12 ouncer, twist top, no freshness/brewing date info. Pours quite low carbonation , next to no head sticking around and then zip lace. Lovely raspberry nose, fresh and fruity. Fine quality fruit beer, raspberries up front, middle and through the long tasty finish. Tart/sour/sweet all going on and dancing with each other. Nice summer refresher. I'd like to try it with a fruity light dessert, would make a nice beer to do a before meal toast with, instead of champagne.

( Served in an American pint glass)

A-This beer opened with a big “Pssst” and poured a full glass of light raspberry colored foam. The tiny body is a hazy reddish orange hue with a strong carbonation.

S- The aroma is a big fresh sweet raspberry with a hint of tartness but not a yogurt sourness.

T- The flavor is a big raspberry tartness without the berry flavor and some hoppy floral taste. There is a finish of pale malt in the body.

M- medium mouthfeel with a bit of fizz. There is some astringency or maybe just a big tartness.

D- This beer has the big nose of a great raspberry beer but it is missing the flavor. It was really over-carbonated but I don't think that affected the flavor much. It was missing flavors like fresh berries or malt or hops to balance. It just needs something besides sour.

Pours a five-finger+ light pink head that fades quickly leaving no lace. Cloudy red/amber color. Strong rasberry nose. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Starts with a strong sweet raspberry flavor that stays right to the finish, hops and malts are way in the background. $2.99 for a 12oz bottle from Julio's Liquors Westborough, Ma.

Pours a very dark ruby red color with dark cherry red hues when held to a light source and a 2 finger foamy off-white head with a slightly pink tinge. Decent retention, slowly fading into a lasting ring with minimal lacing.

Aroma is dominated by raspberries with a bit of an artificial syrupy presence as well as a tart funky note.

Sour and tart but not too puckering that nicely balance out the sweetness of the raspberries and syrupy fruit flavor. This sweetness is still the dominant flavor but without the slight tart feel it would be a bit overbearing.

12oz bottle purchased as a single at Julio's, Westboro, MA.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 5" blush-hued head over the 1/2" of raspberry-tinged amber brew. Head fades very slowly, I had dinner while it receded, with heavy, frothy lacing as expected with such a head. Aroma is something to behold, effervescent raspberries dominant. Taste is the same berries upfront, mellows with some malt body, and then closes with a bit of a sour tinge. Mouthfeel is not quite as smooth as I had hoped/expected, and seemed a bit over-carbonated, but still not bad. Drinkability was somewhat limited by how long it took to get in the glass. Not a bad fruit brew, but I've had better.

Unquestionably, the best aspect of this beer was its beautiful, deep, dark pink color. It arrived with no head, but instead, just a white ring around the edge of the glass. The nose was unmistakably of raspberry. The mouthfeel was light to medium with lots of raspberry flavor in the mouth. The finish was dry, but not intensely so. Jonathan let me try some of his Blushing Monk to compare, but the tart dryness was too much.

12oz bottle into a snifter. The brew appears a brilliant clear ruby color with a pink stained frothy head a finger strong. It fades slowly leaving strings of patchy lacework. A swirl effortlessly revives a finger back to the surface.

The aroma is jam-like with fresh raspberry juice and a bit of earthen seedy aspect. When swirled it displays a mild amount of cheese and sulfur with a bready grain element that transitions to more of a green yeastiness.

The flavor is sweet with a taste of cereal grains, bread, biscuit, wheat and plenty of natural raspberry flavoring. The fruity element is caught somewhere between sugar-free candy and luden's cough drops. The aftertaste has more of that previously mentioned earthen to pit or seeded raspberry character somewhat grassy even and mildly medicinal to mineral-like.

This is a light bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation that is very easy drinking. As far as fruit beers go, this is a pretty solid offering. An abundance of fruit and enough of a wheat grain base to remind you this is beer. As it warms up, a slight tingle of that 5.7% starts to show itself. Admittedly, I purchased a 4-pack of this hoping it was an overloaded fruity concoction that my wife would enjoy. Unfortunately, it is no New Glarus raspberry tart but it isnt bad either.

12 oz bottle into a flute.

Pours a hazy deep rose color with 1/2 finger of fizzy brite-white head. This peters down pretty quickly but then retains around the edges (with thin wisps across the center) and flares up very nicely when swirled, leaving a huge cascade of lace down the sides of the glass. The aroma is lush with fresh raspberry character as well as some addittional underlying sweetness and floral hops in the back.

