The beer poured a dark, almost black and produced a reddish brown creamy head, which leaves nice lacing after dissipating.
The smell is chocolate, coffee and plum.
Tasting the beer, chocolate ad coffee notes are certainly dominant up front. than the roasted malt flavors give the beer a smokey feel in the middle. In the end some hop character is noticable.
The almost syrup like beer is extremely drinkable. What a great brew this is. The ABV of 10.5 is well hidden. Certainly one of my favorite Stouts.

(Update: Same bottle date, 12/6/12, aged 13 months.

The beer pours extremely dark and thick, with floaties on the bottom.

The beer punches first of fudgey chocolate, rich rich cocoa chocolate. Almost like a gourmet hot chocolate. Deep roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate, dark cherry, a bit of umami.

The flavor follows with a fudgey chocolate and deeply roasted coffee in the front, then onto some umami, a rounded flavor of dark cherry. There's roasted malt and coffee throughout. The hops still come through giving still a woody hop bitterness on the finish and on and on.

Having had a vertical of '11, '12, and the most recent batch ('13/'14). Some people preferred the balance of bitterness in the '12. I prefer '11 as the hops have fallen through and it creates a luscious stout.

Age this! Enjoy!)

Bottle on neck says the beer was bottled on 12/6/12.

The color is a pitch black stout color with a chocolate brown half finger head. The head lingers, good amount of lacing on the glass. Beautiful color on the head.

The aroma has roasted malt, coffee, and deep rich chocolate fudge. It’s a very delicious chocolate aroma. There’s a bit of dark fruit in there.

The flavor is deep and rich. The first hit is just of dark roasted espresso, which leaves an aftertaste that salivates the mouth and asking for more. There’s also a dark bitter chocolate. However, the big flavor is that bitter espresso or French roasted coffee. It’s quite smokey at times. It’s almost like charcoal and ashy with how deep and burnt the flavor is. For some, this would be too roasted, smokey, or almost burnt.

As the beer warms up, you get some deep rich dark fruits like cherries or raisins.

The mouthfeel is just luscious and viscous, almost like drinking hot chocolate. It’s very creamy and the alcohol does not come through at all.

This is quite an exceptional beer, but for those who are interested in deep dark flavors. The bitterness in this does not let up.

12oz bottle into goblet glass

A: Chocolate syrup, motor oil, viscous mean obsidian brew that is black as night. Bit of a mean pour brings out a two finger head, the off color of rose gold. A frothy appearance, looks like it has some carbonation based on the head that formed, foam fingers grip the curvature of the glass as the head begins to recede.

S: Rich, deep, burnt coffee, strong roasted/burnt malt, light caramel possibly playing up some sweet toffee. Notes of dark muddled fruits cherry and prune, fig or fig leaves - nose is dominated by dark dark chocolate

T: Blasted up front with bitter burnt malt and burnt coffee. The initial palate is almost dry ushering in a baker’s chocolate tang that is rather piercing. A roasted profile prevails in the middle mouth, where the experience gains a slight sweetness that takes the edge off the burnt character. Burnt/smoky presentation is really astringent; however this enables a sweeter caramel, toffee, and chocolate undertone to balance the flavor. Not noticing a traditional hop presence, slightly warming though not boozy. Big time chocolate malt bomb that has a bitter-sweet duality

M: Full body, viscous as hell, with sharp dryness that embosses itself on the palate - The aftertaste is akin to letting fine chocolate melt on the tongue - Thick, creamy, and powerful – low to no carbonation.

O: Damn this is good. Drinks a lot like TenFidy (one of my favorites). Rich, creamy flavor with a superior malt and chocolate punch - Fantastic mouthfeel really pulls the whole experience together - a delightful sipper, superb flavor, an excellent overall experience.

It was presented to me black with about a finger of brown head. Smelling it, I get a lot of roasted grains with chocolate, charred wood with a hint of smoke, some coffee, and a slight hop aroma. The taste is much more chocolate-forward. It has a dark chocolate and cocoa powder profile carrying a vein of caramel, with a creamy, full mouthfeel throughout. It finishes with a roasty burnt oat taste with a manageable level of astringency.
