Appearance - Pours a dark, rustic brown with a sandstone colored half-finger head which dissipates quickly, leaving a broken, webbed layer of suds on the surface. Lacing is small and spotty, with little stick.
Smell - Predominant bourbon aroma, backed by a subtle caramel undertone. Hints of chocolate come through as the brew warms.
Taste - Deep caramel flavor upfront and throughout, with notes of chocolate and traces of roast. Fair amounts of bourbon heat and flavor seep through mid-taste and ride out into the finish, which is a touch astringent.
Mouthfeel - Medium in body with low carbonation. Quickly thins, leaving a bone dry finish with slight burn and a warming sensation.
Overall - Hmm. Not crazy about this beer. I just don't think a Wee Heavy has enough strong flavor and complexity to withstand the Bourbon Barrel Aging process... at least for me. Too much prominent bourbon influence for me to truly enjoy.
