This is an update, so I will keep this brief

Loved this beer fresh, but now that it is pushing a year old, I think I like it more! The bourbon barrel is there, but its a more blended and subdued flavor. The heat is completely gone and notes of vanilla and caramel are brought to the forefront.

Bottle date: 09/28/12. Served in FFF Teku.

A: Pours a hazy deep caramel with a minuscule head that fizzles out immediately leaving trace amounts of lacing.

S: Huge vanilla, caramel, fig, and prune up. Subtle bourbon and wood after a few more whiffs. Lots of sticky dark fruits.

T: More vanilla, caramel, and hints of bourbon up front. As it warms on the tongue, the dark fruits begin to revel themselves, with hints of biscuit and leather. Finishes with a subtle bitter bite, and a maple sweetness. Not matching the nose in intensity, but still very nice.

M: Heavy and sticky. Perfect for the style.

O: I would have liked to have to have a bit more out of the taste, as the nose was superb. BA scotch ales are hard to do, and founders definitely pulled it off with this one. Probably one of my favorite Founders brews.
