A: This poured a translucent cherry red with almost no head.
S: It smelled like sweet raspberry jam, with a slight bit of bready malt.
T: It tasted like sweet raspberry jam. It had a clean and sweet aftertaste.
M: It was slightly thick with a little carbonation. Light body.
D: This was a fantastic raspberry ale. The scent and taste were delicious. The body was ok, but the finish was really smooth, so it was really easy to drink. Better than Raspberry Tart. Impressive dessert beer.

I don't care much for the looks, but for what it is, I'm not sure how you get around it. The pour is a deep burgundy, looks like wine, and fortunately, it's not clear like other fruity beers, but rather has a slight haze to it. The head isn't much, a finger thick at best, and it's pink. Little retention so you don't have to look at it long.

The nose is overwhelmingly raspberry. No malt or hop presense whatsoever, just garden picked, fresh raspberries.

It's ok. The first few sips almost resemble beer, but after that, it's more or less and Bartles and James wine cooler...raspberry flavored.

Not awful, just not very beer like. Sweet up front, slight resemblance to an ale midsip, then very tart. The tart is extremely sharp, but never crosses the line to being kriek-like. Carbonation starts to work near the finish with a strong bite to completely scrape the palate clean so you can tolerate the next swallow.

A fruit beer is what a fruit beer is--barely beer like, some not even drinkable. This is drinkable, but only slightly beer like. It's well above average for a fruit beer.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Flying Dog goblet (couldn't read the bottling date)

A: Deep purple, amethyst color. Slight lacing.

S: Sweet and tart. Lots of raspberry. There is even a bit of funk/yeast in there.

T: Quite sweet and not very tart. This could use a slight balance of those two notes, less sweet and more tart. It tastes a bit like soda. Lots of raspberry comes through, which is rare. Most fruit beers don't have the fruit flavor as prominent. I feel that the sign of a good fruit beer is the prominence of the fruit.

M: Slick but still prickly. Good feeling here with less carb then kombucha.

O: I could drink this all day (or summer). I hope Founders comes to MD by next summer because I would love to have better access to this.

An awesome brew sent to me from laymansbeerfan, a big want. Poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint -

A: Red body, slight chill haze, with a head that fades quickly.

S: Fresh raspberry, period. I could half-lie and say I get notes of honey blossom and sweet bready matliness (which, maybe I do?), but mostly this is plain ol' sweet and tart raspberry.

T: Fresh, sweet & tart raspberries. Again, extra-faint hints of other things like malt and random fruit poking through, but pretty much straight-up raspberry puree. Lots of fruitiness.

MF: Feels like a fruit juice, but with a bit more body (light to medium), a bit fizzy with good carbonation. Tart and refreshing.

O: Really pleasant, not quite as earth shattering as Blushing Monk but a darn good substitute in 12's and 4 packs. Good stuff.

So rating this beer was difficult. I don't have anything to compare it to so I really had to look at it on its own merits. It's a very distinctive beer.

A - A lovely ruby color, cloudy, with one and a half fingers of foamy white head.
S - Raspberries in a big way. It smells a lot like raspberry jam, with maybe a hint of some pine resin (?). I found myself just smelling it, it was that good.
T - Tart raspberry, with maybe a hint of citrus (oranges?). Not as sweet as it smells, but still quite sweet. Unlike other offerings in the fruit beer category, this one doesn't taste like they added fruit syrup, but rather brewed the beer with lots of fruit. It was a surprising taste, but once I got over my initial shock I enjoyed it a lot.
M - Again, wonderfully done. High carbonation (almost fizzy), with medium body. Lingering tartness from the raspberries.
O - This isn't a beer I would normally go for (fruit beers that is), but once again Founders proves that they can make anything awesome. I really, really enjoyed this beer.
