Poured from a stubby brown 12 oz. bottle into a standard pint glass.

Appearance: Cloudy golden color with a thick foamy two-finger white head that fades slowly and leaves great sticky lacing and a frothy white cap that lasted throughout.

Smell: Deep musky green hops aroma with a nice pine and citrus profile beneath. Little or no malt detected.

Taste: The first sip is a bitter blast of hops, as you would expect from a Double Imperial IPA, but it gives way to a smooth and robust flavor that brings a little malt and a good alcohol burn (but at nearly 10% ABV, the alcohol isn't too strong tasting). Gets a little smoother and the hops get a little more complex as the beer warms. A very nice Double IPA.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, lower carbonation and slick. A little different than most IPA's, but in a good way.

Drinkability: A four pack of this (which is how I bought it) is perfect for a session. Six might be too many, three would leave you wanting more. Just right. I will definitely look for this one again when I'm in the mood for a hoppy Double IPA...which is right now, so I'm going to have another.

Another DIPA at near 10%. Frankly, I prefer my beers at the 6-7% range, as the 50% increase in alcohol loses as much as it gains.

Appearance: Not much retention and only a bit of lace. I expect a DIPA to look rich and sticky. Not much carbonation, but that's ok, it's wine-like.

Smell: Grassy hops, oily, resinous, with rind of grapefruit and pineapple, and brown sugar.

Taste: Too sugary and candy like? Oily with with the grapefruit and pineapple almost coated in sugar and a bit cloying, after the swallow, the finish is pungent and resinous. Despite the sugar and alcohol, almost as complex as a grand-marnier or after-dinner drink and just as warming.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied and sticky, with low carbonation; almost brandy like, with warmth and buzz on the tongue.

Overall: Sweeter and more liquor like that other DIPAs, a great winter beer, or last one of the night - so long as you need not drive, it's bitter, resinous and cloying.

pours golden straw yellow with thin white head. alcohol legs present.

smells of citrus, some pine very forward . in yo face hopsilicious and so inviting.

taste = bam. upfront bitter citrus, grapefruit, hoppy goodness. biscuity crystal malts , perfectly balanced with the high alcohol and bitterness. moderate mouthfeel. slight warm alcohol taste. finish is quit lovely with nice sugary grapefruit bitterness lingering.

I love this beer. One of the best DIPAS out there and one of the reasons I rank Founders in the top 10 Breweries in the Country.

A-Clear golden color with a small white head
S-pine resin aroma with a orange smell coming in heavy
T-hop taste with the orange background that turns into a pine resin aftertaste that does not fade from you taste buds.
M-medium body and low carbonation
O-it was an outstanding flavor and smell. The hops was strong, but the alcohol was well hidden

Appearance- Light golden color, small head.

Smell- Very delicate smell for a double IPA. Hints of citrus and light hop aroma.

Taste- Delicate floral subtleties atop a finish of grapefruit and pill bitterness. Not my favorite flavor profile, but it's good for what it is. Seems to have a very light malt profile, barely detectable. Still than Centennial.

Mouthfeel- Good carbonation, drinks quite light for a double.

Pours with an amber/gold color. Small head with good lacing.

Smells like citrus. Lots of grapefruit on the nose. Some floral notes. Maybe even some slight honey?

Not as hop forward as I was expecting. The taste begins with a slight maltiness that I didn't expect from a double IPA, which subdues. Hops take over and provide a nice bitterness. Getting some herb flavor with lingering hops.

Almost a creamy mouthfeel. Thicker than most IPA's I've had. Still very good though.

I was surprised by the subdued hops, and actually enjoyed the slight maltiness. The thought occurred to me to maybe age one... but it is an IPA...

Overall a good beer.
