From a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. Bottling date reads "1/6/2012" (consumed on 2/5).
Appearance: When put in the light, this beer appears a mild straw color with a little bit of cloudiness in the body. A standard pour produces a light white head which quickly fades to a thin ring of surface lacing. Very few carbonation bubbles skirt through this brew. This time through the beer, there's virtually no lacing left behind on the glass. The ring of surface lacing fades away about halfway through the drink. 4.5/5
Smell: A beautiful pine and citrus bouquet compose the nose. Bright orange, tangerine, bitter grapefruit pack a strongly aromatic punch without being pungent. Lovely. 5/5
Taste: Starts with a jab of bitterness with grapefruit, orange, and pineapple. It's strong on the piney resin. Bitterness rides the wave of each sip and sticks around for awhile in the aftertaste. However, the bitterness is never overwhelming - it's just right. Citrus textures flesh out the hoppiness beautifully. Just a bit of malt crispness balances this one out to keep it sane, but it's really hops all the way. Marvelous. 4.75/5
Mouthfeel: Double Trouble turns out to be fairly light and easy drinking for a double IPA. It's a bit more carbonated than I expected based on appearance; it turns out just right. The bitterness creates a desirable dry spot, just enough resistance to prevent over-imbibing. 4.5/5
Overall: Founders, as they so often do, win the battle here again for me. Hopslam is great, but Double Trouble takes things to just higher a level with the full aromatics, juicy flavor, and just a bit of resistance in the mouthfeel. Love, as always. 5/5

Tasted July 25th 2011 (from review)
Poured into a la Chouffe tulip
A - pale straw, half finger white head and some lacing
S - very sweet, tons of citrus, lots of tropical fruits and flowers, very sweet, lots of malt, slight pungent yeast and all around awesomeness
T - super hoppy, lots of sugar, tons of fruit, grass, yeast, wheat, nice sweet malt, boozey but not to boozey, very slight MJ note. Very simple but tons of flavor
M - Full bodied, excellent balance, simple complexity, medium acidity and a very nice almost perfect hop, malt and sugary booze finish
D/O - This is the kind of beer that makes me want all beers to be readily available all over the America's! One of the better DIPA's I have had and most definitely makes founders worth the "hype"
Final Thoughts - at 9+ ABV this beer kicks it into gear and is one of the better DIPA's. Still, not being easy to obtain, make this beer obnoxiously awesome!
