Pours a very cool cloudy pink/red, with a bubbly white head that quickly fades.

Smell is all fruity raspberries, but not in an overly sweet way.

Taste is lots of soda-like raspberry at first, but then a good bready "beeriness" comes in to even it out. Surprisingly non-sweet, its is hugely flavorful and enjoyable.

Mouthfeel is great, good carbonation adds to the soda fruitiness.

Drinkability is fantastic, very refreshing and light on the palate.

Overall, a great beer from Founder's. This is exactly what a fruit beer should be. Tons of flavor, but with a good balance.

This is like no other beer that I have had. Its rich almost ruby red is georgous and its fresh berry smell is suprising. It is quite sweet, yet dry, with a moderatly light mouthfeel. This is not in my opinion a beer just to tip back one after another, but very very nice.

Let me start by saying that this is a style of beer that I usually do not like but.... I figured that coming from a brewery with the rep of Founders that it would be worth a try.

Ruby red color with a pink tinged head. Smell is a very appetizing raspberry. The smell is sweet but it's not the sticky sickening syrupy sweet that you get in a lot of fruit beers. Somehow the sweet smell portrays a complexity that gives you the impression that you are about to try something special.

The taste dosn't dissapoint, sweet raspberry up front followed by a tart sourness and a dry finish. Notes of cherries and some citrus zest also show themselves. I'm searching for the malt but it really never appears. Faint earthy hops finish at the very end. The dry finish is really the most surprizing part of this beer. The sweetness totally dissapears. 6.9% is completely hidden.

Simply the best fruit beer I've ever had. I've finished this one off without any trouble when it would normally be a struggle. This is what this style should be and a great example of what a quality brewer can do.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Flying Dog goblet (couldn't read the bottling date)

A: Deep purple, amethyst color. Slight lacing.

S: Sweet and tart. Lots of raspberry. There is even a bit of funk/yeast in there.

T: Quite sweet and not very tart. This could use a slight balance of those two notes, less sweet and more tart. It tastes a bit like soda. Lots of raspberry comes through, which is rare. Most fruit beers don't have the fruit flavor as prominent. I feel that the sign of a good fruit beer is the prominence of the fruit.

M: Slick but still prickly. Good feeling here with less carb then kombucha.

O: I could drink this all day (or summer). I hope Founders comes to MD by next summer because I would love to have better access to this.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass. Bottled in June of 2013.

Appearance: Pours a deep brownish amber red with a lot of bubbles. Solid two fingers of light pinkish head with decent retention. Leaves a good amount of lacing around the glass.

Smell: A very fruity, juicy, and fairly tart aroma with lots of raspberries and some bready malt. Big aroma of fresh raspberry fruits all over that smell fairly sweet and tart and slightly sour. Also some subtle fruit hints of cherry and cranberry. Soft bready malts with hints of grains, biscuit, caramel, toffee, and yeast. A very nice juicy aroma that is big on the raspberries.

Taste: Like its smells, a very juicy fruit driven aroma with lots of sweet and tart raspberries and some malt. Big taste of raspberries throughout along with some other fruit notes of cherry and cranberry. Fruits are fairly sweet, tart, and somewhat sour. Very jammy. Soft bready malt background with notes of grains, biscuit, yeast, caramel, and toffee. Raspberries dominate. A very good fruit beer taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Very crisp, clean, juicy, and jammy. Sweet but not overly syrupy. Very smooth.

Overall: A very good berry filled fruit beer. Great fresh raspberry juice flavor with a nice subtle malt backing. Simple but very good.

Freaky, almost magenta in appearance, Founder's Rübæus comes out of the bottle into my chalice bubbly as all get out. Gigantic, whooshing 'champaign' foam that meringues but settles like a toddler after his ritalin. Smallish white head with flares of lace. Great presentation...par for the course from Founders.

Nose is raspberries in syrup; just really lovely and amazingly un-beery...a compliment, a put-down, and an invitation to beer advocacy all in one. Slight whiffs of sweettarts.

