Tasted 20 July 2013. Reviewed from notes.
Pours a nice deep pink with brownish shades behind it. Clear, with half-finger of pinkish-white head. Okay retention and lacing.
Smell is a balance of raspberry and malts.
Taste is similar, combining sweet caramel malts with raspberry. It's just sweet sweet sweet, with nothing to balance it. Also has a funny mouth-smacking buttery back-end.
Feel is light-bodied, kinda prickly.
A relatively weak raspberry beer, in my opinion. Not bad, but I just find it dull, and that buttery character doesn't blend well at all with the raspberry. Lastly, the raspberry is not as potent as it is in the best fruit beers. Comes nowhere close to the quality of New Glarus's Raspberry Tart, so I'll stick to that.

12 oz. bottle with a bottled on date of June 7th, 2014. Poured into a Lindemans flute. Translucent dark ruby red with a thick, bubbly, pink head. Head slowly fades to a thin crown. Thick, sticky lacing covers nearly every part of the surface of the flute as the beer goes down.
Aroma is a raspberry jam/puree. Slight touch of pale malts and the faintest hint of wheat. Vinous flavors, almost dark cherry and grape as well.
Flavor is raspberry and a hint of wheat. Raspberry, of course, completely dominates. It starts off a touch sugary, but ends with a tart finish. I can feel a tiny bit of hoppy bitterness on the finish as well, even if I can't taste it.
Light-medium body with moderate carbonation; certainly a decent amount, but not as much as it looks like during the pour. Tart finish keeps it from being cloying and maintains a nice, crisp, refreshing mouthfeel.
This is a very good beer. I'm not sure if I'd put it up against the New Glarus Raspberry Tart, but it stands pretty well on its own. Nice balance of sweetness/tart and it's obvious it uses fresh, natural raspberries. What else should one expect from a fruit beer?
