Drank from a bottle, mostly.

A - beautiful shade of light gold, reminiscent of early fall foliage or a great tasting apple. Head comes out of nowhere, dissipates quickly

S - typical of an Ale. Slightly above average.

T - very light, fruity - but easily recognizable in apples, an unripe mango, lemon. Some hops

M - very very good, high smooth carbonation, very drinkable and alcohol content masked very well.

O - a pleasure to drink, highly recommend

Bottled on Date 01/23/12, Poured into DFH Tulip 02/25/12

A: Golden amberBody, Cloudy, aggressive pour yields 1" head recedes to a modest cap, copious lacing

N: very citric, pineapple dominates, but other citrus fruits also present, notes of pine, resinous

T: not as impressive as the nose, touch of malt sweetness on the front end, huge citrus-pine follows, with a touch of heat on the back end, I don't get the huge pineapple flavor that the nose promised, which back this score up a half a point, still tasty

M: not as full as you expected given the ABV and the huge flavors, pretty light and very drinkable

O: an excellent DIPA from Founders, doesn't quite reach the level of Hopslam and other top tier DIPAS imo, but its in a class right below them, Founders def. knows their way around a hop addition or two (or three or four)

Pours amber color with one fingered white head.

Smell is heavily citrus (grapefruit and lemon)

Taste follows the smell closely. Lots of hoppy grapefruit. Heavy bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is dry with medium carbonation.

Overall this was good. Not my favorite style but good.

Glowing golden body with a healthy dose of creamy white head, sticking to every corner of the glass. (Yeah, my glass has corners).

Juicy citrus and mango, really bright. Much more fragrant than I remember.

In IIPA terms, this is incredibly balanced. Bittersweet citrus qualities, earthy pine, a touch of alcohol warmth. Really just an awesome beer I think.

Poured into a snifter on 2/23/12.

Appearance: Poured a hazy golden orange color with visible carbonation bubbles. About one inch of foam settled down to the top of the body quickly.

Smell: Pine aroma along with some less pronounced citrus notes. Hoppy, but not jumping out of the glass like some DIPA hopbombs.

Taste: Initial caramel malt flavor is overtaken by the piney hops. Citrus flavors came out more as it warmed, with a dry and bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel and average carbonation. Dry finish and minimal alcohol tasted.

Overall: A good DIPA that is not quite in the top tier for the style.

A- Golden yellow beer. Hazy. 2 fingers of great looking white head on top. As the head settles it takes on the appearance of sea foam but it is the purest of white. Slow rising bubbles trickle up from the base of the glass. Lacing is actually a little lacking on this one. But I don't mind.

S- Wonderful citrus hop aroma. Has a softness to it. Really well balanced.

T- Sweet citrus flavor with a malty back bone. This is like an ongoing battle between malts and hops. You start of with the sweet citrus flavor of the hops that blends into the malt flavor. The malts give of a touch of caramel flavor. But then after the malt clears out the hop bite back with a touch of bitterness on the finish. Long finish just lingers forever.

M- Creamy full body, smooth, and nicely balanced.

O- You get a great sweetness from the multiple hops in this but you still get that nice bitterness from the hops on the finish. Wonderfully balanced beer. Get one now.

Hazy, cloudy golden yellow with almost a finger of head. Adequate lacing. Decent retention. Looks good, if a little light in color for a DIPA.

Whoo-hoo! Luscious hop aromatics , really citrus, mingled with malts, fruits and some banana. Very nice balance on the nose. A real delight and a sure preview of what's to follow in the mouth.

WAABAMM!!! Dittos, the flavors are right on par with what the nose previewed, and then some. Really sweet citrus, some tropical fruits with solid malt characters. The hops really shine in this one. Nice light dryness there, also. But not overly so. For those who like the citrus flavors in their IPAs, you will love this. Alcohol well-hidden.

Body is rather medium for a beer heavy on flavor and alcohol. Appropriate carbonation levels.

This is a solid Double/Imperial IPA, a true hophead's orgasm. Recommend. I hope I will be able to get it more often.

Surprisingly, I don't see a bottle date, but I'm quite sure this is a fresh bottle. Decanted into a brandy snifter.

Lovely orange-yellow color with the slightest bit of suspended yeast/hop haze. I did a pretty good job keeping it a clean pour. A meager half and inch of head formed at the end of the pour, comprised of loose bubbles that didn't pop before falling. Looks like I added a few drops of Palmolive to a flat beer. Nice leggy foam stick around the sides.

Big hop nose. Full of tart grapefruit, lemon peel, and wildflowers. Husky grain aromas rise from the glass, also. There's wafting alcohol present.

Very dry and hoppy. Leafy hop cones with a sterilizing bitterness come at you with tart citrus flavors, some solventy esters, and a complex floral note. Lemon Pledge, grapefruit volatiles, green leaf herbs, jasmine tea, and husky grain. A clean undercurrent of booze sidelines the expansive flavor profile quite nicely. It would be a serious crime to drink this one from the bottle, although, I saw someone doing just that last night. It's a 'sip, stop, and think' kind of beer. Too much to possibly miss out on.

Decently fizzy on the tongue with noticeable alcohol as it warms. Smooth-bodied and dry all throughout. A tad too dry for my liking.

For not having some chew to the body and a lack of sweetness for balance, I'll knock a half-point. Still a killer brew and strongly recommended for hopheads all around.

Pours a yellow-orange with a very small white head that fades quickly. Smell is all citrus and hops, grapefruit, pineapple, almost mango, with floral hops and sweetness. The taste has a nice hop kick at the beginning with a hint of bitterness. The citrus is present from start to finish with another hop kick in the aftertaste. Grapefruit flavors stand out as well in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is ok, could be a bit smoother, but still a nice medium mouthfeel, giving you a "chewing on hops" feel. Overall a great beer, lots of flavor complexity, lots going on here wrapped into a really tasty beer. Definitely a hop lovers delight.

Poured in to 16oz Funky Buddha Snifter

A-shiny bright golden color, with thin lacey white head, probably because of aggressive pour.

S- very citric, pineapple, grapefruit aromas. Great smell coming off this beer.

T- very smooth grapefruit flavor with a nice hoppy bite at the end. Does not attack your palate, easy drinking when compared to other DIPA'S.

M- nice weight with medium carbonation. Easy drinker for sure.

O-top five DIPA for me. Really smooth with a wonderful hop aroma and flavor. Great beer by Founders, of course.

Bottle poured into a tulip glass. Been looking forward to trying this.

A- pours a deep golden color, with some very frothy, foamy head that went away leaving some mild lacing. After completion of beer, you can see all the levels on the glass the beer was at after each drink.

S- Hoppy grapefruit. Citrus and Floral notes. Very pleasant.

T- Grapefruit upfront. Very balanced beer. The citrus is the major player here. Crisp.

M- Good carbonation. Flavor kind of stick around awhile. Light body.

O- Very refreshing. Glad I bought a 4 pack.

Living right outside of Grand Rapids Michigan, all I drink these days seems to be Founders. I LOVE this beer!
Double Trouble is the harshest beer I have had yet from Founders or anyone else for that matter. That is not a knock on this beer as you can tell from my rating of it. I started microbrews with Founders, and they are so flavorful, that most other brands just seem so weak.
If you like flavor to the MAX and love IPA's, give Double Trouble a whirl. It being the only "Double IPA" I have tried yet, it is exactly what I would imagine one being. It seems like double the taste of a Founders Centennial IPA.
Very high carbonation content, with a hint of citrus. This beer fits me to a T!
