2011 version poured into a Duvel tulip. Looks purple coming out of the bottle, settles into a deep, ruby red colored body that lets no light through. About a two-finger head that is mostly pink, but has hints of purple as well. Leaves a smattering of lacing along the glass.
No question, the aroma is predominantly raspberries. Still, a few other notes follow including a little funk from the Belgian yeast and some tartness not necessarily attributable to the raspberries, but bordering on vinegar.
Very tasty blend for sure, and again, an excellent raspberry flavor. A little sweetness perhaps from the berry and malt, and a touch of tartness as well. Not mouth-puckering in the tartness at all, but very well balanced.
Medium mouthfeel and no real notice of the alcohol. This year's version says 9.2% abv, not over 12 as in past years. Superb brew, once again from Founders. They rarely disappoint.
