Picked up a four pack of this tonight. This is my first time trying it out of a bottle. Still does NOT disappoint. The raspberries make this ale very easy to drink, yet still has a slight-kick of malt and hops on the back-end. 5/5 in my book! It's always a plus when the wife likes it as well :]

ALSO, I have one OR two(probably one, because it's so tasty!) for trade, in-box if you're interested! (398 characters)

Look is best described as red wheat ale. Aroma is subtle but clear and true to the concept. This is what a raspberry ale is supposed to taste like. It is less tart than a lambic but sweet like one. Would like to age some. (221 characters)

Refreshing, not overwhelming with the raspberry, or syrupy like some sweet beers. Feels like a lambic, a little tart and sharp but you still get some malt and hops underneath the raspberry. Easy to drink if not a mindblower. (226 characters)

Pours well carbonated but no head retention, and gives a gorgeous ruby colored glow in the glass. Yup, looks like we're in raspberry town. Well, it is brewed with a ton of raspberries, added both before and throughout the brewing process.

Smells completely like raspberries and...well, that's pretty much most of what I'm getting from the nose on this one. Maybe more specifically like a raspberry soda, but a very all-natural one, not the kind that tries to taste like a Jolly Rancher. You get the idea.

Tastes...the same. Yeah, they really pushed for the raspberry demographic on this one. Sweet and a bit tart, just like a raspberry, and then just a hint of bitterness on the finish, which kinda comes as a surprise considering I was almost fooled into thinking this wasn't beer. Oh wait - it's not, it's a malt beverage. Well, I can't say it's not successful and very drinkable as a good hard beverage for the summer, though more like a sophisticated Smirnoff Ice than the fruity ale I was expecting. (1,014 characters)

Pours a clear, deep ruby red with some copper hints. Leaves a small white head that dissipates quickly. Leaves a fair amount of lacing on the glass.

Smells very much like raspberry, not getting much else in the scent, but it is an attractive aroma.

This is a fruit beer through and through, dominates the presence, malt and hops take a backseat. Raspberry notes, sweet upfront, takes on a tart tone through the middle and the finish, where the malt peeks from behind the curtain a bit.

Crisp, refreshing, light bodied, sitting down with one of these after being out in the sun for a time would be very nice indeed.

A very solid fruit beer with an appealing mix of sweet and tart with refreshing carbonation. (712 characters)

From the 12 fl., oz. bottle. Sampled on April 10, 2015.

Reddish-brown pour with modest head. The head fades.

The aroma is full of raspberry esters, which was to be expected. A little sweet malt character behind it all. But, yes, the fruit takes it over.

The body is light to medium.

The raspberry fruit is dominant in the flavor. If one was tom rate this by the taste it does deserve a very high rating because it is exactly what it promises to be. But this is a style I tend to avoid so my rating maybe lower. Sorry about the bias. (536 characters)

I really wanted to like this one, but I didn't. It was reddish/orange in color. Very sweet, raspberry taste (and I love raspberry anything), but it tasted like vomit to me. (172 characters)

I am not a fan beer in general but if I had to pick one this one would win hands down every time. It is sweet and delicious. It has a brilliant red color with a vibrant sweet aroma of raspberry. When tasting this it is soft, sweet and a hint of tartness. The sweetness of this beer is not overwhelming in any sense. (315 characters)

It is what it is. Not really for me, too tart sweet. For the style its good, fresh fruit flavor ect, but not what I look for in beer. Would go well with dessert. (161 characters)

Pours a dark red with almost pink head that trails the glass. The smell was full of raspberry to the point where I couldn't make out anything else. The taste was rather pleasant, but very sweet. But the aftertaste lingered way too long with a mouthfeel that was a bit syrupy. A great dessert beer but I can't see myself drinking more than one at a time. (353 characters)

Poured into a tulip glass at The Courtyard Brewery, NOLA

A: Raspberry red in color, opaque, with a pinkish half finger head that lingers.

S: Malty raspberries, sweet, summery. Just a tad below cough syrup.

