A. Pours a pale straw gold. One finger of loose white bubbly head.

S. Hard to find many better than this. Tropical citrus, pineapple, tangerine, and orange. Damp pine sap becomes more apparent as it warms. Some fresh bread crust from the malt. Mostly tropical though. Outstanding.

T. Candied orange, pineapple, and a pretty good dose of pine needles. Some light herbal character and fairly strong astringency from the hops and booze. Booze is a little stronger than I would prefer, but that is perhaps the only thing off about this. And it's minor. Really good tropical hop profile that blends nicely with assertive caramel malts.

M. Medium bodied with a lot of carbonation. Long lasting bitter finish that tastes like pinecone dusted with grapefruit rind.

O. Pound for pound this is one of the best DIPAs around. Considering the availability, I am surprised we dont hear more about this one. I much prefer it to Hopslam. Between this and Harvest Ale, Founders is knocking this style out of the park.

Appearance: It pours a clear gold with white head. You wouldn't think this beer is 9.4% by looking at it.

Smell: Malt, citrus, pine. Not much sweetness in the smell.

Taste: Loads of citrus and a bit of malt with a good amount of pine. A lot of double IPAs have a sweetness but this one is nice and crisp.

Overall: This is a great double IPA! You wouldn't really think by tasting or looking at this beer that its 9.4% although you'll start feeling it by the end of the bottle. Another excellent beer from one of the best breweries this country has to offer: Founders.

I had double the fun with a nonic pint glass.

Appearance- A very stiff finger’s width of bright white foam holds well atop the hazy gold body. The fluff did not recede until I took my first drink. A few lines of a darker amber grace the side of the glass.

Smell- The nose on this beer is strong! Gobs of grapefruit and passion fruit are easily recognized. What really kicks this nose up a notch are the peppery notes and earthy stank. The malt is barely present, but it smells of caramel.

Taste- The palate loses some of the citrus, but retains a hint of passion fruit in the middle and end of the drink. The peppery quality of the nose is amplified here and carries all the way through the drink.

That grassy dank quality is also very present. I also am very pleased with the bitterness of the beer. It is so large in the finish it produces a resiny feel. My teeth enamel have not eroded off, but they certainly felt the kick.

Mouth feel- The feel is definitely affected by the bitterness of this beer, but I cannot help but like it all the more for it. It is rather smooth over the tongue and has a great medium body.

Overall- The beer smells amazing, but the citrus qualities of Double Trouble get a little buried on the palate by the strong herbal and piney qualities of the palate.

The bitterness of the beer is spot on, and will make any true hop head very pleased. Enjoy!

The first beer I've had from Founders, thank you for entering the Des Moines market!

On tap at el Bait Shop. A pretty orange color with plenty of foam. Even with my allergies going crazy I can still smell the fruity hops and a touch of pine. The taste is just fantastic. Lots of citrus, with some grape and pine. It seems just a tad on the earthy side. It finishes with some lingering tartness, and you start ot feel the alcohol about 1/2 way through the glass. I'd say it's comparable to Hopslam but it's available for more than 2 weeks of the year.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Sampled a while back. Bottled 1/7.

A: Hazy gold with some yeast residue. Thin white halo with a little bit of lacing.

S: Pine, musty earth. Pretty muted sadly.

T: Hops have faded I think. Malt is taking over, making it a bit messy. Some sweetness, but it seems less hop forward than last year's.

M: Tingly carbonation that doesn't linger too long.

O: I loved it last year, but just liked it this year. Would have loved a fresher bottle or on tap, but I worked with what I had.

This beer pours a hazy, semi-transparent golden with an average white head. Strongly hoppy aroma has a hint of evergreen. Powerful hoppy flavor has firm tones of evergreen and grapefruit, quite sour. Lively, fizzy texture has firm body and is quite pleasing.

Pours a slightly cloudy orange with a nice white head that lingers and laces.

Smells of tropical fruit, some caty-ness, and pine. A nice mix of hop character and a big aroma.

Up front bitter fruit, stone fruit that goes into more of the same in the middle with a citric/orange character that ends with notes of pine and grapefruit and lingering bitterness. Has lighter fruit notes and a heavy/pine bitterness with just enough malt to balance.

Medium to heavy body with medium carbonation work well enough. It is noticeably warm and bitter...making it seem not as refined as some of the better DIPAs.

A good DIPA that hits a lot of the great hop flavors, minus citra overload, but it is heavy and highly drinkable. Not that that is a bad thing, but it is different from a lot of more quaffable DIPAs. I like it and would get it again.
