Tried this one in Grafton IL with my buddy Joe V.

A - Greyish black in the glass, this one looks like liquid smoke on top of melted tar. That sounds horrid, but I love weird looking brew! This is like some sort of witches brew.

S - Burnt rubber, liquid smoke, doused campfire, and cured meat. This smells extremely interesting... when I ordered this one, I was expecting a barleywine but this is more akin to a rauchbier; albeit with less sausage and jerky notes and more chemical-y smoke aromas. This smells like old wet moldy wood, roofing tar, freshly laid asphalt on a hot summer day. Awesome. I could sniff this for hours.

T - Tobacco, cured ham, Maduro wrapped cigar smoke, some hints of soy sauce, and salmon grilled on a cedar plank. Damn, this is one helluva complex brew!

M - Full bodied, but not as heavy as I would expect for the heavy flavor profile. This is a little too carbonated for what it is, but it feels nice enough.

D - A little too odd to have more than one at a time. This is definitely a weirdo brew for sipping and picking apart all of the crazy rubbery smoke flavors, not pint after pint sessioning.

Founders Crumudgeon Old Ale has a thin, cream-colored head, a clear, brilliant, apricot-orange appearance, some bubble streams, no sediment, and very sparse, spider web lacing left behind. The aroma is of rich, sweet, malt, vanilla/oak, and light rum. Taste is all that, with some good, balancing bitterness and apparent wood. Mouthfeel is rather light and watery, and Founders Curmudgeon Old Ale finishes alcohilic, sweet, and contemplative. The worst one could say about this beer is that it is delicious.

Poured from a 12oz bottle to a snifter.

A: Deep caramel color, small head that dissipates fast. Little visible carbonation. Minimal lacing.

S: Abundant dark notes: molasses, plums, raisins, significant candied sugar.

T: The flavor closely follows the nose. Sweet with hugely present plum, raisin, molasses, candied sugar flavors. Slightly boozy, but not overwhelming.

M: Heavy body, thick on the palate. Slightly carbonated, fades fast. Easy to drink.

O: Excellent example of the style. Unlike many, this is very drinkable, and pleasant, right from the start. Definitely will go in the category to have again. 4s across the board. Well done, thanks of brewing this one for us.
