From 07/18/13 notes. Picked up a bottle of this in Narberth, PA at whatever the name of that new bottle shop by the train station is. 12 oz. bottle poured int a snifter.

a - Pours a deep, pink-purple color with one inch of bright white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells a bit metallic, and of very sweet raspberries, raspberry juice, fruity malts, lightly sour dark fruits, and some spice. Very sweet, metallic nose downgrades it to me. Kind of reminds me of that metallic nose and taste you get in something like Sam Adams Cheery Wheat.

t - Taste is much better than the nose. Tastes of sweet raspberry juice, sweet raspberries and dark fruit malts, sugar, spice, and bread. Taste is good but very sweet, keeping it from being great. Like raspberry juice.

m - Light to medium body and low to moderate carbonation. Sugary and sweet, otherwise pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall a decent beer, with a good taste, but the nose is a miss for me. Super sweet so won't be for everyone, but if you like swete fruity beers, you'll probably like this one. I'd suggest trying to get some New Glarus Raspberry Tart instead, but worth checking out.

Pours pinkish red with a thin pink head that becomes a white creamy cover leaving some trailing lace sliding down the glass.

The smell is of raspberries - real - not "artificial syrup" as many Am. fruit beers have. There is a tartness/sourness, caramelish maltiness and a touch of earthy bitterness. It smells like a nice beer with fresh raspberries.

The taste is of raspberries - again, real - not the artificial syrup-like fruitiness - with light tart/sour and a bitterish dryness in the finish. There's a slight alcohol warmth.

It is on the fuller side of light-bodied. The carbonation is light to begin with but hits towards mild/moderate as it progresses.

It's no "lambic", IMO, but better than the typical syrupy American fruit wheat beers. It comes in a four-pack at the same price as six-packs of other styles from this brewery. While it didn't particularly excite me, it's nice that it held it's true fruitiness.

Pink head. Color is a dark raspberry purple/pink.

Flavor is dominated by raspberries. Very fruity. A little tart. Very fresh. Some malts show, but not a lot. No hops show. No alcohol.

Mouthfeel: Tart. Light bodied. Decent amount of carbonation. Very clean.

Overall, an enjoyable raspberry beer. Easy to drink. I wouldn't want more than a bottle however, because it is kind of sweet.

12oz bottle into a snifter. The brew appears a brilliant clear ruby color with a pink stained frothy head a finger strong. It fades slowly leaving strings of patchy lacework. A swirl effortlessly revives a finger back to the surface.

The aroma is jam-like with fresh raspberry juice and a bit of earthen seedy aspect. When swirled it displays a mild amount of cheese and sulfur with a bready grain element that transitions to more of a green yeastiness.

The flavor is sweet with a taste of cereal grains, bread, biscuit, wheat and plenty of natural raspberry flavoring. The fruity element is caught somewhere between sugar-free candy and luden's cough drops. The aftertaste has more of that previously mentioned earthen to pit or seeded raspberry character somewhat grassy even and mildly medicinal to mineral-like.

This is a light bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation that is very easy drinking. As far as fruit beers go, this is a pretty solid offering. An abundance of fruit and enough of a wheat grain base to remind you this is beer. As it warms up, a slight tingle of that 5.7% starts to show itself. Admittedly, I purchased a 4-pack of this hoping it was an overloaded fruity concoction that my wife would enjoy. Unfortunately, it is no New Glarus raspberry tart but it isnt bad either.

A - ruby with a short, fizzy, pink head that has decent retention

S - tart raspberries, some faint malt, a creamy note similar to cool whip

T - mildly tart, big raspberries, a bit sugary, creamy similar to the nose, faint malt in the finish

M - medium bodied, a tad sticky, crisp but not over carbonated

This is one of the better fruit beers I have ever had. It's full flavored without being overpowering or cloying. It has depth of flavor but showcases the raspberries perfectly. For an fruit beer fan, raspberry fan, or simply someone who likes a well crafted beer, this is definitely one that is worth checking out.

The beer pours a ruby red color with a thick frothy pink head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a wonderful raspberry scent that is geniune, not derived from extract. The taste is great. It has a very smooth, raspberry flavor that goes down easy and finishes fruity and tart. It does have a dry, earthiness in the finish as well. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium/full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a real treat. Raspberry is my favorite fruit to brew with. This beer is a fine example of a brewery not selling out with fake extracts and brewing with the real deal. It makes a difference.

08/07/08- Purcahsed at Chuck's Wines and Spirtis in Chagrin Falls, OH.

Presentation- 12oz bottle with no freshness info. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

Appearance- Raspberry puree in color. 1/4 inch head at most forms and quickly evaporates. No real lace traces to speak of.

Smell- Reminds me of a nice fresh raspberry field. Not to sugary in the nose.

Taste- Not like the lambic style I was thinking it would be. This one has a quick dash of sweetness followed by a very slight tartness that comes in after the swallow. This one also has a nice malt base and even some hops that jump in the mix. Raspberry flavor is very fresh.

Mouthfeel- Medium carbonation, not a huge lasting aftertaste.

