12oz bottle poured into a tulip.

A: Pours a mostly opaque darkish ruby with a one finger light pink head. Quick to dissipate the head leaves some spots of lacing.

S: Fresh raspberry is the biggest part of this beers aroma. Not too fake smelling. Touch of fermented dark fruits as it warms.

T: As anticipated this has loads of raspberry with a complimenting malty finish. A bit sweet of a beer but does have some good tartness. Still has some malt roots to it, hasnt been consumed by fruitiness.

M: Fairly light body with ample carbonation. Not as sticky of a finish as most fruit beers which adds to this ones session-ability.

Overall hits a sweet spot in the summer time. I've always been a fan of raspberries so this one is a no brainer. Certainly can be like by most people.

Tried this first at the Green River Brewfest in June. Enjoyed then, but they were only serving about a half ounce. So I bought a bottle in a mixed six to try.

Poured into an amber wine glass from the 12 oz. bottle.

a: A deep clear red. No surprise there. Finger thick white head vanished rather quickly, leaving a very thin partial surface foam and virtually no lacing.

s: Fruity. Still no surprise.

t: Raspberries! Unsweetened, with a bitter aftertaste which lingers forever. Initial reaction was it was like drinking a dry red raspberry-flavored wine.

m: Medium due to the tart raspberry taste. Refreshing but almost mouth-puckering.

o: A most unusual beer. Rubaeus certainly delivers the raspberry flavor. However, at the price point it might be possible to get just as much fruiity flavor (with more than twice the ABV), from a bottle of Wild Vines or Arbor Mist. I'd recommend this only if you LOVE the flavor of unsweetened semi-ripe raspberries, and don't really want to get a big buzz.

A: Pours a red to purple color in the glass with a crisp white head. Minimal head at pour disappates to just around the rim not too long later. Small spots of lacing.

S: Berry, sugary aroma.

T: Bright red raspberry is the star as expected. Slight sour note. Slight wheat taste. Very sweet - probably could only have one or two of these max in a sitting.

M: Good carbonation - nice lingering carbonation feel on the tongue some minutes later.

O: Good beer but very sweet and probably only up for one.

Pours deep pink in color leaving a moderately sized head which quickly calms down to a film. Looks very carbonated. Smell is of raspberries and a mild alcohol background. A bit tart with a punch that leaves a sweet and tart aftertaste but is balanced very very well. Carbonation is much less than it appears. A smooth creamy mouthfeel that is becoming the trademark of Founders' products. After a sip it just sort of melts in the mouth with no prickly carbonation. Leaves a tart sensation on the tongue and the liquid disappears making you want more.

12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Date is smudged but I can make out that it's from June 2013. Pours a deep red/violet body with two quick fingers worth of pink stained foam. Pretty solid lacing and retention. Aroma is raspberry jam and some caramel malts. Zero hop presence. Taste is similar with tart raspberries and malts. Not as juicy or fruity as New Glarus raspberry tart but on a similar page. Slightly syrupy but never daunting. This is a really solid fruit beer, I just can't believe I'd be in the mood for it that often.

From 07/18/13 notes. Picked up a bottle of this in Narberth, PA at whatever the name of that new bottle shop by the train station is. 12 oz. bottle poured int a snifter.

a - Pours a deep, pink-purple color with one inch of bright white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells a bit metallic, and of very sweet raspberries, raspberry juice, fruity malts, lightly sour dark fruits, and some spice. Very sweet, metallic nose downgrades it to me. Kind of reminds me of that metallic nose and taste you get in something like Sam Adams Cheery Wheat.

t - Taste is much better than the nose. Tastes of sweet raspberry juice, sweet raspberries and dark fruit malts, sugar, spice, and bread. Taste is good but very sweet, keeping it from being great. Like raspberry juice.

m - Light to medium body and low to moderate carbonation. Sugary and sweet, otherwise pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall a decent beer, with a good taste, but the nose is a miss for me. Super sweet so won't be for everyone, but if you like swete fruity beers, you'll probably like this one. I'd suggest trying to get some New Glarus Raspberry Tart instead, but worth checking out.
