A - dark amber with a thin, white layer of head that fades quickly

S - caramel, cake batter, sweet, bread, toffee, faint alcohol

T - caramel, bread, fruit, faint bitterness

M - medium to full bodied, smooth, perfectly carbonated

This is a nice, malty beer that is very enjoyable. The malts are very nicely balanced and the bitterness is more like a coffee-like bitterness rather than hop-like. My only disappointment is that the sweetness from the nose didn't follow in the taste. Honestly, that's only because I have a fondness for cake batter sweetness in beers. Ultimately, this is an enjoyable, drinkable beer with a nice flavor profile. It's well worth a try.

Aged 8 months in bottle. I've had this beer fresh and it tasted young w/cloying hop bitterness. Aging for a while seems to help mellow out the hops, balance the beer, and bring out a lot more flavors.

A- Pours a majestic wood-like amber color. off-white head quickly dissipates, although lacing is present.

S- Sweet malt, Vanilla, Dark fruits (prunes), hop floral aroma, bread

T- Taste follows the nose, starting with sweet, cereal-like maltiness fading to flavors of dark fruit, some pear and other fruits. Finishes with a pleasant dry woodsy bitterness.

M- Full-bodied, chewy, almost a syrup like presence left on the tongue.

O- Another great seasonal beer from Founders. A good cellar beer to stock up and age if you have the patience.

Bottled April 2012. Tasted 8 November 2012, reviewed from notes.

Pours a medium dusty amber brown. Can't see through it, but I can see far enough into it to detect some little particles suspended in it. Surprised by that, as I can't remember another Founders beer that had yeast or floaties in it. Half finger of yellowish head, gone fast little lacing. Not the best on appearance.

Smell is malty and rich, full of dark fruit. Slightly smoky. Also has a light alcoholic air.

Taste is definitely in the realm that I'm looking for, but it's not much beyond that. Malty, semi-sweet, and tasty, but lacking real depth. I don't know, I guess I was expecting more from this beer. Alcohol presence was big at first, but faded as it warmed. It reminds me a great barleywine that's had the best of it sucked out.

Medium-heavy body, kinda weighing on my tongue. Medium-low carbonation. Feel is just fine.

This beer is close to being really good, but it's lacking the punch, the depth, the pronounced flavors that I was hoping for. Not bad, but for a big malty beer (which I tend to love), it didn't wow me.
