Hard to review as a beer, but pretty tasty nonetheless! Pours ruddy, with no foam. Aroma is definitely raspberry. Very nice, I'll definitely suggest this to my next girlfriend. Taste is a nice balance of sweet and tart, true to the real berry. It's a bit more carbonated than I like and leaves a tart aftertaste. Kinda weird, kinda good.

Had this on tap on nitro. Initially nice balance of sweetness to tart. As it warmed up it got to be a little too fruity tasting. Not really as refreshing as some of the other fruit beers.

Love the raspberry taste, anything but artificial. HOWEVER, it didn't taste like a beer, it was a wine cooler with a bit more abv. It gave me a tummy ache it was so sweet and malty. Wouldn't be caught buying it, but I'd drink one if someone tossed it to me.

Tasted from a 12 oz bottle on September 14, 2015. Look is pink, thin head and some lacing. Smell is tart berries and biscuity malts. Taste is sweet and lightly tart raspberry. Feel is light in body with a crisp finish.

A : Pours a pink wine color from the bottle, but as it fills the glass and settles it sits at more of a brick red color. Opacity is @ 70%. The head is bubble gum pink, with traces of white. Lacing is left in sparse graphics on the sides of the glass.

S : Fresh, tart raspberries, maybe crushed. This is the spotlight. Beyond that I can smell dry jarred barley.

T : Very tart, very fruity. The raspberry is very loud here and has a great mix of tartness and sweetness. Behind that luscious fruitiness it takes on more of a Blonde Ale character : golden and toasted malts, a tiny bit of grassy hop. At the tail end there's a snap of ginger and a squeeze of lime.

F : Pretty creamy while being extremely refreshing. A lively carbonation stays beneath the body to pop it up into excitement. A semi dry finish wraps it up.

O : Apparently raspberry fruit ales are impossible to make, because this is the only solid one I've had thus far. I love raspberries, and I love beer, but it seems like the two can never marry together properly, or at least a multitude of brewers have trouble doing it right. Founders was not one of those. I really enjoy Rubaeus and would have it again!

*Bottled on 6/2/2015, drank on 9/4/2015.

Look: Very pretty, like a ruby red grapefruit. Small head that dissipates pretty quickly.

Smell: Not much of anything, actually. A little raspberry, a tiny bit of acidity.

Taste: Overall a pleasant drinking beer, with a Raspberry-with-a-capital-R taste. No notes in the sour/gose/lambic range, just a lot of raspberry sweetness—but not in a syrupy or sickly-sweet way.

Feel: A good bit of effervescence on the tongue.

Overall: A solid drinking on the porch in the summer choice.

Founders Rubæus.

Is this supposed to be a lambic although not by traditional sense orrrr..what exactly is the deal here..?.

Look - Pours what I would say is the most perfectionate amber I have ever seen with a head that never truly forms. Carbonation appears to be pretty low surprisingly. 4

Smell - Not really getting a whole lot here. Almost like some wannabe levels of raspberry that are half artificial with a bit of bread like qualities. 3

Taste - The raspberry aspect is still there and dominates the majority of the flavor but it has neither an inviting tartness nor even a touch of bitter beyond a quick surprise squirm of the mouth. Bread levels are still on medium. Let it warm a bit, then it can show it is legit, although still not too heavy. 3.75.

Feel - Body is pretty well rounded and the tart aspect makes itself known here. Carbonation is about moderate as would fit the style. 4.25.

Overall - Y'know what, after finishing the brew I'd say it isn't a wannabe at all. Actually, a fine way to introduce somebody to the world of lambics and sours. The smell was a bit goofy but the taste had its heart in the right place, though slightly missing the mark. Cannot complain as I paid $1.69 for the bottle FRESH mind you and the guy was obvisouly try to cut losses. Try it out, and come to your own judgement. 3.75.

Beautiful salmon pink color, with shreds of sticky lace. Aroma is raspberries, some malty notes (biscuity), a bit of a saccharine sweet note. Flavor more orless follows, slightly tangy but overly sweet. Finishes with a bit of a fake sugar sticky feel.

2015 Bottle

A — Pours a bright pinkish red hue into the glass, thin white head forms, but leaves behind only sticky bits of lace.

S — Smells fantastic, lots of bright raspberry and strawberry, lightly tart, really just smells like freshly picked raspberries.

T — Sweet overall, notes of raspberry, light lemon, just dominated by raspberries, exactly as it was billed, just really really sweet.

M — Medium bodied, sticky and lingering finish.

O — A nice enough beer, but this would be over the top if it had some lacto to add some tartness, as it is currently its a bit too sweet.

poured a reddish hue into a pint glass, head disappeared quickly leaving a light paper thin white froth. Had a obvious raspberry taste to it and a malty quality I am unable to place, slight tangy feel but overall refreshing brew!

Poured 12 oz. bottle into snifter glass. 5.7% abv

Appearance- Poures a deep garnet color with a thin head quick to dissipate.

Smell- Ripe raspberries dominate the aroma, very fresh smelling. Hints of a sweet malt but hard to decipher through the fruit.

