Bottled 9/30/15 and poured 10/30/15. $4 single. For some reason I was thinking this beer was only a couple weeks old -- I forgot it's already almost December. Whoops. Oh well, one month old on the dot. Been wanting to try this one for a few years but I was never aggressively looking for it and always missed out on it... glad to finally give it a whirl.

Appearance: Beautiful. Golden color with maybe a super slight hop haze to it, though it appears to be filtered. There's a small head on top, with quite a bit of lacing sticking to the glass. Active carbonation coming from the bottom of my etched Sam Adams Perfect Pint. Just about everything I look for in an IPA ... really gorgeous.

Smell: Smells like fresh, raw hops. Oily, resinous, dank, sticky, leafy. It's a little piney with some citrus as well. Wouldn't at all say this beer has a tropical nose. There's a nice sweet malty note in the aroma as well so it really actually smells quite balanced. Juicy, bright, hoppy, fresh... fantastic.

Taste/feel: Hits my tongue with a bittersweet flavor that's surprisingly really balanced. I was expecting a super bitter hop-forward, palate smacking beer, but this isn't really like that. Hops are definitely pretty raw, as the beer has a distinct hop bitterness to it, but the malt sweetness is prevalent and really great. The hop flavor is much like the smell -- everything but the tropical fruits. Really, again, a pretty balanced beer. It reminds me quite a bit of an IPA or two or three I've had before, but I can't pinpoint them. Something about this beer's pungently fresh hop flavor on the finish is quite unique to me though. The distant aftertaste after a sip is decidedly very dry and bitter. I was going to say this beer tastes a bit more like a double IPA to me, but that sharp, biting hop bitterness changes that opinion for me. The feel is light-medium -- I wouldn't really say light, but it's lighter than it is heavy, for sure. The carbonation is quite prickly up front, but seems to mellow out quickly through the sip.

Harvest Ale is a fabulous beer. In a season littered with brown ales, pumpkin ales, and stouts, this is one of the best Autumnal IPAs out there, and really, one of the better IPAs period. The intense hop presence of this beer is stressed quite a bit by Founders, and it's really no joke. I think this beer would appeal to even some of those who don't like super bitter IPAs because there may be enough of a malt balance to pull people in. Make no mistake though, this is a hop-head's beer. As a final note, I'll say that I've found that as it warms a bit, Harvest Ale develops a bit of an off-putting bitterness ... to me, it comes off as almost metallic. It's not beer ruining at all, but it's there almost every sip, and is pretty unrelenting. I'm guessing this has something to do with the wet-hopping, but I'm not certain. Still a great beer, but I'm bumping my overall rating down from a 4.25 to a 4.

12oz bottle. 9/30/15 bottle date (30 days old). Appearance: Beautiful clear golden with moderate white head and nice lacing. Aroma: Lemony, grassy, resinous hop aroma. Touch of pineapple. No malt aroma. Taste: Light malt sweetness with a strong hop bitterness and fresh resinous, grassy hop flavors. Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate to high carbonation. Finish: lingering resinous and grassy hop bitterness Overall: Pretty similar to other fresh hop ales with a dominant resinous and grassy hop flavor. Aroma on this version tends to have stronger citrus ch

12 oz. bottle into a New Belgium snifter. Light golden on the pour and settles into a very clear gold in the glass. About 1 finger of white, sticky foam on top. Pine, citrus, grapefruit, mango, and pineapple on the nose. If I were a more experienced beer drinker, I feel like I could tell this beer was wet hopped by the aroma. Lots of dank hops and pine on the taste with mild notes of tropical fruit. Fairly consistent all the way through and leaves with a smooth finish. A very easy-drinking 7%+ beer. I get a bit of bready malt on the aftertaste. The feel of this beer threw me off a little - much lighter than I would've thought, and not in a good way. I felt like it lacked a full body, and instead, was pretty watery. Good tasting, none the less.

pours a light orange almost dark yellow with a thick white head.

has a very pleasing sweet fruity pine aroma. not too much of any one smell but a great balance.

taste is softly sweet with a nice bitter pine finish. sweet like pineapple but not overly sweet. great balance to it.

goes down very easy, would not expect this to be 7.6%.

one thing i would say about this beer is balance. not overly bitter, sweet, or piney. it has a fantastic balance of everything i like about IPAs. wish this wasn't $15.99 a 4 pack but its a great beer.

