unique hop flavor profile. Bright and full, with a strong bitter end, the wet hop comes through in the green notes, floral elements, and subtle spiciness.

Brewed a few weeks ago, so fresh.

Poured into a snifter. Gold gold. Good head. Nice retention. High clarity. Beer is cold and looks warm.

Nice bright hop notes of citrus with a good bit of malt sweetness poking through. Many would call out "tropical" and "mango", but I'll call it what it is. Grapefruit and pine.

For 7.6% this drinks rather rough. By no means the sort you can gulp in refreshment. Neverthless the flavors are not well wrapped, and by that I mean there isn't a great sense of harmony between the wet hops and the nice malt sweetness. They seem to be isolated. Alcohol is not well hidden in my opinion.

Good beer. Doesn't hold a candle to its lower ABV version (6.5% or 6.7%...can't recall) from a few years back. Like Green Flash, Founders seems too erect over high ABVs. There was no reason to turn up the dial on this. I guess they felt it justified the higher price point.

Still, at 10.99 a four pack, and while I don't love it, I'll happily finish them off this week.

Hop perfection in a glass. It smacks your tongue, and you're all like - "Whoa!", and then, it mellows out, and you're like "Ahh" .. and then you have another, by the time you look up, you realize you've gone through the whole 4-pack in a little over an hour.

The beer pours golden yellow with a billowing white head, and the smell is immediate and intensely of mangoes and citrus, very inviting. Taste is much like the smell bright citrus and tropical fruits lots of flavor, very lovely. Mouthfeel is great, very smooth well carbonated, not boozy, a pleasure to drink. This beer is fantastic; a great appearance, great smell, lots of flavor and great texture, falls a little short in the finish though as it lacks a final punch. Fantastic beer; I will savor these.

An amazing IPA. Smells of sweet citrus that mixes nicely with sweet malt. The beer is crystal clear. Less carbonation than what's typical of the style. Tastes of grapefruity hops. Malt is there too, leaving a bready/biscuity flavor. This is classic act from Founders.

Poured into a stange glass from the bottle. I got this pretty much right off the truck. It pours a somewhat large head that goes away instantly, and its clear as a bell.

The smell is absolutely excellent. Dank hops just dominate the nose. This is one of the best smells I've seen in any beer. It is rich and citrusy with grapefruit, orange, and pineapple.

The taste is undeniably excellent. It is just like the nose, only more gratifingly hoppy. The is suprisingly smooth, with delicious citrus notes and some pleasant bitterness. It is so good that I mostly want to sip it.

This beer ends great as well and leaves a lingering fruity hop note in the mouth. This is a great beer. The only downside I could see to this is that it comes pretty dear in expensive four packs, and that it is competing with Breakfast Stout for my money.

Enjoyed on draft at Founders on Harvest Day.

Harvest Ale pours a clear, brassy shade of gold with a soapy, 1-finger head. The aroma is where this one shines: light orange, white peaches, apple skin, pine, and caramel. Smells fantastic, fruity, herbal, and almost tea-like. Taste is very citrusy, with distinct flavors of sugary lemon, orange, and grapefruit. But it's a slightly sweet, rather than bitter, citrus flavor that's very refreshing. There's a strong hop presence, but it's flowery, muted, and lightly piney. The mouthfeel is just right: medium-bodied, medium-carbed, and slightly dry.

Founders nailed this one…my favorite in the harvest ale genre.

Draught @ Headkeeper: This one pours a fairly clear straw yellow color. There was a small white head and it left some lacing. The aroma is a bit milder. Some malts, citrus and earthy hops, and slightly musty. The taste is good. Nice malt body. Somewhat tart/bitter flavor. Some pine and lemon hops. Nice.

Poured from 12 oz glass into large tulip glass. A slighty hazy golden ale with a finger or so of white head and minimal lacing. Aroma was a little muted. Not sure the age of the bottle I got, but it could have been on the shelf for a while. I couldn't find a date. Some citrus and pine combined with caramel. Taste was very good, but again the hops had probably faded a bit as they are not 'in your face'. Nice balance of sweet caramel and bitter hops with just a bit of citrus and pine flavor. Overall, its good but I was hoping for more from this. Its solid and I'll try it again, but hopefully a fresher bottle.

I'm not sure what brother Jason is talking about here...I agree it's top-notch, but wtf is blond tobacco and hemp seed oil?

Grapefruity and swillable. Had it next to Centennial and it's what wet hopped is meant to be....piney and citrusy yet light somehow.

Tastes damn good...and it stands out among other IPAs consumed in the same session.

pours a golden yellow with a little bit of foam on top. just noticed the bottled on date is October 2, 2013. we're almost into april now so I guess I aint gettin' the freshest there is....
smell is bland, muted, but with hops. not much else.
taste is sweet and honey-like up front with (almost) an explosion of fruit and caramel sweetness at the end. wow. biscuit sweet up front, caramel sweet at the end. slightly bitter hop in the middle. this is awesome. and it's old? someone else nailed it saying "lemon, orange and white grapefruit". that is exactly how this one tastes, and he was speaking from an older bottle also. this one is awesome. extremely sessionable and a 7.6% on top of that!! I can drink this on all day!!!!

poured a golden yellow in color with slight orange highlights, a good thin chunky head that left good bead like lacing on the glass. It had a nice earthy leafy aroma upfront on the nose, hints of citrus, underlying grain notes and mild hop character. The hops came through more on the palate alongside some citrus notes, slight bitter flavor, bready grains and a touch of earthiness. The brew was light in body with a fair amount of carbonation and a clean crisp finish.

poured into 20oz pint glass from bottle...

a: 1.5 finger head. bright white. little hazy golden ale but i didn't decant.

s: huge hop aroma. grapefruit, lemon, lime. very fresh. light toast malt backbone.

t: fresh hops punching through. tons of hop flavor but not over the top bitterness. malt hangs in there to balance.

m: medium carbonation. dry finish. lingering bitterness.

o: this is a great beer. unfortunately i've held onto this one in my fridge a bit too long as these are best fresh.

A- Pours hazy and golden with a tint of orange. A nice one finger white head forms with good retention. Loads of lacing clings to the glass until I need a new one. This is what a beer should look like.

S- A strong citrus aroma greets my senses first. Oranges and grapefruits. Perfect. A light bready malt note somewhere behind that. Then more oranges.

T- A hop wave of citrus flavor takes over the palate accompanied with an earthly malt backbone that balances this ale nicely. This is a complex but smooth act that finishes dry and spicy.

M- Feels malty, somewhat grainy and chewy. Medium to heavy body.

O- Founders has really outdone themselves with this one. Incredibly balanced brew that leaves me wanting more. An enormous hop presence backed up with malts that are powerful and graceful. Well done Founders. Well done.