T: The raspberries really shine thorough. Not overpowering. A sweet, sensual sipper to be enjoyed in the great outdoors. Slightly medicinal, but not overpowering.

M: Light to medium with low carbonation. Wet and wild.

O: Glad I got to try this one. An interesting dessert beer. I bet this would mix well with a sweet wine. (548 characters)

355ml bottle poured into a tulip glass

Look: Pours a dark red/burgundy with a bubbly pink head that settles down to a bit of surface foam. No lacing to speak of. Probably served slightly too warm, but hey ho.

Smell: Raspberry, oddly enough - it hits you pretty much as soon as you've got the cap off the bottle and is a little bit overpowering to begin with. Once poured, it manages not to smell like cough syrup, and there's a bit of malt hiding behind the fruit.

Taste:Whilst it might not smell like cough syrup, it does taste a bit like it. True, there's the zingy bitterness of raspberries and a hint of malt, but really the fruit flavour is kind of overpowering.

Feel: Slightly syrupy and cloying, not helped by the light carbonation. OK, some of this will, no doubt, be down to the fruit but even so it's hard going.

Overall: I tried to like this, really I did - I've read good things about it, and Founders in general, so was immensely disappointed with the overpowering raspberry-ness of it. Somehow it comes out tasting rather artifical, although in the interests of full disclosure I prefer kriek-style beers anyway. Sadly, in the UK at least, a proper Belgian frambozen is easier to track down and ultimately better tasting too. Disappointing. (1,260 characters)

Pours a brown to redish color with a small pinkish head that dissipates slowly leaving good lacing down a 20oz pub glass.

Smell is pretty good. There is a lot of raspberry and sweet malts.

Taste is very berry and sweet. I get an almost syrupy sweet berry taste that fades to a little bit of tartness of a berry and a little bit of maltyness at the end.

Mouthfeel is good. I get that syrupy feel to it with a nice bit of carbonation.

Overall, it is what it is. Very sweet almost too sweet. I like it but I would like to see a little more malt presence to balance out the berryness. (594 characters)

Pours a slightly cloudy medium brown with a nice 1-2 finger white head that disipated into a healthy layer of foam and plenty of lacing.

Subtle smell of berry and sweet malt.

First sip and wow, that's Raspberry. Not tart, but the small amount of sour balances the sweet perfectly. Not hoppy at all. Very fruity. Quite delicious. Definitely a fruit beer.

Mouthfeel is medium, slightly syrupy, good carbonation to liven the senses.

This is wonderfully refreshing and very drinkable brew. I think it would go down really well on a hot summer afternoon. (562 characters)

At my local bar/bottle shop we keep this on tap almost all summer/fall, and it's a great go to on a hot day or just a nice day in general. As refreshing as a beer can get. This and Steigl Radler are two beers to have around for a hot summer day. (245 characters)

Almost a drain pour. I was not alone in disliking this beer among 3 fellow tasters.
Gave away the rest. I'm a huge fan of Founders.

A: Dark rosy pink hazed body with a wispy head that fades and no lace. No body.

N: Nose is raspberry soda.

T: Starts with a sweet syrup and much too much raspberry. The raspberry takes over. No bitterness, too much sweet. It lacks the sour, wild, funky, anything.... Its fruit juice.

F: To sweet and too much carbonation. It's soda.

Pass or drain pour. Good for flowers? (511 characters)

355ml bottle. BB 04/2015. Pours a mid rosé colour. Creamy pink head, good retention and nice lacing. Aroma of raspberry syrup, artificial sweetener and some grain. Initial taste is quite sweet but not in an overpowering way and then some dry tartness. Medium almost winelike body, effervescent, sticky lingering mouthfeel. Gentle alcohol warmth. A pleasantly interesting beer. (377 characters)

On tap at Beer House in Lombard, IL. Served in a pokal glass.

A: That's definitely a red beer, and not in the "looks amber" sense - much like the difference between someone with natural red hair versus someone who grabbed a bottle of Fire Engine hair dye. It's obviously more in the latter category. There was no head to speak of when this arrived, and it was also not much in the lacing department.

