Pours a golden orange color with a two finger rocky white head. Aroma is pine and grapefruit, pretty classic cascade aroma. Taste is more of the same with pine, light grapefruit. Mouthfeel is thin to medium and a touch drying. Overall a nice pale ale that is plenty drinkable and well made.

Had this on nitro. A tad unnecessary, but good baguette aftertaste.

Very simple, good lacing. Cant tell the head I had it nitro. Average malts, honestly. Ok for bar, not ok for real enjoyment. 2.8

PS., citrusly smell but failed.

Founder’s has some great brews and this pale ale has a mild 5.4% ABV, but looks like it is quite a tasty variety so let’s take a gulp.

Look-It pours a clear amber gold with a copper hue and some dark golden overtones. The head is a thin film that reminds me of a yeasty foam.

Smell-It has a muted aroma unfortunately, but it is pleasantly malt forward with a tinge of honey and citrus.

Taste-The malts are present on at first and are caramel, honey, and toasted malts with a decent hop backbone. I get citrus and some grass notes.

Mouthfeel-It feels medium-bodied and smooth. There is a spiciness to it also. The coating on the tongue is resinous and oily.

Overall-It is a pale ale after all, so I’ll go easy on this one, but at the same time I have had a couple other pale ales that were much better. That being said, this was well balanced and refreshing.

Pours a light half finger head, not much retention nor lacing. Light amber body, some cloudiness with no sediments. On the Nose, caramel malts straight up front, with hints of honey. Pretty absent after that. On the Palate. Fresh pine straight forward, a little sweet and fairly pungent caramel malts, with some hints of almost-burnt-toast. Finishes semi-dry and slightly creamy.

Look - Clear copper with a two finger frothy head that quickly got lost. No lacing.

Smell - Malt forward as all hell, but nothing else...uh oh.non

Taste - Well the malts are present...as well as a tad bit of grapefruit but otherwise bland.

Feel - Medium bodied with some creaminess but not much life.

Overall - This was a founders beer? Are you sure?

A tasty pale ale. Well balanced with the malt. It almost has a creamy mouthfeel. But the hops are there. The grapefruit and pine hoppiness is medium. But you will know you're having a pale ale not a overly bitter IPA. I'm glad I have a six and I'll have this again!

Appearance: Pours an orange amber color.

Overall: This is a mildly sweet beer with a nice dry hoppy finish. This is definitely in the style of pale ales. Good bitter beer for the hop heads. Very good IPA not too overwhelming.

Picked up a sixer of these, pretty decent. More citrus than im used to, definite grapefruit flavor. Aroma followed the flavor, tart very malty. Deep orange color. Pretty accurate rating on here IMO.

A: [4.00] The beer is an apricot color. It poured out with a 1/2 finger of white head. The head has varied bubbles and dissipates quickly. The bottle lists the IBUs (35) the ABV (5.4%) and the born on date (03/06/15)

S: [3.50] I think there is an apricot smell. Maybe candied apricot.

T: [3.75] There is pine up front. The beer mildly sweetens in the middle and has a dry hoppy finish.

M: [3.75] It is a bit tight and dry from the hops.

O: [3.75] I really like this beer. Founders is great because the bottle has all of the info needed. It has a lot of hop character packed into 35 IBU. The nose was the low light - but it is still decent. I will drink this one again.

Bottled 03/07/15

Appearance - Pours a hazy golden orange with a thin, off-white head. Sub-par retention, resulting in a mostly barren surface and a thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass.

Smell - Hop notes that hit on floral and citrus character. Big, bready malt aroma makes for a balanced aroma.

Taste - Follows the nose. Big, bready malt sweetness upfront. Light hop spice before citrus pith and grassy hop bitterness hits near the finish leaving a balanced, bittersweet aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with bitey carbonation, leaving a crisp, dry finish.

Overall - Good pale, but despite the balance, lacks an intriguing flavor profile. Seems to be missing that 'X Factor'. Not bad, just not very interesting.

Whoa, this is tough for me. Surprisingly unimpressed with this Founders pale ale. Expected a little bite and flavor, got too much mild. Average at best compared to say a Dales. Easy drinking, good for a beginner to pale ales or to offer a slight hop taste, but not much more.

Served cool from 350ml bottle into half pint glass.

L) Amber, very hazy (floating yeast??), thin white head.

S) Deep malty odour, like the malt extract used in home-brew bitters and floral hops. Really good.

T) Not as malty as the nose suggests. Dry, bitter hops, none of that juicy / piney business here. Hints of sweetness and floral notes at the back of the mouth in the aftertaste.

F) Quite fizzy, with a definite drying out of the mouth.

O) Not the best American IPA I have had by a long stretch and nowhere near as good as their Centennial IPA, but still a decent drink.

DATE TASTED: April 16, 2015... GLASSWARE: Brew at the Zoo pint... OCCASION: a good, long day needs an ale night... APPEARANCE: pours a copper amber body that teems with life--swirling, active bubbles and steady, upward effervescence; reasonably thick, two-finger white head stays packed as the glass settles; nice finger-like tracings on the outtro... AROMA: floral yes, as the Cascades promise; some subtle caramel and cereal offer a reasonable allure ... PALATE: lively rush at the tongue and teeth; medium-bodied and creamy, with a pleasant, long finish--what a worthwhile pale ale should embody... TASTE: mellow, almost apologetically light flavors--hops are floral and only peacefully bitter; the caramel malts keep this secure... OVERALL: quite sessionable, with the hint of dank wood at the end that keeps the experience earthy and heavier than expected; from a leftover surprise pack--judging on that alone (about $1 a beer in the 12-pack), a win...

A: golden/copper color, white head that quickly dissipates.

S: funky straw-like aroma, hop spice.

T: initial malt/honey sweetness, quickly moves to bitter and then finishes with a floral/spicy pop which releases into a bit of a juicy finish.

M: light on the palate, medium carbonation.

O: a nice pale ale, though not consistent with the normal citrus aromas and flavors typically offered.

On tap at the Bryant Lake Bowl. Brilliant copper gold under a 1" white foam collar that clings to the side of the glass. Floral citrus nose with traces of fruit. Sweet malt and light fruit on the palate give way to a balancing citrus rind bitterness. Medium body and carbonation. A bold, easy to drink pale ale.

Draft in a pint glass....nitro....thus the incredible creamy mouthfeel. Light brown/Amber with a 1/2 inch creamy head that stayed until draft was half gone. Light hoppy nose. Tasted as expected light malt...light hop...slightly bitter... The nitrogenized draft made for a pleasant creamy mouthfeel...some would call it flat, but again just how I expected it to be......I had two!

Pours an enticing golden copper with a nice foam head; good lace retention throughout. A fruity aroma hits you as well as a malt backbone and some floral esters that develop as it warms. Spicy, herbal, and bold piney hops taste as well as a slight lemon finish. Good pale malt backbone; I nevertheless would have liked some of the fruity elements of the aroma to match the taste a tad more. Medium light bodied, prickly carbonation and very drinkable; definetely a session brew. I liked it a lot and will get again for sure.

What was missing for me when I had this beer was the smell and taste. Hardly any smell at all and then the flavor just came up short for me. Part of the issue, though, is that I am a Stout, Breakfast Stout, and IPA lover, so Pale Ales just don't do it for me. However, I have had other pale ales and enjoyed them more than this particular one. This is my least favorite Founders beer.

3/21/15 (Bottle) - Nice foggy golden brown pour, minimal head, mild carbonation. Citrus and malt scent prevalent. Nice contrast of citrus and bitter hops. Light clean and refreshing feel. Overall very good beer.
