Poured into a 5.5 taster glass from a Founders tasting @ Tavern on Liberty in Allentown.
A: Pours a bright, clear golden with a pretty good white head (for the glass size).
S: Citrusy hop bouquet followed by some malt to balance the hops a bit.
T: Beginning with citrus flavors, this brew quickly shifts to the sweet malts and goes back and forth between the malts and a pretty high level of hop bitterness.
M: Light body, great carbonation, and a smooth finish.
O: Great double IPA, top 5 for me at the very least, and I've finally been able to try it on tap to confirm that. The balance from the malts is the key to making this beer as good as it is.

12oz bottle, dated 6.13.2014, poured into a Founders KBS snifter.
The beer pours a nice copper color, hues of gold and orange, very clear complexion with a soft, cloudy, white head that has moderate retention and leaves only a few spots of lace behind. The aroma is abrasive, big hoppy grapefruit peel, piney resin and sappiness with strong alcohol. It's pretty blunt and not very intriguing. The flavors are a bit better, strong piney hops, light wildflower, grapefruit peel, balanced well, but those enjoyable hops don't last long as fusel alcohol and light sticky malt takes over and punishes the tongue. The mouthfeel is nice, it coats the tongue well, carbonation is mild and feels nice, finishes easily and very dry.
Verdict: A less than impressive DIPA from Founders, just way too boozy and abusive. The hop profile is nice but just gets strongly overpowered by the alcohol character which overpowers the malt which could provide a much nicer counterbalance. Just too intense for me.

A: Beautiful bright golden orange color. Half finger of head. Lots of tiny floaties which I like in my hopped up ales. Decent lacing. Swirling the glass brings back some of the head.
S: Aroma is a very strong resinous hop profile of citrus, pine, and tropical fruit. It is bright and juicy on the nose.
T: Reminds me much of Stone Enjoy By. Awesome hop character which follows the nose exactly. Super balanced between the bitter finish and the sweetness of the malt.
MF: Decent. I could use a bit more carb. Doesn't coat my mouth the way I would like, but I don't really hint the alcohol which is nice.
O: Definitely in the caliber of Enjoy By, Dirt Wolf and Hopslam in my opinion. This one is excellent for a brewery that is more known for its stouts.