Drinkability- Worth trying for sure. Don't expect Lindemann's, but it's still got enough sweetness to almost be considered a lambic. Quite good.

Unquestionably, the best aspect of this beer was its beautiful, deep, dark pink color. It arrived with no head, but instead, just a white ring around the edge of the glass. The nose was unmistakably of raspberry. The mouthfeel was light to medium with lots of raspberry flavor in the mouth. The finish was dry, but not intensely so. Jonathan let me try some of his Blushing Monk to compare, but the tart dryness was too much.

Beautiful salmon pink color, with shreds of sticky lace. Aroma is raspberries, some malty notes (biscuity), a bit of a saccharine sweet note. Flavor more orless follows, slightly tangy but overly sweet. Finishes with a bit of a fake sugar sticky feel.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

A big four finger head, creamy and soapy, how is that even possible? But there it is with a whipped up soapy pink color, settling slowly. Body is bright red, nearly purple body with some hard to see rising carbonation and nearly opaque. Very impressive.

Nose and bouquet is pure fruit. Raspberry. Jammy. Slightly sweet but not overkill. Really feels like smelling a jam jar. Very little beer like malt/hop/yeast anything coming through but I don't seem to mind.

Palate is rich, and juicy. Thick bodied but without a syrupy feel. Rich density of fruit and mild tartness with a nice balance in sweetness also. Finishes large with a good mix of malt density finally on the end. Raspberry all over, and I can't stop thinking about how jammy this beer tastes, i literally feel like spreading it on toast.

Overall just another impressive solid and fun Founders offering even if it is a bit one dimensional tasting.

12 ouncer, twist top, no freshness/brewing date info. Pours quite low carbonation , next to no head sticking around and then zip lace. Lovely raspberry nose, fresh and fruity. Fine quality fruit beer, raspberries up front, middle and through the long tasty finish. Tart/sour/sweet all going on and dancing with each other. Nice summer refresher. I'd like to try it with a fruity light dessert, would make a nice beer to do a before meal toast with, instead of champagne.

Appearance: pours a ruby red color with a 1/2" head. No lacing develops.

Smell: raspberries and some soft vanilla tones are easily detectable and enjoyable for the nose.

Taste: loads of raspberries, bits of grass, some red grape sweetness, and some soft vanilla notes. Bitterness is very mild.

Mouthfeel: very crisp throughout. Medium bodied. Aftertaste is bold but short-lived.

Drinkability: very good for the style. This is one of the best fruit beers I have had. The fruit flavor seems fresh, not the usual syrupy or fake flavors most fruit beers have.

12oz bottle into a plain pint glass. Since its going on hiatus I figured it's time to review.

A- Dirty red with dark pink edges. On top lays a off white foam with a pink addition as well. Not much retention with these bubbles. A clean looking brew on the thin side.

S- Sweet raspberry scents with a slight malty background. Very pungent and fruity. This slightly old bottle has no presense of hops.

T- A good fruit beer that focuses on raspberry flavor with malts backing that. The fruit comes through pretty harsh with some bitterness at the end, ever so slight. Any tartness is low while the rasp. taste stays for a bit.

M- Sweet and a bit tart with a medium feel. This goes down real easy though and is even smoother off a tap. A bit of carbonation is on the mouth as well. A raspberry juice taste stays for a bit afterwards.

D- Sad to see it go but loved it while it was here. A decent abv and a good taste, I could drink a 4-pack no problem. Great warm weather beer, to bad it's on hiatus as of now.

12 oz. bottle poured into a chalice.

Appearance - Bright red body. Almost no head. A few off white bubbles.

Smell - Bright raspberry. Juicy and fresh smelling. Sweet and maybe just the slightest aroma of a beer back there.

Taste - Raspberry juice. Slight tartness, but it's more of a sweet raspberry flavor. Faintest bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Low carbonation. Medium body.

Overall - Like its New Glarus brethren, it's mostly juice. I think I'd take the lighter versions over this, though.

Bottle from Bert's
Pours a deep clear reddish purple color with a smallish pink/white head that dissipates almost instantly. Smells like raspberries. Sweet and tart raspberries is all I can find in the aroma really. Maybe a hint of bread if I think about it really hard. The flavor is sweet and tart raspberries with a hint of malt in there and a touch of earth. The mouthfeel is sticky and a bit syrupy, carbonation is low to moderate and the body is moderate. Wine cooler or beer? I enjoyed this a bit and I could drink it again, maybe not my favorite beer but certainly drinkable.

Pours a pink-amber with a thin white head. The aroma immediately reminds me of Lindeman's Framboise for the rich raspberry. The flavor is similar but lighter in body and not quite as strong in flavor. I mean, if you want real raspberries in a glass, you've got it here. There's a mild earthy note that distinguishes this from a raspberry flavored beer and it's almost juicy at times, finishing with a sweet and sour tang.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: Slightly hazy rosey amber color with a light pink head that quickly dissipates to a ring with no lacing. A little sediment made it into the glass as well.
S: Relatively strong smell of fresh raspberries and a little grain. Slightly sour with a little alcohol punch.
T: Light body with a lot of carbonation. Very sweet up front with taste of slightly sour, fresh raspeberries. Surprisingly not much of an artificial taste. Strong malt body, however finish has a slightly grainy, cloying taste with a warming alcohol punch. I enjoyed this, but would like to try a fresher sample.

