A- Pours a deep, ruby red to almost brown color. Hazy and ruddy looking in the body with about a 1.5 finger, pink head. Retention is pretty good down to a thinner film on the top, which also laces pretty well.

S- Fruity and sweet with only the slightest bit of tart flavor detectable. This scent is fairly one dimensional all the way through the smell, with no malts to be found by the nose.

T- Wow! Holy fruit bomb! Starts with a slight hit of tart raspberry flavor before moving towards a much sweeter berry flavor. The tart to sweet progression would be ideal for a hot, humid summer day. Towards the back end of the drink, the sweetness intensifies then fades slightly to reveal just a few hints of a solid, malty backbone. Sweetness lingers a bit on the tongue after each sip.

M- Light in body and high in carbonation would lend this to feeling like your typical summer beer, but a high amount of sweetness makes this feel somewhat syrupy. The sweetness is intense across the palate, giving a slick feel.

Overall, this was much sweeter than I expected, but a good change of pace for a summer seasonal. I would recommend that anyone looking at trying this wait until it's hot as hell out, then go for it.

On-tap at The Salty Pig in Boston. 10oz serving in a Boulevard tulip glass.

A- Appears a dark purplish red in the glass with some light translucency through the fairly dark liquid, about a finger and half of pinkish off-white head forms on the top that dissipates at a moderate rate leaving the glass coated in a thin foamy layering.

S- Very sweet raspberry purée, very juice like, thin malt background, overpowering sweetness and puree qualities makes this not overly pleasant to smell.

T- Lots of puréed raspberries lend a very sweet lightly tart taste with a light malt background, finishes with a fairly crisp almost lager-like finish followed with a long aftertaste of sweet raspberries.

M- Medium bodied to a little bit on the thin side, crisp finish, a hint of syrupiness especially on the finish.

O- This was a decent fruit beer that reminded me a little bit of the New Glarus fruit beers. It was very sweet with a light tartness and in your face fruitiness. The downfall was the overpowering sweetness and the purée quality of the fruit which definitely makes this beer something I couldn't palate drinking a lot of. Definitely an upgrade over Cerise, but still not a beer that I'll likely come back to in the near future.

Hazy, deep scarlet colored ale with a pinkish puffy head on top, slowly crackling away, compacting on itself. Pretty beautiful pour.

Smells like a typical raspberry beer. Sweet, lightly tart maybe. Grainy, husky notes in there...maybe a bit metallic.

Ok first sip was terrible. I don't know if that's because I just drank an IPA or what. But it tastes pretty off. Sweet, full bodied beer. Metallic for sure. The dreaded "artificial" taste that seems to plague most fruit beers. As the palate becomes more adjusted to the taste it is not as bad. Sweet, candy red raspberry flavor develops up front, and carries through till the end which is just a tad drier than the first sip. Leaves a sweetness on the lips. I get where they want to go with this. A fruit beer that's not a "light beer" but a robust, full flavored beer.

For someone searching for a beer that's not all that much like a beer, this would be a good option. Sweet, candy like beer that comes from a well known and respected brewer. I will not be trying this again, though I might recommend it to someone who is just easing into beer from the mixed drink category.

Bottled 6/26/13
Poured into Founders Bolt Cutter glass

Pour: Reddish-purple color with two fingers of light pink head. Lacing is noticed as the head settles. Lacing is all over the glass with each sip as this beer nears the end.

Smell: Well yes raspberries albeit not over powering. Sweet smelling like honey with a slight touch of malt. I'm picking up what I find to be a metallic type smell also.

Taste: A very refreshing sweet raspberry upfront with a nice tartness quickly following. It is a sweet beer for sure but I do like how the sweet and sour notes complement each other.

Mouthfeel: Light-medium with a sticky feel. Carbonation is rather high creating a refreshing feel.

Overall: Though one or two is more than enough for me in a sitting, I can see this one being a very drinkable beer on a hot day.
