Appearance is super deep jet black. The head forms late going through the Guiness effect. the color is a deep mocha which lightens as it fades, and leaves some fine lacing about the glass.
Aroma is quite pungent having a deep roasted malt and barley smell, border line burnt. other aroma include chocolate, molasses coffee and light anise.
Drinks smooth and soft on the palette with only a slight hint of ashen grittiness. Flavors of roasted malts, coffee, molasses and chocolate just like the nose.
Towards the end there is alcohol warming and hints of licorise and seem to numb the tongue.
There's a reason this brew is on the beer of fame. Definitly top 5 in the Imp stout catagory.
