Had on tap at the dilly deli. Served in a great lakes snifter.

A- dark ruby mahogany with a minimal beige cap that is slithering away to a wispy thin skim. I like this look but I could use a little more body in the head.

S- first thing that comes to mind is vanilla as you really put your nose in the glass you can start to pick up some wood and very slight cherry. Intoxicating

T- lot more complex than the nose. Caramel toffee mixes beautifully with the vanilla and wood. Alcohol shows it head to add some kick to the finish. Great.

M- suprisingly light for all of the strong flavors. Perfect carbonation that has the perfect feel on the tongue. Maybe perfect

Overall a fabulous beer. Huge flavors that you are prepared for by the aroma wafting out of the glass. Then it lives up to the anticipation with expertly executed tastes and mouthfeel.

On tap, 9oz snifter.

A - Gorgeous deep red pour, with a surprisingly light brown head. Great looking beer. Lacing is solid.

S - Absolutely one of the best smelling beers out there. It's a home-run of aromas. Huge bourbon notes, big maltiness, hops are present but take a bit of a back seat. Vanilla and woody notes from the barrel are the stars.

T - Big bourbon notes with a great base malt flavor. This really is a great beer. The notes I get are closer to BCBS than KBS, which is pretty interesting. What can I say? Bourbon, malt, vanilla and wood. Perfect.

M - Thick and chewy, but not annoyingly so. Perfect thickness for the style and coats very nicely. Carbonation is perfect, but I'm having this on tap so your mileage may vary.

O - Just outstanding. I don't dabble into this style often, but this beer is one I'll always drink when I see it. Founders doesn't mess around with their barrels.

From the November 2011 release. Poured into a DFH Signature glass.

A - Pours a really dark red. In the light you can see the red, but it is very dark out of the light. Not much head that dissipates really quickly. Not much lacing. If you look at this in the light it is a beautiful beer.

S - Smells like straight bourbon. Not purely alcohol, but just like it's bourbon without all the alcohol. There's a great smelling sweetness in there that goes really well with the bourbon character. I wish this beer was year round just for the smell.

T - It is just like bourbon with some great sweet malt character. Dirty Bastard has nothing on this beer. The aging in bourbon barrels makes this a unique and amazing beer.

M - I detracted a little because it isn't very drinkable. It's a slow sipper and there is some alcohol burn and taste to it. It's very smooth and exceptional though.

O - This is a bourbon lover's beer. If I drink hard liquor, it's only good bourbon or scotch, and this would be a great substitute. Barely any burn from the alcohol, a great sweet malt backbone to complement the bourbon flavors, and the hit of pure bourbon flavor make this an amazing beer. I highly recommend to anyone, especially someone who enjoys bourbon/whiskey/scotch.

Received in trade from barak316, thanks for the opportunity.
Pours a slightly murky reddish brown with a tiny off white head that never really musters, but never fully dissipates either. Smells of sweet caramel and brown sugar with lots of dark fruit and oak and bourbon. The smell is heavenly really. Taste is as sweet as advertised but have enough bourbon warmth to keep is slightly balanced. Lots of dark sugars and dark fruits round out the flavor nicely. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet sugary almost syrupy mouthfeel. I enjoyed the heck out of this beer! I only wish it were a little easier to obtain.

Pours a dark walnut color with a thin lace of off-white bubbles. The bottle doesn't need to tell you this is aged in bourbon barrels -- the nose is like diving headfirst into some of the strong stuff, with hotly burning alcohol and vanilla caramel. In the mouth, it's more bourbon up front, with a nice peaty malt backbone.

But this is all about the bourbon. It burns pleasantly on the way down and leaves you feeling warm.

2011 vintage from a 12oz. bottle

A - Looks like a coca-cola in color with an off white one finger head. Not an aggressive pour, so minimal lacing.

S - Oddly enough... Reminds me of bourbon & coke. It has a forward bourbon smell with a malty backbone. Brown sugar, vanilla and syrup can be caught as well.

T - The ABV is very noticeable, but I love it! It's sweet and roasted malts at first followed by a finish of bourbon and vanilla flavors.

M - Well carbonated and coats the palette, but almost on the thin side.

O - Along with beer, I'm a huge bourbon lover. This is like the best of both words! Some might find it too boozy, but it's just right for me.

12oz bottle, 2011 vintage. Poured into a Darkness tulip.

A - Pours darker brown in color, light white head, super-thin ring, and otherwise that's about it.

S - Burnt sugars, maple, caramel, booze, oak, toasted bready malts, some sweet syrup. A lot of booze and sweetness, but not overly sweet. Smells like a stiff cocktail.

T - Similar to the nose. Sweet, boozy, nice oak, bready toasted malts. Again, reminds me of a boozy cocktail of some sorts. Bourbon and light dark fruity sweetness, caramel. Really solid, but still boozy and needs a bit of time.

M - Medium body, good carbonation, creamy booze finish.

O - A nice BA Wee Heavy, but could use a bit more body and needs some time to smooth out. At this point, pretty boozy and not really something I can drink much of. Decent.