Golden yellow in color with a heavy haze. Poured with a thick, soapy, white foam with excellent retention. Medium hop aromas of fresh citrus with earthy resinous undertones. No esters or boozy notes. Medium malt aromas. Medium bodied with a creamy smooth feel and medium light, soft carbonation. Pleasant, mellow warmth in the feel near the finish. Medium high hop flavors of citrus orange and lemon zest with earthy undertones similar to aroma. Medium high hop bitterness through the middle that transitioned to crisp piney hop bitterness at the end. Finished dryly with lingering, bitter, pine hoppiness. Very fresh aromas and flavors with a smooth, lager-like feel. Malt and hop aromas are fairly even, however the balance tips to the hoppy side for the flavor. Very refreshing and easy drinking.

L: Pours a clear golden with a persistent white head. Good lacing.

S: Pine, apricot and fresh grass dominate a malty underbelly.

T: Big hop taste of floral, pine and mild citrus with a mild grassy tone. Moderate bitterness. Nice light caramel notes. Finishes semi dry.

F: Medium body, almost a velvety mouthfeel. medium carbonation.

O: This is a great IPA. Bitterness is just right with a decent bite and perfectly balanced with a complex hop nose. Malt is supportive but allows the hops to shine. The hops are a fresh balance pf piny, floral and a wee bit of an earthiness. A great IPA that I can drink a lot of.

The beer has a hazy orange color. The aroma is citrus and sweet malt, similar to Jai Alai. The taste a bit different with high bitterness and big pine flavor.

Got the last 2 bottles available at "crafted drafts" in Columbus, oh. I'm a fan, beers head wasn't 2 fingers as advertised, perhaps because I got bottles later than most, still tasted super fresh and retained a ton of flavor to last drop, pine noticeable and perfect mix of bitter and enjoyable, founders doesn't disappoint with this ipa!

12 oz bottle created on 10/1/15 poured into an IPA glass.

A - Two finger, creamy head that retains well. Crystal clear gold, with active carbonation visible.

S - Fresh hops indeed. Heavy pine, grass.

T - Front end pine, citrus, and some light toasted grain/malt presence.

M - Carbonation medium low, slightly creamy, bitterness is a factor.

O - A very tasty wet hop IPA, and I am glad to come across some this year before it disappeared.

10oz snifter at THG.

A: Pours a clear golden with a thin and fuzzy white head that faded to a lasting collar. Sheets of lace were left down the glass.
S: Fresh hop-forward nose of citrus, mild pine, and earthy hops.
T: I get flavors of melon and citrus up front followed by slight caramel and biscuit malt notes in the finish. The finish is slightly toasted and sticky, with a mild almost candy-like sweetness. Melons and golden fruit linger in the aftertaste. I get faint hints of light bubble gum, mint and herbal hops as well.
M: Medium body, lingering sweetness, low smooth and creamy carbonation, clean mouthfeel with a lingering stickiness. Lasting bitterness and minty green flavors.
O: Clean and flavorful. A bit sweet, and not a huge nose, but definitely delicious and easy to drink.

First wet hopped beer of the season, and I loved it. Smell is fantastic - fruity, hoppy, light malt. Hops shine but don't overpower, isn't bitter or overly piney. Great harvest ale.

Pale straw-amber, moderate carbonation. 2 fingers slightly off-white creamy head. Fades slowly, clingy lacing. Aroma hits when the glass is still 6 inches away. Wonderful aroma. Citrus & fruit. Substantial mouth feel for the style. Mild initial taste with no bittering evident. Juicy/fruity in the middle. Nicely bitter and clean finish, but not nearly the bitterness you would expect for the 70 IBU rating. This is a very good fresh hop ale.

awesome beer, it really is, had it in line with a bunch of other really tasty wet hop beers. been looking to try this one for a long time, so nice to finally get the chance in minnesota, but in some ways it didnt live up to the hype i built around it in my head. its just another good wet hop beer, nothing memorable about it for me. i like all the body, it gives the hops resins and all something to cling on to, and it seems to last a lot longer than a lot of these do, meaning i taste it for days, but it isnt sweet, and it keeps evolving. the hops though dont seem that distinct or that pungent, aside from being wet of course and retaining all that makes them holy. none of the red pepper thing either, that has been seemingly real common this year. i get notes of pear and pine, fruity and spicy at the same time, rich in a way, but still scary drinkable for what it is. it doesnt scream fall to me though, maybe some rye malt or something would give it more depth, maybe a kiss of red malt might give it that vibe. i like it a whole lot, but its not as good as i thought it would be, not that it blends into the crowd or anything, but in some ways i would rather drink a centennial ipa or something from these guys, it doesnt stand out the way i expected it to, despite its wonderfully high quality.