Taste- Sweet raspberry arrives first, turning slightly tart midway through the taste. A bit of grainy malt, but not near as strong of a malt force as most beers are as the fruit stands above. Finishes slightly dry retaining the sweet berry flavors.

Mouthfeel- Medium-thin in body which makes this beer refreshing.

Overall- If this isn't a refreshing beer I don't know what is. Great for Summer. Reminiscent of a wine cooler but this is definitley a beer. A superior fruit beer.

Had this again yesterday. I generally prefer Blushing Monk because of the absurdly decadent mouthfeel. However yesterday this was on nitro and it makes a huge difference. The flavor is very similar to Blushing Monk, that one is just raspberries turned to 11.

This would be like "light" - but it was a perfect beer for a hot day. Lower ABV helped, raspberry was refreshing, but the nitro took it one step further in providing a a better mouthfeel.

Thanks Mike for the in person trade!
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a hazy ruby red color with a slim little white head that quickly dissipated. Lacing was slightly stringy here and there.
The smell had strong tart raspberry notes.
The taste was tart through the raspberry. A lingering raspberry aftertaste runs into the finish.
The mouthfeel sat about a light on the body with a big sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly harsh on this one.
Overall, its a raspberry beer, nothing more, nothing less, nothing spectacular, nothing bad. Nice to try, but probably wouldn't seek out again.

This beer pours a gorgeous reddish brown with a pink hued head. The aroma is fresh raspberry followed by a toasty malt The flavor is lights, but extremely pleasant, with the promised raspberry taking the lead. While I may not reach for fruit beers with regularity, this is one of the best I have had. Direct, simple, and very tasty.

This is exactly what someone should expect from a Raspberry Ale. Light malt, sticky sweetness and a nice fruit flavor. The bottle I am having is nearly a year old and its still tasting right on, maybe even better than when it was released.

Poured from a 12oz glass into a St Bernardus chalice. Bottles 2 June 2015.
Murky-clear auburn.
It smells super-raspberry-y. Very much so. A mild beeriness underlies it.
It's magnificent. A little on the sweet and syrupy side, but there's juust enough redeeming tartness to keep it enjoyable. Very little carbonation, and the aftertaste is mostly sticky fruit preserves.
Overall, a really enjoyable beer...IF you like raspberries. Which I do. :)

Pours a brilliant hazy ruby; smells of raspberry (duh) jelly donuts. The initial taste is an explosion of natural raspberries - very little to no cloying syrupy sweetness here. Finishes with some light breadiness, really drinks like a raspberry danish or some other fruity confectionary. Taste lingers well after drinking but does not overstay its welcome.

This is a fruit beer done correctly. Great summer beer.

L: Bright red, exactly what I would expect from this one.
S: Sweet raspberries.
T: Big raspberries, the sweetness and tartness go hand and hand. Another very well made beer by Founders. I only dock, because it's just not my style.
F: A lot of carbonation, but it fits the bill perfectly for this one. Obviously thin given it's a fruit beer.
O: Summer time fruit beer. It has it's place about once a year for me.

12oz bottle into a tulip.

A: Pours a remarkable, clear, deep pink/red much akin to a rose wine. 1/2" fizzy white head that recedes very quickly. Not very much retention. No lacing.

S: Sweetish raspberry, hints of tartness, an overall juicy characteristic on the nose.

T: Very natural semi-sweet raspberry notes lead in. Mid palate features a bit more a of saccharine quality with just a faint hint of malt underneath. Finish is sharp & short.

M: Moderate carb & just enough body to remind you that you're drinking a beer. Quite refreshing.

O: Very enjoyable, not artificial tasting at all.

A deep dark pink color with light head and decreasing light lacing. A valid effort at Abita's Purple Haze flavor with a touch of alcohol.
I enjoyed this refreshing summer change of pace in a 16 oz pint glass poured from the tap.

Pours strawberry red with small head and minimal lacing. Smell is earthy herbal raspberries. The fruit flavor in the beer taste very real. You don't get that medicine taste that I've had with other fruit beers I've tried. It's a fresh raspberry with fruit herbal tea flavor and a malty backbone. Very tasty for a fruit beer but I must admit I'm not a fan of the style.

Picked up a single from TW Arrowhead on May 1st for $3.49. Bottled on 3/12/2015.

Beer poured reddish-pink with a thin white head that dissipated quickly.

Nose is the traditional wheat/malt raspberry ale, very pleasant.

Taste is very sweet but not cloyingly so...yet. It is a refreshing brew.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied which i believe is the intent of the brewer.

Overall this is a pretty good brew, nice and refreshing. Definitely a chick brew for those sweaty July and August days. This was nice to try but likely will not purchase again.

It's a summer beer. I always drink straight from the bottle. No idea what it looks like.

Aroma is all raspberry. Just got finished picking red raspberries and the aroma isn't artificial or medicinal.

Taste: red raspberries. Nailed it.

Nice carbonated mouthfeel, ,appropriate for a fruit beer.

Overall, nice summertime beer.
