Bottled 12/18/13

This Imperial Stout forms a viscous ribbon from the bottle to the glass. Pitch black with about a finger of chocolate milk colored head.

Huge roasted character in the nose. Roasted barley, semisweet chocolate, smoke, piney hop notes, and some booze.

Roasted grain is more prevalent in flavor, chocolate flavors have subsided into bitterness, smokey, dark ripe berry flavors, pungent pine flavor and bit hit of bitterness.

Feel is nearly perfect. Big, chewy, sticky.

Pretty good fresh but I'll look forward to this beer with some age on it.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter.

A-Pitch black like almost every imp. stout. Deep brown, toffee colored half finger head with good retention. Leaves lacing on the sides of the glass and looks thick as hell.

S-Bitter baker's chocolate, figs, raisins, clove?, burnt oak, burnt sweet bread

T-Front of the palate is hit by the bitter chocolate and is phased out quickly by the sweet, dark fruits. That fades nicely into the burnt oaky taste and finishes again with a semi-sweet and burnt flavor with a spiced bite from the alcohol that lingers for a while and fades back into the overpowering oaky flavor. A heck of a lot of depth

MF-Creamy like syrup. Probably the best mouthfeel on a beer I've ever had. Absolute perfection.

O-It's Founders and the beer is heralded. What is there to say? My expectations were high and they were met.

Being one of the greatest breweries on Earth, Founders had to produce a superlative RIS. Well, duh.... This is sweet! It is tasty, and an excellent rendittion of one of beerdoms most beloved styles.

The initial pour consists of a massive explosion of cream-colored froth that caps a forebording body of tar, which is totally impervious to light. This impressive head subsides into a thin layer of lace with a raspberry tint.

The nose is deliciously inviting: there is an intense chocolate blast that makes one think of a bag of melted Hershey Kisses - or a "basket of kisses" to Mad Men afficiandos, but that is for another website.

As you sip it, there is a subtle chalky mouthfeel; this makes for a rather dry texture on the palate. Yet, it is semi-sweet and inviting.

Damn! This is a f... great RIS. If you are a true fan of Russian Imperial Stouts, then you must try it. The litany of greatness is clear here: Old Rasputin, Storm King and (now) Founder's Imperial Stout. Drink it or die.