S: Tart fruit notes swell out of the glass, all berries and grapes, with no real indication that this is an actual beer. Granted, I was in a bar, so that may have affected my olfactory judgment, but this is a bar with no kitchen.

T: The taste category can be readily summed up in two simple words - "wine soda". This seriously drinks like a carbonated red wine, laden with tart berry and grape notes through the entire tasting process. There are some faints hints of malt beneath, and nothing so much as vaguely resembling the echo of a shadow of a whisper of a ghost of any hop presence (which I appreciate).

M: Light and fairly well carbonated.

O: An interesting experience for a fruit beer. I would likely repeat it at some point, though I doubt this would ever become a regular beer for me. (1,199 characters)

Very good fruit beer. The flavor of the raspberries really comes out without the beer either being too sweet or too tart.

Poured into a True Beer flute, a reddish, amber clear color with a pink tinged bubbly white head. The aromas is fresh raspberries and malt.

Flavor is more of the same, a very nice presentation of the raspberry flavor with a simple malty base. Very tasty, nicely balanced between tartness and sweetness.

Mouthfeel is light and smooth. Goes down very easy. A good summertime beer. (505 characters)

As fruit beers go, this one is fantastic. I can see how it may be too sweet for some, but I find the mild tartness balances it appropriately. The berry flavors are juicy and natural, and it maintains a full body without ever coming across as syrupy or cloying. As much as I enjoy it straight, it's perfect for adding a little berry flavor to my favorite porters, stouts, and even lighter IPA's. (395 characters)

Pours a clear pinkish copper color with a frothy white head that leaves little bits of lacing.

Smells of raspberries and sweet malt.

Tastes of the sweet raspberries. Raspberry notes lead off with some sweetness and a bit of tartness as well. A bit more malt adds in with a touch of bread, but plays off of the sweetness. Not particularly complex, but I feel it is done pretty well.

Mouthfeel is medium with a slightly crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a raspberry beer that well, tastes like rapsberries. I can't complain about it, but it is a touch sweet for me and I would like some more tartness. (621 characters)

I had high hopes for this brew and found a few on the shelf. Quickly grabbed it and put it in the fridge soon after. The pour met my anticipation, a nice clear cranberry red with medium carbonation. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. At first it tastes quite nice there's a definite raspberry presence with a tinge of tartness, however it quickly turns into cough syrup. The flavour is completely dominated by this medicinal quality. This returns after each taste but thankfully does not linger in the finish. The mouth feel is a bit slick and oily and leaves a finish again similar to cough syrup.

After reading a few reviews here it seems that I may have gotten a bottle from the "bad" batch. However I stick by my rating as this inconsistency seems common enough. I'd hesitantly be willing to give this another go. (826 characters)

Poured a clear ruby red body with a thin ring of pinkish head. A good looking fruit beer, very bright and inviting. Scents of sweet and slightly tart raspberries, raspberry tart and indeterminate red berry flavors. Overall impression of aroma is of a very fruity, raspberry dominated profile that is pleasant, but a bit one note. Still very nice for a fruity beer. Flavor begins very sweet, with strong notes of sweet raspberries and lesser, though still moderate flavors of strawberries and blackberries. A slight sweet malt is in the background. These flavors continue into the middle. Finish is sweet with the same flavors on display, with a bit of an apple flavor also present and a slight acidity. Aftertaste is raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and sweet and grainy malt. Overall impression of flavor is of a sweet and very fruity beer. Those flavors dominate and make this a pleasant and refreshing, but a bit one note. Mouthfeel is light bodied with moderate carbonation and a smooth, slightly tart and juicy feel. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a nice, light, refreshing beer that is very pleasant. Overall this is a good fruit beer. It is light, fruity and very refreshing with a wonderfully pleasant aroma and nicely sweet flavor profile. This is further enhanced by the mouthfeel. It is a bit one note, like many fruit beers, but it is still good for the style. (1,386 characters)

YUM. Sometimes I can find this on draft at a dive bar. That's always a good night. It's tart and sweet and tastes like real fruit, unlike most others. I don't even mind fulfilling the girl drinker stereotype with a big red glass of this in front of me. (252 characters)