This beer pour a rich gold. The aromas are subtle but enticing - a little citrus, a little pine, something almost liek sweet corn as well. The flavor leads with a citrus flavor, rounding out to pine and mango. The mouthfeel is fairly thick and rich. The balance here is so well done is is difficult to pick out individual flavors, there is just an overall impression of pure hop oil flavor.

Bottled 9/30/15

Pours light straw colored yellow. Very light coloring and lively carbonation. Almost look like a light lager. Clean and clear.

Nose is grassy and herbal. Almost has a coriander spice undertone.

Tastes is similar to the nose with its grassy hop profile. Little in the way of citrus but it's there. I don't like to use this term but it's certainly "earthy." It does have some citrus notes but they are not in your face. They rather blend nicely with the herbal. A little sweetness in the finish with sugar cookie and sugar wafer likeness. Not much in the way of bitterness but maybe a touch of it as it warms some, if you give it a chance to warm at all. It goes down very easily.

Body is very much in the light side and medium carbonation makes this a really crisp and clean beer.

It's a very well made beer and hits the fresh hop style well. But nothing really jumps out here for me. The feel makes it drinkable to say the least, but it's that more so than the taste and flavor that makes you reach for another sip. A bit pricey too. I might spring for another 4 pack but don't think this is something I'd go ape shit getting a case of like some may do for this seasonal release.

Pour golden with a full thick head that fades quickly. Smells of tangerine and grapefruit. Tastes of citrus rind and sweetness with a lingering bitter hop finish. Round and oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Reminds me a lot of Bell's Two Hearted but with more citrus. It's a good beer that I'd enjoy to have again, but as others have said, the price seems high.

Smell is juicy citrus, pine resin and bread malts. Taste is juicy hops, fresh citrus and toasted malts. Feel is medium in body and smooth in the finish.

Pours a relatively large head, with dissipates quickly. A hazy golden color, with very few rising bubbles. A majestic look.

Heavy smells of sweet citrus, especially tangerines come to mind.

An immediate hops flavor, with dominates the early-game of the flavor. As the beer lingers in my mouth, the sweet citrus flavor from the smell makes an appearance. Also noted a distinct malt present in the after-taste. Carbonation is low, with a surprisingly dry feel. Definitely has a stingy sort-of aspect to it.

Bought as a four-pack for $13. Which seemed on the steeper end for what it is. Still very enjoyable though.

Served in my trusty All Day IPA faux-mason.

A - golden, with a foamy eggshell head of more than a finger w serious staying power. Decent legs w spotty lacing.

S - Musty, briny, but green and dank. Notes of unburnt potpourri, fresh hay, and feet. Subtle citric notes keep things pleasant.

T - closely adheres to the nose. Pine needles, unripe mango, and Gorgonzola show up on the back end. Finishes fairly dry and cactus-like.

M - viscous and oily, but enough fizz to keep things interesting.

This deserves its reputation, and at a decent price point, but there are slightly better wet-hopped ales out there.

Pours clear light golden with a finger of clingy white head. Wow, the smell is great - all pine and resin. Taste is similar, with piney hop bitter and some mild malt balance, followed by clean, dry finish. Very good, though not sure about world class.

S: Floral, light sweetness, clean pine, fresh cut grass, hint of grapefruit
T: Floral, clean, balanced bitterness, light pine, grass, very light toasted malt
M: So light but not watery, with some hop oil texture
O: Best batch since they upped the abv. It still goes down so smooth though with completely hidden alcohol. I can down this like a perfectly balanced bitter juice.

Poured into IPA glass. The color is a golden yellow with a two finger bright white head and lacing. A most attractive pour. It smelled of hops, bready malt, and citrus. The taste is dry, bitter, hoppy, with tangy grapefruit and pine. This ale is nicely carbonated and refreshing to drink. The 7.6% ABV seems just right: it's a substantial ale but not boozy. Overall, it is a very pleasant and enjoyable Fall ale, although I'm not buying into all the hype over it.