The taste is once again a big, fresh, raspberry presence along with another level of backing sweetness, like maybe caramel malts. A solid tingle of hops runs through the backbone of the beer and kicks things up a bit, providing some needed bitterness. Finishes a bit sticky on the lips. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a lively carbonation and easy feel. Very drinkable even though there is a touch of alcohol beef to it, comparable to what you would find in a well balanced 7% IPA or something similar.

This was a very well crafted Fruit Beer that mixes fresh raspberry character with a great drinkibility that belies it's higher ABV. I'm sad to hear that this will be going on a hiatus. Drink up while you can!

12oz twist off bottle. No best before date but a sample I'm sure has been slightly aged.

A delightful appearance showcasing flashes of different colours. Rübæus resembles a ripening pomegranate; some parts ruby red, others a pale pink, and still yet in other spots, a distinct tinge of orange. No head less a thin sudsy collar.

The aroma is wonderfully fruit filled, with raspberry easily overlooked among the cherry, cranberry, passion fruit, pomegranate, honey dew, and strawberry that ALL seem present (though aren't part of the recipe). The aroma doesn't merely give 'hints of' or the 'impression of' ... I damn well believe I am smelling strawberry, cranberry, passion fruit, and pomegranate.

The mouthfeel is thin and flat but refreshingly sweet. Both bitterness and alcohol are non-factors, as sweet, sugary fruits take over all aspects of this beer. It is flat and sweet like juice. This sweetness drowns out any presence of hops or malts.

To no surprise it taste purely of ripe fruits. Mandarin, cherry, strawberry, passion fruit, melon, honey dew, tangerine, and especially pomegranate and (of course) raspberries. All of them! A hint of honey too, maybe?

This is no Lambic but it certainly doesn't seem to be your standard fruit beer either. The sheer amount of fruit (both in number and in depth) that they've extracted is unbelievable. I know this beer was fermented with only raspberries, but I swear I am a tasting whole fields, whole orchards, whole fruit stands and produce sections ... and I am very impressed.

A big thanks to Viggo and ThatWineGuy !!!

On draft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.

Poured a deep ruby hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured soft ripe raspberries, that's it.

The taste consisted of the same raspberry element, but not overly sweet.

The mouthfeel was smooth.

Overall a tasty fruit beer.

Picked up at Whole Foods in Chicago for $9.99 a 4 pack.

Pours a clear reddish pink, medium white head forms, some lace spots, thin layer forms, disappears to a thin ring. Smell is sweet, lots of raspberries, bready, general fruit, strawberries, not very complex but nice. Taste is similar, sweet malt, some caramel, very fruity, tons of raspberry flavour, nice fruity finish. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. The raspberries are slightly tart, nicely done fruit beer.

Deep looking ruby/scarlet red. Thick froth of pint tinted head. Very foamy and long lasting. Lace is quite good as well. Fresh raspberry aroma. Very nice. Like a raspberry torte. Also a little toasted maltiness in the background. Very inviting to say the least. The flavor is not quite as good as the aroma, but still, it's good. Raspberries offer sweet and tart traits. There's a happy medium between the two. The aftertaste is a little sour/tangy. Seems like some caramel maltiness lying below. The body of the beer is about medium. Nicely carbonated. Spritzy feel to it. Alcohol is not noticeable, and I guess this is about 7%. Pretty high for a fruit beer, but it works. This is a solid offering in the fruit department.

Thanks for yet another Founders brew cokes.

A: Poured a pink grapefruit color that appeared much darker in the glass of ruby-orange. The head was eggshell white in color, thin, bubbly, with pink hues. Upon closer inspection there was a big haze and turbidity nature to the beer with a few floaties to be seen.

S: Tart, fruity raspberries and some sugary sweetness combine to produce a soft, perfumy aroma.

T: sugary sweet raspberries. Very fruity and sweet overall. Wish I had more to say and elaborate on but that was pretty much it in a nutshell.

M The mouthful was medium, oily with almost no carbonation detected, while it left a tart berry tang behind on the swallow.

D: Overall it was overbearingly sweet at times and hard to imagine putting more then one of these down at a time. A six pack may last awhile and may be a bit much as don't see this beer having much redrinking value.

LOOK: Pours a light brick red color with a pink tinted head. A good amount of lacing is left behind as well. Definitely looks like a well crafted fruit beer.

SMELL: Raspberries and sweet doughy malts. This actually has the aroma of a raspberry muffin. A bit of tart smelling berry notes are coming through as well.

TASTE: Full on raspberry purée flavor that is quite nice. Small bitterness with a citrus hint that is quickly cast aside for more berry. Light berry tartness, pale and biscuity malt character, but mainly fresh raspberry jam here. Bright, fresh and utterly delicious.

