It pours a slightly hazy and surprisingly bright Wit yellow. A finger of loose white head dinks and dunks to a fine frothy aureole. EKGs of lacing pulsate on the inside of the glass.

The aroma delivers a citrus melange of orange, lemon, and grapefruit, along with a patter of pine. The malt is taxed by the hops, but a light caramel toast joins a warm waft of alcohol.

Upon sipping, the hops again take the lead as crispy grapefruit, mandarin orange, and needly pine dry the landscape. Insistently, sweet pineapple morphs into a light caramel malt and biscuit duo. Alcohol seems proud to crane its sinewy neck. Residual grain sprinkles some sweetness before the hops reassert and deliver a diligent dry bitterness that turns arid and dusty in the finish. A well developed hop profile capably holds sway here.

Medium bodied, it's flowing and creamy, while the oily resins leave a crisp glow.

On first impression it's hop-centric, but the malt ends up propping the bitterness despite an real pretense to balance. It ends up with something for everybody, and the big ABV seems to just be along for the ride, so it's nicely drinkable, if worthy of caution. Subtlety wins out over blunt force in this case, a nice turn of events.

Another DIPA at near 10%. Frankly, I prefer my beers at the 6-7% range, as the 50% increase in alcohol loses as much as it gains.

Appearance: Not much retention and only a bit of lace. I expect a DIPA to look rich and sticky. Not much carbonation, but that's ok, it's wine-like.

Smell: Grassy hops, oily, resinous, with rind of grapefruit and pineapple, and brown sugar.

Taste: Too sugary and candy like? Oily with with the grapefruit and pineapple almost coated in sugar and a bit cloying, after the swallow, the finish is pungent and resinous. Despite the sugar and alcohol, almost as complex as a grand-marnier or after-dinner drink and just as warming.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied and sticky, with low carbonation; almost brandy like, with warmth and buzz on the tongue.

Overall: Sweeter and more liquor like that other DIPAs, a great winter beer, or last one of the night - so long as you need not drive, it's bitter, resinous and cloying.

pours golden straw yellow with thin white head. alcohol legs present.

smells of citrus, some pine very forward . in yo face hopsilicious and so inviting.

taste = bam. upfront bitter citrus, grapefruit, hoppy goodness. biscuity crystal malts , perfectly balanced with the high alcohol and bitterness. moderate mouthfeel. slight warm alcohol taste. finish is quit lovely with nice sugary grapefruit bitterness lingering.

I love this beer. One of the best DIPAS out there and one of the reasons I rank Founders in the top 10 Breweries in the Country.

A-Clear golden color with a small white head
S-pine resin aroma with a orange smell coming in heavy
T-hop taste with the orange background that turns into a pine resin aftertaste that does not fade from you taste buds.
M-medium body and low carbonation
O-it was an outstanding flavor and smell. The hops was strong, but the alcohol was well hidden
