Pours a brilliant hazy ruby; smells of raspberry (duh) jelly donuts. The initial taste is an explosion of natural raspberries - very little to no cloying syrupy sweetness here. Finishes with some light breadiness, really drinks like a raspberry danish or some other fruity confectionary. Taste lingers well after drinking but does not overstay its welcome.

This is a fruit beer done correctly. Great summer beer. (413 characters)

L: Bright red, exactly what I would expect from this one.
S: Sweet raspberries.
T: Big raspberries, the sweetness and tartness go hand and hand. Another very well made beer by Founders. I only dock, because it's just not my style.
F: A lot of carbonation, but it fits the bill perfectly for this one. Obviously thin given it's a fruit beer.
O: Summer time fruit beer. It has it's place about once a year for me. (414 characters)

12oz bottle into a tulip.

A: Pours a remarkable, clear, deep pink/red much akin to a rose wine. 1/2" fizzy white head that recedes very quickly. Not very much retention. No lacing.

S: Sweetish raspberry, hints of tartness, an overall juicy characteristic on the nose.

T: Very natural semi-sweet raspberry notes lead in. Mid palate features a bit more a of saccharine quality with just a faint hint of malt underneath. Finish is sharp & short.

M: Moderate carb & just enough body to remind you that you're drinking a beer. Quite refreshing.

O: Very enjoyable, not artificial tasting at all. (605 characters)

A deep dark pink color with light head and decreasing light lacing. A valid effort at Abita's Purple Haze flavor with a touch of alcohol.
I enjoyed this refreshing summer change of pace in a 16 oz pint glass poured from the tap. (228 characters)

Pours strawberry red with small head and minimal lacing. Smell is earthy herbal raspberries. The fruit flavor in the beer taste very real. You don't get that medicine taste that I've had with other fruit beers I've tried. It's a fresh raspberry with fruit herbal tea flavor and a malty backbone. Very tasty for a fruit beer but I must admit I'm not a fan of the style. (369 characters)

A beautiful and rich dark pink hue, with an intense raspberry aroma. Very refreshing flavor, with a bit of a tartness to it. A really solid fruit beer. (153 characters)

Picked up a single from TW Arrowhead on May 1st for $3.49. Bottled on 3/12/2015.

Beer poured reddish-pink with a thin white head that dissipated quickly.

Nose is the traditional wheat/malt raspberry ale, very pleasant.

Taste is very sweet but not cloyingly so...yet. It is a refreshing brew.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied which i believe is the intent of the brewer.

Overall this is a pretty good brew, nice and refreshing. Definitely a chick brew for those sweaty July and August days. This was nice to try but likely will not purchase again. (558 characters)

It's a summer beer. I always drink straight from the bottle. No idea what it looks like.

Aroma is all raspberry. Just got finished picking red raspberries and the aroma isn't artificial or medicinal.

Taste: red raspberries. Nailed it.

Nice carbonated mouthfeel, ,appropriate for a fruit beer.

Overall, nice summertime beer. (332 characters)

Lots of cloying sweet. I actually had blushing monk a couple months before this one. It is tasty but heavy on the fruit-sweet. One is more than enough (150 characters)

While this was a great looking beer, a deep pinkish red, the smell was a bit medicinal and the taste was sickly sweet and tasted artificial. I couldn't take more than two sips of this beer. To each their own but this beer was not for me. (239 characters)

Rubaeus pours a reddish color with a small pink lacing head. There is a raspberry aroma with hints of a crisp malt. The taste is much the same, nice malty backbone, with big hint of raspberry, which isn't too sweet or overpowering. Overall its a beer flavored beer with some noticeable flavors of raspberry. (310 characters)

I've had this every year for the past 3 years but just now have had a chance to review it.

A - Dark amber, red color, like a raspberry soda. Smaller, pink head with good lacing. More soda like than beer with the pink hue but still appetizing.

S - Raspberry ale; imagine that! It's got a fresh raspberry note that is fruity with just a little bit of floral aroma and a hint of sweet malt.

T - Pretty soft on the palate with the sweet raspberry character holding strong. It doesn't have a chemical or overpowering fruit flavor as some tend to have but it is almost syrupy. In the middle the ale character shifts to the top with a sweet grainy, malt character accompanied by the ale yeast tones. The finish is light and still fruity.

M - Light mouth-feel. Moderate carbonation. Light body makes this beer a refreshing beverage. I do think that either my palate or the batch is different but this beer is much sweeter and more soda-like than I remembered from last year.

Overall, this is still a very good summer brew but on the sweet side. This beer used to be the perfect example of a fruit beer but now I feel it is moving towards the sweeter and more commercial beer genre. I would still recommend this for a nice mix-up from the typical beer styles but at $12 a 4pk I probably won't get this more than once a year.

