Thought this was new but apparently not. Found on my search for Broo Doo.

A - from the bottle. Pours light orange/yellow into a tulip. The head is meager - 1 fingerbreadth, settles quickly. Not exactly clear but nothing floating around in there. Lacing is nice - not huge, but good.

S - some nice sweet fruitiness. Bready maltiness in there as well. Somewhat underwhelming, but my expectations were probably way too high.

T - fantastically balanced. Hop bombiness that doesn't scorch off your tongue but packs plenty of punch. It knows its place though, and lets the malt have a say as well. There's some resin in there too.

M - way too easy to drink. Silky smooth and carbonated just right. Crisp and refreshing for a heavier beer. A little chewy at the end if you decide not to swallow (not recommended).

O - it's good. Founders, being who they are, set my expectations way too high. A really solid beer, but I can't put it in the 95-96 range that it has on BA. Definitely worth a shot.

Drank from a 12 fl. oz. (355ml) bottle purchased at Cambridge Wine & Spirits, Cambridge, MA
Bottled 10/03/13
Served in a pint glass

The liquid poured a completely clear, medium amber color and was topped by a frothy, two-plus finger tall, off-white crown. Sheets of sudsy lacing coated the glass and stuck around long after the beer was finished.

The aroma was amazingly hoppy. Fruity and pleasantly sweet. Tropical fruit notes dominated. Mango, pineapple and passion fruit came through strongest. Dank, weed-like notes were also quite noticeable. Some orange peel appeared as well.

The flavor profile was drastically different from the aroma. Like the nose, it too was super hoppy and bright. In this case, however, the hops were incredibly dry and bitter, and much more one-dimensional. Intense notes of grapefruit pith completely overwhelmed the palate. The finish was super piney and bitter. The oily, resinous hops were relentless and gave my tongue a real lashing.

The mouthfeel was quite thin for the style. This felt a lot more like a thinner-bodied pale ale than a typical IPA. The liquid was slightly creamy and contained a fine, mellow effervescence.

I often find that most breweries who produce a wet hopped beer feel the need to make it so hop-centric that the bitterness becomes more a focus than the actual hop flavor. Founders Harvest Ale is unfortunately no exception to this. If they could perhaps dial up the malts and create more balance and body in the beer, this could be fantastic.

Pours golden with a slight haze and plenty of bubbles coming to the top. A massive head of soft white foam that fell slowly to a layer on top and left scads of lacing. The nose is pretty and floral. Bright sweet fruit peel, orange and pineapple with a touch of malt sweetness. Taste is sweet, clean and crisp. Biscuit malt makes this tasty and full flavored. The hops are mighty and splendid. The body of the beer is silken and with a good balance this beer flows very smoothly. It has a touch of alcohol on the palate but it is not unpleasant . There is a bit of grapefruit and subtle pine with a firm bitter that is quite complimentary. Slick mouthfeel with a touch of oil. The resin doesn't kick out too strong and this leaves a bit sticky with a sweetness that almost seems forgotten after a big malt character that was surprisingly soft.

I loved this and thought it had just the right malt presence for a tremendous hop character that even showed off the herbal aspects of the hops as gently as possible alongside a terrific amount of fruit.

Bottled 10/2/13.

Appearance: Golden honey with a bit of haze. Off-white cap of suds.

Aroma: Bread with bright citrus.

Taste: Starts with a rush of earthy bitterness that's not quite as harsh as the 70 IBUs would imply. I expected the hop character to be very juicy and citrusy but it's much more earthy with some pine. The malt undertone throughout each sip is toasty and balances well with the hops. The finish is a little weak/watery and the aftertaste is mostly gritty hop bitterness. I'd call this one a little lacking in flavor for 7.6% ABV even though there is some alcohol on the back end.

Mouthfeel: About medium in body and never feels thick or heavy. Average carbonation and good drinkability.

Final Thoughts: So not the best wet-hop beer out there but worth a try fresh. Unfortunately the citrus in the aroma didn't manifest in the flavor. It's hard to knock a beer when it doesn't have any noticeable flaws but this one just didn't do it for me. At least it was reasonably priced. Would I drink it again? Maybe.

bottle into a FW tulip. 10/2/13 bottling date

Pours a crisp golden color with a slight half inch white head. Light aroma...fruity and hoppy and malty too..."crisp" fits the smell as well as the pour honestly. The taste is very juicy and of course hoppy...the freshness is real apparent here. Slight sweet fruit flavor as well, very easy drinking. Lighter side of medium bodied with mild carbonation. Drinkability is extremely high and is this beers best asset.

Overall a damn good wet hop ale. Recommended to be drank asap!

From a 4 pack bottled 10/2, so around three weeks old.

Pours a honey orange, clear, finger of head. Good lacing.

Smell is light citrus, hop resin, leafy greens, grapefruit, citrus peel, a wee bit of a musty smell (interesting). Tangerine, not much malt.

Taste is very interesting, green grassy hops, really bitter grapefruit, huge underlying bready malt, nice orange, and musty melon.

Mouthfeel is where this beer excels IMO, it is slick, prickly, wet and I can not stress that enough... Most IPAs dry you out which is fine and I enjoy it, but this beer just does not at all, it is medium full bodied.

Really love the Mouthfeel on this beer, For me the flavor and smell is to close to a dry hopped IPA.... I do not get the super fresh smell I expect from my wet hop beers. Still a great beer though. Give it a shot!