FEEL: Medium bodied, well carbonated brew with a delicate tartness that lingers with that raspberry presence in the finish. There is a tapering rooty bitterness that adds a layer to the flavor profile and definitely sticks with you.

OVERALL: Rubaeus is a successful brew, that is for sure. With heaps of berry flavor from 5 different stages of berry additions, this is a straight forward, high quality fruit beer. I'd love to pair this with my grandmother's chocolate raspberry cake.

Red grapefruit colour, hazy, topped by white foam with a pink cast. Smells like... raspberries! But still definitely beer. There's a bit of maltiness that comes through in the aroma. Starts with a little malty sweetness, but that's quickly overshadowed by a tart flavour that's not overly acidic. Dry overall with some fruity sweetness throughout. Slightly syrupy texture and ample carbonation. Long finish that tastes like you just finished eating some raspberries. Quite a nice fruit beer, not overly sweet with a good acidity level.

Thanks to mac300 for sharing this one. Poured into a pint cold.
A - A medium cranberry color w/ thin white head and good clarity. A little lace is produced that doesn't stick.

S - Big candied raspberry scent, like a raz liquer.

M - Fruity tartness with minimal acidity. Feels like drinking sugary berry juice.

T - A very juicy Raz w/ subtle grain flavor and textures that are wrapped up in the sweetness and mildly dry taste w/ nicely accented fruit. The effervescence is pleasant and complements the deeply intense juicy raspberry taste well.

D - So easy to drink like a Dole juice pop twisted into beer. Very fruit forward raspberry ale. One of the best fruit flavored beers I have had. The berry taste is natural and not overdone, very tasteful and all-around drinkable.

Pours a sexy garnet with a thin head into my glass. Love the color. Love the idea that it's a break from the usual hoppy beers.

Aroma is full of raspberries and precious little else. In other words, it's not one of those fake fruit beers that are atypical of the season.

The taste backs up my assertion there. Luscious raspberry flavor that grabs your taste buds by the throat (ok, that was cliche). Pretty damn tasty regardless.

Ditto on the mouthfeel. Nothing but raspberries all around.

This beer was made for mixing with other beers. I have seen examples of it being mixed with imperial stouts, etc. You could drink it straight but it might bore your taste buds over time. Either way, it's definitely worth a purchase!

Smell is of beautiful fresh raspberries and a touch of malt in the finish. taste is very refreshing, but a tad light, and it crys out for some more tartness. Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

A big four finger head, creamy and soapy, how is that even possible? But there it is with a whipped up soapy pink color, settling slowly. Body is bright red, nearly purple body with some hard to see rising carbonation and nearly opaque. Very impressive.

Nose and bouquet is pure fruit. Raspberry. Jammy. Slightly sweet but not overkill. Really feels like smelling a jam jar. Very little beer like malt/hop/yeast anything coming through but I don't seem to mind.

Palate is rich, and juicy. Thick bodied but without a syrupy feel. Rich density of fruit and mild tartness with a nice balance in sweetness also. Finishes large with a good mix of malt density finally on the end. Raspberry all over, and I can't stop thinking about how jammy this beer tastes, i literally feel like spreading it on toast.

Overall just another impressive solid and fun Founders offering even if it is a bit one dimensional tasting.

Pink head. Color is a dark raspberry purple/pink.

Flavor is dominated by raspberries. Very fruity. A little tart. Very fresh. Some malts show, but not a lot. No hops show. No alcohol.

Mouthfeel: Tart. Light bodied. Decent amount of carbonation. Very clean.

Overall, an enjoyable raspberry beer. Easy to drink. I wouldn't want more than a bottle however, because it is kind of sweet.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, bottled on 6/6/2013. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red color with a 1 finger dense pink head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of huge tart raspberry, raspberry juice, raspberry skin, floral, and light bread. Fantastic aromas with big authentic raspberry notes; and big strength. Exactly what was expected. Taste of big tart raspberry, raspberry juice, raspberry skin, floral, bread, grass, and light floral earthiness. Lingering notes of tart raspberry, raspberry skin, floral bread, grass, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance of raspberry and malt flavors; with nice robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and moderately syrupy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent fruit beer! Great balance and robustness of authentic raspberry flavor; and extremely smooth to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

Definitely one of the best Fruit Beers I have tried. Bright red color with a thick and lasting pink head. Nice coating of lace too. The sweetness that makes a lot of fruit beers too cloying for me seems to be tempered by the higher-than-usual ABV. Super tart raspberry flavoring with a bit of spice and hops. The finish is fruity and bubbly, with a lingering aftertaste of raspberry. I don’t say this often about Fruit Beers but I will surely have this one again.
