A - Dark amber with light trails of carbonation trailing upwards; Rather opaque as I can barely see through it and actually find myself looking into my reflection. One can tell that the beer is going to be sticky in the mouth. Had a one finger head but that went down to a bit of foam trailing on the sides and islands of it floating about my snifter

S - loads of caramel malt with hints of dark fruit as well. Definitely get a hint of the alcohol as well. Scents of sweet, orange remind me a bit of grand marnier; actually get a hint of brandied cherries and vanilla as well which just adds a great feeling to this brew;

T - At first, a hint of caramel malt with a hint of brown sugar and cherry; There is a big whiff of spice that just warms you up and tingles your tongue fading away into candied dates; Near the end there is a candied orange peel comes up in the end along with a bit of alcoholic bite; reminds me a bit of a brandied toffee bread pudding with bits of cherries strewn throughout.

M - Actually not too sticky; the mouth feel is rather big and has a nice carbonation to it which really seems to lend itself to the orange peel flavors in the taste; nice warming tingle left on the tongue that matches the flavors of the spice

D - Overall a nice complex sipper. It was rather good but I expected it to be a bit sweeter. I think this would be good with a bit of age on it to let the orange peel die down a bit; it was rather spicy as well and sometimes think that took a bit away from the other flavors. I do like this though, but not my favorite ale. Think it would go well with some ice cream or maybe a brownie.

from the bottle, poured a cloudy brown with a small tan head that left no lacing. aroma just like the description says aged on bourbon barrels and the boubron comes out nice and strong than some sweetness along with the malts couldn’t get anything else out of it after it warms the aroma subsides a bet. flavor, the bourbon was as strong as the aroma which was a could thing, than along came the malts and sweetness got molasses, and some dark fruits became easier to drink when it warmed

A - Deep copper hue but has zero head/lacing. There's a little floating yeast in suspension and no visible carbonation.

S - Ripe with rich caramel, light toast, and a slight alcohol aroma. At the end there are faint hints of hot butter and brown sugar.

T - Dark/brown sugar at first with some alcohol thrown in there. Follows up with a nice biscuit and malt flavor. There is a faint hop taste in the middle but pretty much gets overpowered by all the other flavors. Finishes sweet with a mild alcohol burn.

M/D - Has a medium syrup-like body, flat on the palate from low volumes of carbonation, and finishes sweet. The alcohol flavor complimented with the sweetness and thick-ish body make it a definite sipper but fun to drink.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass at cellar temperature.

L - Medium amber color with a 2-finger bubbly cream-colored head. Really good retention and excellent lacing. Clear with lots of bubbles - more carbonation than I was expecting.

S - Lots going on here. Toasted and caramel malts, molasses, dark fruits like cherries and plums, raisins, and some chocolate, vanilla, and woody aromas. Maybe a touch of alcohol noticeable.

T - Sweet with flavors of caramel malts, dark fruits, molasses and vanilla. Finishes with a woody and alcoholic dryness.

F - Medium-bodied with good carbonation, a creamy and mouth-coating feel, and a very dry, almost astringent finish. Woody dryness lingers and complements the drying and throat-warming sensation brought on by the alcohol.

O - This beer was delicious and an awesome example of an old ale. It tastes and smells great with a variety of malt and dark fruity ester aromas and flavors. The molasses and oak-aging really add a lot of flavors, aromas, and character to this beer in my opinion. Another great offering from Founders.

Got this on tap @ sunset grill and tap in Brighton.

Poured a deep dark brown with a very small head that simmered into almost no lacing

Smelled extremely malty and oak-y. Extreme malt smells, with some hints of alcohol. Hops are practically non-existent

Tastes great. I don't have much experience with Old Ales (save for Ola Dubh), but I'd imagine they would taste very similar to this. Very, very malty...probably caramal malts that have turned into a very unique taste with age....very very woody, oak-y taste dominates the pallate. No hops here. I liked the old flavor very much. It tastes musty-- like an old attic would smell like (if you could imagine). The 10% abv is well-hidden by the way

Mouthfeel was good, a little oily, but I'd imagine thats what the style is supposed to be

drinkability is pretty bad. the beer tastes great, i just could'nt imagine coming back for more....especially at 8.99 a 13ouncer

Overall- I was gonna get this, but at 15 bucks a 4 pack-- I backed off. I had to get it when I saw it on tap. I'd say definitely get it if you see it on tap, but don't bother getting a 4 pack....unless you love old ales...
