12oz bottle (bottled 10/5/2012) into a tulip. Pours a murky mahogany brown with a thin khaki head, quickly just a thin collar of foam around the sides of the glass. Lazy carbonation.

Aroma is big bourbon and brown sugar, toffee, candied yams and spices. More booze in the aroma as it warms.

Taste is sugary sweet blended with bourbon. More brown sugar and toffee, caramel, spice, and sweet dried figs and dates. Just a touch of chocolate. All the flavors are well-integrated and work together.

Mouthfeel is heavy and thick, chewy. Moderate carbonation keeps it from being syrupy.

Overall a sweet, boozy, heavy beast of a beer, but not quite a barleywine. Very tasty.

A this pours a murky and cloudy chestnut brown. The head is non existent after an aggressive pour into a snifter. A thin cap rounds the glass throughout. No lacing.

S. bourbon, molasses, figs, vanilla, woody, brown sugar.

T. Heavy malts, caramel, bourbon, oaky, smokey, warming alcohol.

O. Extremely well done limited release from founders. I had a hard time getting my hands on a four pack but I'm glad that i did. It gets better and better as it comes to room temp. The complexity and flavor that is crafted from the oak aging is spot on.
This is a perfect brew to warm your soul on a winter afternoon.

Bottled 9/28/2012. Poured into a tulip style glass.

Pours a very, very dark brown like coca cola with a small head that goes away very fast. There's a wonderful bourbon aroma emanating from the glass, along with molasses - it kind of smells like shoofly pie. There's some maltiness to back it up, but mostly bourbon. It's quite sweet on the toungue with more delicious bourbon and also a dryer oakyness that comes along afterward. Nice creamy texture and just a slight bitterness. This is one of my favorite offerings from Founders and it seems to mellow out slightly while holding up very well after almost a year in the cellar.
