Bottle poured into a Founders snifter. Bottle date 4/6/13, enjoyed 4/16/13.
Pour: Completely clear bright orange with two fingers of soapy, frothy, creamy colored head. Lots of lacing, and the head recedes to a few bubbles after a few minutes.
Smell: Big tropical fruits (papaya, mango, pineapple), lots of pine, and a touch of floral hops. No sweetness to speak of on the nose.
Taste: Lots of the tropical fruits, and an even greater pine than mentioned on the nose. A lot more sweetness in the form of a heavy honey comes through on the taste, but it doesn't distract from the massive hop profile. As it warms, it becomes a tad boozy, which dropped the score here.
Mouthfeel: A rather big beer, but very drinkable. Definitely just the right amount of bitterness, which lingers in the just the right way. However, by the end of the glass, the alcohol really starts to pierce through the rest of this beer, and it becomes quite hot. If it drank consistently through the glass, easily would have scored a 4.5 here.
Overall: I'm really impressed with this beer fresh. Delicious, but just a bit too much alcohol.

served from bottle, slightly over a month old.
pours a hazy straw-yellow. small rocky head that dissipates and clings to side of glass.
smells of pungent hops, cannabis, pine, and tropical notes with citrus (this beer is brewed with Summit, Simcoe and Amarillo hops)
front of the tongue has a big wallop of bitterness that quickly transitions to a pungent, dank taste - the sort of typical Simcoe taste. follows with a nice sweetness, citrus and tropical notes, slightly sugary. really well balanced!
overall, this is a great DIPA. great representation of the style, and this brew is incredibly balanced between pungent bitterness and sweeter notes.
