Poured into tulip glass:
A- Motor oil black body with a one-finger, frothy, mocha colored-head.
S- Roasted, smoky almost burnt-smelling malt, hints of dark chocolate, and the ever slightest hint of coffee. Smells like a good RIS.
T- The first thing I noticed was an in your face deep roasted and smoky malt followed by dark chocolate and coffee that comes mostly on the finish. The big malt dominates. Quite bitter for a stout. Bitterness is lingering in the back of the throat. Get a little bit of the alcohol, but not at all overpowering.
M- Big thick heavy body with an oily feel that coats the mouth and throat with each swallow. A big beer like this needs body and it has plenty.
O- This is a very good take on a RIS. If the smokiness in the malt was toned down, I would like it better. Nonetheless this keeps the streak alive of never having a Founders beer that sucked.
