Poured into a Duvel tulip. Sampled a while back. Bottled 1/7.
A: Hazy gold with some yeast residue. Thin white halo with a little bit of lacing.
S: Pine, musty earth. Pretty muted sadly.
T: Hops have faded I think. Malt is taking over, making it a bit messy. Some sweetness, but it seems less hop forward than last year's.
M: Tingly carbonation that doesn't linger too long.
O: I loved it last year, but just liked it this year. Would have loved a fresher bottle or on tap, but I worked with what I had.

I saw four packs bottled on 6/14 sitting on a case packaged on 7/13. So i lay the four packs aside, open up the case, and pull out a four pack. Goes to show how it pays off to look for dates!!
Poured from a bottle into a snifter at around 40°F
Appearance: Hazy golden color with a very small off white head. Not extremely impressed by the look. But looks are deceiving
Smell: Now this is what I call balanced! One part citrus hops and one part toasted malts.
Taste: Bright citrus grapefruit and pine upfront, toasted malts in the middle, then the citrus and pine again in the finish that lingers on the palate.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied; Low carbonation, smooth with a dry finish.
Overall: I'm becoming more adapt to the straight on fruit bomb IPAs, which this almost is, but not quite. However, it is extremely balanced. So much so that id consider this one of the most balanced IPAs iv had. This is one of those IPAs (and beers in general) that has different aromas and flavors when cold than closer to room temperature. The malt is more prominent when chilled, resulting in a more balanced beer per se, but as it warms, the citrus is where i like it to be with malts playing more in the background. My ratings are based on this being closer to room temperature, which i enjoy more than straight out the fridge. However, this is not up there with my absolute favorites in the style, but I highly recommend it for someone who enjoys a well balanced IPA. LET THIS ONE WARM UP! Cheers!!
