Poured from the stubby bottle into a standard pint.
Deep mahogony, with slivers of red and orange when the light shines through. Just a bit of thin head at the pour, but hardly any retention, save the whispy ring around the top. Very little lacing to follow.
Great on the nose - hints of dark fruits, vanilla, burnt sugar, and a bit of alcohol are prevalent. It's kind of like barleywine-lite.
That's tasty, and not for the meek of mouth. Heavy dark fruits, lots of vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, and a touch of smokiness are the highlights, but somebody else could probably list another 20 flavors - it seems like one of those beers that everybody would find something different. The only negative is that the alcohol is apparent.
Good in the mouth - sweet and settles on the tongue with just a bit of spice to close.
Highly drinkable, if only for enjoying after a big dinner - great to warm the insides on a cold winter day.
