Pours a bright golden straw color, small froth head that disappears quickly leaving some chunky lacing.
The smell is potent, soapy pine and orange pith. The pine is more of a fruity mango pine than a pinesol, which is a good thing. A generous dose of alcohol is also apparent here.
The forefront of the taste is a resinous wallop of gooey pine along with bitter orange. The malty backbone withers underneath the crushing load of heavily bittering hops, that is a good thing here. I don't think a smaller dose would work as well to cover the 9.4%, the booze and hops play a symphony on the taste buds.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and the fair amount of carbonation works hard to break up any syrupy feeling this brew wants to show.
Overall, this one is a creeper. The almost 10% could go to work on you easily if your not careful, heavy flavors and high ABV would make this hard to run a marathon with, but that's exactly what I wanted out of this brew.

Tasted July 25th 2011 (from review)
Poured into a la Chouffe tulip
A - pale straw, half finger white head and some lacing
S - very sweet, tons of citrus, lots of tropical fruits and flowers, very sweet, lots of malt, slight pungent yeast and all around awesomeness
T - super hoppy, lots of sugar, tons of fruit, grass, yeast, wheat, nice sweet malt, boozey but not to boozey, very slight MJ note. Very simple but tons of flavor
M - Full bodied, excellent balance, simple complexity, medium acidity and a very nice almost perfect hop, malt and sugary booze finish
D/O - This is the kind of beer that makes me want all beers to be readily available all over the America's! One of the better DIPA's I have had and most definitely makes founders worth the "hype"
Final Thoughts - at 9+ ABV this beer kicks it into gear and is one of the better DIPA's. Still, not being easy to obtain, make this beer obnoxiously awesome!