Intense fruit follows on the palate. Marachino cherries in syrup. Overripe red grapes. Childhood flashbacks to Sparkling Grape juice on New Year's.

Not really that drinkable, but remarkable and 'must-try' in all regards.

On tap at brewpub. I'm not a fan of fruit beers, and have found peach and blueberry brews acceptable---not not repeatable. However, this dark pink brew had an exceptional rasberry smell and taste, with the necessary malt and hops, to make it a beer and not a soda pop! I will buy again.

A: Pours a clear cranberry red with a frothy one-finger head that subsides to a frothy rnig around the glass. Specks of lacing.

S: Sweet-smelling aromas of raspberries and pomegranate

T: Sweet and tart with just the right amount of raspberry flavor.

M: Light-medium in body with a puckering mouthfeel, yet not to the extreme as somethinglike Lindeman's. The carbonation is much less than most fruit beers, giving this one a much smoother texture.

D: Not very "beery" (to use a much disliked term), but this beer is what it is. A very good fruit beer. If you're into that sort of thing, go get some, and you won't be disappointed.

A 12oz bottle dated 5.23.14

A - Ruby red, 1 finger of head and nice sticky lace left on the glass

S - Raspberries and lots of them! No booze, just raspberries...thats all!

T - Wow...its a spiked raspberry juice! So good! Apples and raspberries, alcohol is well hidden. An awesome brew.

M - Medium carbonation and light bodied.

O - A great beer. Just wish it was not so expensive, or this one would be a regular.

This one pours out to a red color in the glass with an almost, exploding-like head. It took two pours, with the first one requiring a few minutes for it to settle. The appearance of this beer was incredible. I mean, come on, its red beer with a slightly red head. That alone was pretty entertaining for me. The aroma is nice with fruit obviously coming to the forefront. The taste starts off with a berry tartness that I was afraid was going to continue through the swallow, but actually mellows out with the tartness giving way to a nice sweetness that is not overdone or cloying, but nicely balanced.

Usually I don't care for fruit beers. This one is an exeception. Its an excellent beer.

Founders Rubaeus pours to a ruby color and a good pour produces a pink head of foam that artistically adorns its see- through body. The nose on this beer is one of raspberries with a touch of sourness in the background. The foam holds its own at first, but does subside in a couple of minutes, leaving just a small amount of lacing behind as you drink.

This beer offers the taste of raspberries, as expected, along with flavors of bready malts to keep it tasting like a beer should. The flavor bounces back and forth between sweet and tart with each sip, ending with an aftertaste of berries and bread, like a piece of raspberry pie. The beer is a little fuller than most summer brews, with a medium body overall.

This fruit- enhanced beer is not like other fruity brews and it outranks most of the competition. The most important reason why is because, in spite of its fruitiness, it still tastes like real beer. You can still taste the different bready, lightly toasted malts in the background- a subtle but very important reminder that the beverage in front of you is a beer, not a malt cooler. Then, there is the raspberry flavor itself. Founders doesn’t cheapen the experience with artificial flavoring, like some other breweries are known to do. It uses real raspberries at different stages during the fermentation process to enhance the flavor and lead to a fruit flavor that is natural and delicious.

I’m not usually a fan of most fruity beers for the reasons mentioned above, but Founders Rubaeus is easily one of the better raspberry beers on the market. It is nicely balanced between sweet and tart and the addition of natural raspberries- as well as true beer taste- keep it real and help it rank well above the average fruity brew.

Really nice summer fruit beer. Raspberries really sing in this one and the overall palate is very nice. For those Founder's fans out there who haven't already tried it... mix 1/2 Rubaeus with 1/2 KBS... That scores 5/5 all the way across for me.

As it is, I really enjoyed this beer for the category it is going for. Founder's knocks another one out of the park IMHO.

Cold from the bottle to a dogfish head signature glass, deep raspberry pink with a wisp of a short lasting white head.

Aroma of - well - of raspberries. Super ripe raspberries or a super sweet raspberry reduction. This beer is raspberries !

Medium bodied, medium carbonation, nice sweet and sour balance, with a dry finish.

Drinkable on this hot day out on the porch
