Consumed 9/3/13

Appearance: Medium purple with some pink highlights - mostly clear with some haze - pours with a medium sized, light pink head that fades to a few wisps of a cap - leaves some nice streaks and spots of lacing

Smell: Juicy, fleshy raspberries - some lightly grainy sweetness, though, somewhere between sugar and jam (without being over the top) - robustly fruity without being excessively sweet - perhaps a hint of tart, but just straight-up ripe raspberries

Taste: Raspberries, raspberries everywhere - fresh, ripe, carbonated raspberry juice - nice amount of fruity sweetness - some actual malts in here, too, which were mostly masked in the aroma - light undercurrents of pale and caramel malts, lightly bready - touch of tartness - no bitterness, finishes sweet

Mouthfeel: Medium body, nicely carbonated, but gets kind of sticky as it warms up

Overall: Best paired with raspberry yogurt and raspberry Pop-Tarts

I would probably rate this higher if I had never had any New Glarus fruit beers. Regardless, this may be the best fruit beer that I can buy without going to Wisconsin. It loses some charm as it warms up, but it's still good. And unlike most fruit beers, I would actually buy this again.

Bottled 06/17/13

The head is a pleasing light purplish color. Body is a reddish brown. Retains a little froth up top. Lace clings strong during each sip.

Raspberries, malt and gardeny hints.

This beer straight up tastes like raspberries. You get hints of malt and hops but they are subdued and hard to pinpoint.

Refreshing and light-medium bodied. Sweet and slightly sticky.

Appearance:
The beer has very little reddish head and leaves a thin coating on afterwards. The beer itself is a dark ruby and purple color.

Smell:
Raspberries!! Some sugar as well. The beer smell is not as sugary as some other beers because some of the tartness and funk that comes with raspberries is there.

Taste:
Completely different from the smell. Some of the raspberry tartness and funk is still there but those flavors seem to be overpowered by the sugar. The beer seems to be closest to a sugary lambic than anything else. I also get bits of light malt.

Mouthfeel:
Light bodied with biting carbonation and bit watery. The beer has a dry finish.

Overall:
An okay fruit beer and much better than most other fruit beers that I've had.

12oz bottle bought out by Shaun at our recent tasting. Poured into an unlabeled snifter 8/31/2013.

Pours a thin, pink-red body with a small white head that lingers a bit. Lacing is spotty but actually somewhat substantial. Looks like a light fruit beer.

Smells like straight up raspberries which is very nice. The sweetness is a bit cloying but overall given that this is a fruit beer, I enjoyed the nose.

Very sweet raspberry flavour on the tongue, not very tart or sour at all, not quite cloyingly sweet but the sweetness quotient is definitely high as advertised. Not complex, but definitely enjoyable.

Mouthfeel is very thin, yet it is enjoyable to drink. I thought the finish was a bit drying, which I would not want from a fruit beer that I expect to be refreshing.

Not quite on the level of Raspberry Tart, but I think the sweetness of this beer is just right compared to that Raspberry Tart. RT is thicker with a better nose and appearance but the sweetness on that beer is just off. Rubaeus does it quite well but is lacking in a lot of departments. Still an interesting beer to drink, but I'm definitely not stockpiling these.
