Looks decent. Somewhat pale amber in colour, fairly clear, and mildly effervescent. Good head retention, although a fairly vigorous pout only gave one finger's worth of tight, white head. Excellent, sticky lacings gradually break down from sheets to leave an intricate web inside the glass.
A decent nose of tropical fruit greets the nose. Not overpowering, but papaya, apricot and citrus, nectarine and grapefruit are there in solid amounts. Not much coming from the malts, but a honeylike sweetness and hints of caramel and biscuit are present over the mainly bready malts.
Almost an aspirin type bitterness, the tropical aromas dont come through as strongly in the flavour, but elements of pine and grapefruit come through more cleanly, with a mildly resinous quality. The malts are more straightforward and as described above.
Almost medium bodied, and fairly balanced for a IIPA. Dont get me wrong, this is a hoppy brew that is almost resinous and mildly stripping.
Pretty drinkable considering the ABV. The alcohol is fairly well hidden, but for its warming effect. This is a solid IIPA, but is not knocking my socks off either. It may serve as a good introduction to the style, as it isnt too extreme. But as far as looks go this one is top notch. Ill likely be drinking this one again, especially considering at roughly 10 bucks a four pack it is reasonably priced.