Founders Rübæus - Founders Brewing Company. Poured from the bottle into a glass, this brew's head is 1/16th of a finger thick, with scant lacing, and a dark red body,as protocol for a raspberry brew .

Smells like, yep raspberries, but one can still detect a a slight malt backbone.

I taste raspberries, along with earthy grains.

Mouthfeel here is smooth and clean.

Overall, I'll give Founders Rübæus - Founders Brewing Company a 4.5 (478 characters)

Poured burgundy color with ½ inch of quickly disappointing head.

Aroma yields exactly what the beer states: raspberry! I also get a blackberry tartness and sweet jam or candy like quality.

The beer tastes quite watery. It is non-descript rather than having a desired crisp raspberry bite. It is rather incongruent with the aroma. One would think that the taste would be much more aggressive, yet the taste is actually very subdued. At the end is a medicinal quality that is not appealing. The raspberry flavor is present, but it isn’t impressive. It almost reminds me of Kool-aide

Overall the beer isn’t all that good. The aroma is fantastic, but the beer itself lacks overall. It lacked the intensity and sourness sought after in a style like this (definitely one boasting raspberries!). This beer would pair well with grilled lamb chops with a cherry and balsamic reduction sauce. It gets a 71/100. (912 characters)

Really good but the balance was a little off. There was a weird boozy flavor on the backend that needs to even out after some aging. Otherwise this was still really tasty. (171 characters)

Pours a deep garnet red color with the aroma of raspberries. The taste is raspberry forward but the finish is medicine-y and only grows stronger as it warms up. Overall ok. (172 characters)

I'm not at all a fan of fruit, lambic and sour beers, but this one seemed to pull elements from lambics, Belgian sours and fruits just right to make it not a bad drink. All in all, it's decent. (193 characters)

Did not do anything for me. Too sweet for my liking, though I did not find it to be an offensively bad beer. I knew what to expect going in, so at least there were no surprises. (177 characters)

Bottling date of 05/23/14

Appearance - Pours a murky auburn brown with a thin head that quickly dissipates, leaving a near barren surface.

Smell - Raspberry aroma with a touch of chocolate.

Taste - Raspberries are the name of the game here, with raspberry sweetness up front and a light malted chocolate undertone. Berry tartness breaks through mid-taste, then peaks in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with low to fair carbonation. Sticky texture. Crisp, semi-dry finish.

Overall - Pretty good. Seems to have held up fine with a year of age on it. Not much "Beer" character, but makes for a nice dessert option. (624 characters)

Look: Bright ruby with a couple fingers of pinkish-white head that settles quickly into a foam
Smell: mmm...raspberry
Taste: mmm... raspberry. Nice balance of sweetness and tartness. Not much hops to speak of.
Feel: Light-medium body, nicely carbonated

Overall: If you like raspberries and beer, it's hard to imagine you'll dislike this one. Very flavorful with great balance. Despite the relatively low ABV I wouldn't want to have more than one at a time due to the intensity of flavor. (492 characters)

A summer offering from a good brewery.
ABV: 5.7%
Glassware: chalice

Smell: Raspberries!

Appearance: Opaque raspberry red with a very thin head that diminishes quickly. Active carbonation in the body.

Taste: Raspberry! The raspberry taste is very effectively supported by the malts. Near perfect balance between sweet and tart.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth. No aftertaste. Feels like a soda on the tongue.

Overall: The very best of the fruit beers I've tried. Better than most of all the beers I've tried. Best on warm days. Goes very well with steak and venison. Beautiful beer. (581 characters)

Probably my wife's favorite beer - which will ultimately mean it is too sweet for me.

This pours a solid fuchsia color but is a bit cloudy. Smells of raspberries and more raspberries.

The carbonation dissipates really fast and it is almost like drinking a barley wine. It is smooth and creamy and the taste is of sweet raspberry. It is a sweeter beer but if raspberry is what your after this should be your choice. (419 characters)

12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. Pours a clear pink/red with virtually no head. Looks like cherry or raspberry juice you'd buy your kid. Straight raspberries on the nose. Maybe a little spice and booze in there, too. Medium weight, clean yet dry mouthfeel. Raspberries dominate any and all other ingredients in this beer. Has a bit of a champaign-like drinkability to it, only with a heavier body. Finishes tart and dry. Residual sweetness on the aftertaste.

This is an okay beer if you're a fruit beer fan. I liked Blushing Monk better than this, probably because of the higher abv (for what it's worth, Blushing Monk is pretty much just an "imperial" version of this beer). (676 characters)

Oh this beer lives up to its label. When poured it is a bright red color and smells like raspberries. It is a really sweet beer so I can't see having too many in one sitting but it is very refreshing. Overall a great beer and would be great a bbq or sitting by the pool. (270 characters)