LOOK: Pours a light brick red color with a pink tinted head. A good amount of lacing is left behind as well. Definitely looks like a well crafted fruit beer.

SMELL: Raspberries and sweet doughy malts. This actually has the aroma of a raspberry muffin. A bit of tart smelling berry notes are coming through as well.

TASTE: Full on raspberry purée flavor that is quite nice. Small bitterness with a citrus hint that is quickly cast aside for more berry. Light berry tartness, pale and biscuity malt character, but mainly fresh raspberry jam here. Bright, fresh and utterly delicious.

FEEL: Medium bodied, well carbonated brew with a delicate tartness that lingers with that raspberry presence in the finish. There is a tapering rooty bitterness that adds a layer to the flavor profile and definitely sticks with you.

OVERALL: Rubaeus is a successful brew, that is for sure. With heaps of berry flavor from 5 different stages of berry additions, this is a straight forward, high quality fruit beer. I'd love to pair this with my grandmother's chocolate raspberry cake.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter, the beer is a dark, vibrant, ruby coloring with no head. Aromas of rich, darkly sweet raspberry, like when you boil the fruit when you are making jelly/jam. Flavors are rich and sweet, heavy in legit raspberry fruit flavors. It does a very good job avoiding the sugary or syrupy sweet characteristics. Tart and slightly bitter notes at the end of the palate. The body is smooth and slick. Rich, sweet, and tart aftertaste that starts to pucker a bit as you continue to drink. Slick, slightly cloying finish with a decent tart linger. Very tasty brew.

Pours a brilliant ruby color with a short head that fades quickly to a rim. Smell is of beautiful fresh raspberries and a touch of malt in the finish. taste is very refreshing, but a tad light, and it crys out for some more tartness. Nice ripe raspberries, a touch of astingency, and a slightly bitter finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied to light and quite quenching. Very drinkable on a hot day.

12oz twist off bottle. No best before date but a sample I'm sure has been slightly aged.

A delightful appearance showcasing flashes of different colours. Rübæus resembles a ripening pomegranate; some parts ruby red, others a pale pink, and still yet in other spots, a distinct tinge of orange. No head less a thin sudsy collar.

The aroma is wonderfully fruit filled, with raspberry easily overlooked among the cherry, cranberry, passion fruit, pomegranate, honey dew, and strawberry that ALL seem present (though aren't part of the recipe). The aroma doesn't merely give 'hints of' or the 'impression of' ... I damn well believe I am smelling strawberry, cranberry, passion fruit, and pomegranate.

The mouthfeel is thin and flat but refreshingly sweet. Both bitterness and alcohol are non-factors, as sweet, sugary fruits take over all aspects of this beer. It is flat and sweet like juice. This sweetness drowns out any presence of hops or malts.

To no surprise it taste purely of ripe fruits. Mandarin, cherry, strawberry, passion fruit, melon, honey dew, tangerine, and especially pomegranate and (of course) raspberries. All of them! A hint of honey too, maybe?

This is no Lambic but it certainly doesn't seem to be your standard fruit beer either. The sheer amount of fruit (both in number and in depth) that they've extracted is unbelievable. I know this beer was fermented with only raspberries, but I swear I am a tasting whole fields, whole orchards, whole fruit stands and produce sections ... and I am very impressed.

A big thanks to Viggo and ThatWineGuy !!!

A- Hazy red-pink body with a short-lived white head on top. Not much lacing if at all.

S- Candied raspberries. Like the smell a lot.

T- Raspberry soda pop! Very different. Somewhat tart. Flavor shows some age/oxidation but still drinkable.

M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is a little low due to age.

D/O- Held up pretty well. Would drink again but don't know how much longer this will still taste good. Per usual, I'm bless I live so close to new Glarus as no other fruit beers come close. Thanks for the cellar save TATURBO.

On draft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.

Poured a deep ruby hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured soft ripe raspberries, that's it.

The taste consisted of the same raspberry element, but not overly sweet.

The mouthfeel was smooth.

Overall a tasty fruit beer.

A - Bright, crystal clear cranberry juice body. Light pink hue in an otherwise white head. Low retention and lace.

S - Sparkling raspberry juice, touch of sour cherry jello powder, sprite soda,

T - Sweet white sugar, tart lemon, raspberry juice, and Sweet Tarts candy.

M - Flat, but full frame with little to no carbonation.

O - Good but not great. The flavors come off as slightly artificial, and the mouthfeel leaves a lot to be desired.

Pours a five-finger+ light pink head that fades quickly leaving no lace. Cloudy red/amber color. Strong rasberry nose. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Starts with a strong sweet raspberry flavor that stays right to the finish, hops and malts are way in the background. $2.99 for a 12oz bottle from Julio's Liquors Westborough, Ma.
