Appearance: A golden color with a minimal head. Slight head retention. Carbonation bubbled throughout.

Smell: A slight sour aroma, possibly from the slight hop presence.

Taste: This is really what I imagine with a pale ale. The hops are there but at the same time don't provide a powerful impact. I think anyone starting to mess around with craft beer would really enjoy this one. There is a honey like sweetness hidden in the undertones of this brew.

Mouthfeel: The hops bite a little bit but quickly yield to a smoothness that makes this beer go down very quickly.

Overall: Like I said, I think anyone who was looking for a very solid beer to begin their transition into craft beer would enjoy this brew. Pale Ale's seem to be getting more and more hoppy but this beer sticks to the mold and really is very pleasant. Nothing to make you jump back but overall does the job.

Founders Dry Hopped Pale Ale

Gold/amber with a slight haze. Herbal scent. Light mouthfeel. Slight head and little lacing. Of ALL the Pale Ales I've had (NOT INCLUDING the India Pale Ale style) this Pale Ale made an INSTANT impression on me and actually SURPRISED me because it had the agressiveness of an IPA - certainly due the dry hop treatment. It instantly had a nice crisp burst of flavor with a citrusey edge and that slowly dissipating aura of a green forest. Very, very nice beer - NICE JOB! I have had about 7 styles of the FOUNDERS so far and I have liked every single one. I expect Pale Ales to be more malty - this beer encourages me to look for more dry hopped beers.

When I usually go for something from Founders, it tends to have a little more "meat" to it than a sessionable American Pale Ale, but I expect that this will prove to be excellent like its heavier, more robust counterparts. The pour yields a one-finger white head that doesn't stick around for very long. Aroma is a very clever blend of a sharp, biting lemon zest with a ton of floral hops. Unsurprisingly, I find "100% Cascade Hops" in the description: a very welcome trait, in my book. An evident sweet sugary bready, malt backbone can be detected as well.

Taste is very, very smooth. The first thing that hits you is that sharp floral lemon noted in the aroma, but as it works its way toward the back of your mouth, there's a slight waxy bitterness the brings out the "floral" nature of the hop profile in a much more pronounced fashion. Malts are fairly absent from the taste, as I can only faintly pick out the general "sweet" bready notes I found in the aroma. Others seem to find them more forthcoming in the taste, but whatever. Carbonation is medium, and the slick mouthfeel makes this incredibly sessionable. Again, this isn't going to blow any minds, but it would be foolish to think that this is the beer's intention. Get a 6-pack of this, find some good company, and make a short night of it.

Poured this beer into a goblet. The beer pours a light orange/copper color. The thin head and light carbonation translate to a smooth drink. Smells like a traditional IPA with a citrus-y flavor. Though it's smooth when going down, it tastes fairly bitter in the mouth - almost uncomfortable.

IPA's aren't my top choice, but even so, this isn't my favorite.

Pours a golden amber - cloudy - with a bubbly white head.

Smells of citrus lemon and grapefruit, some bready malt and slight floral bouquet.

Big grapefruit - sweet and bitter - up front, followed by a chewy bread, malt middle. Finishes dry with floral notes and bitter herb. A delicious pale ale with more character than most that I have tried.

A- Orange/light amber colored body with some floaters in it. Mostly transparent with a thin white head that leaves a ring of bubbles.

S- Fruity hop aroma with citrus and apricot coming through. Sweet malts comes in the form of some bready notes.

T- Nice mix of sweet malt and those fruity flavors in the nose. Very little pine, but the citrus in the hops comes through. Nice balance of malt and fruity hops.

M- Medium bodied, medium to high carbonation with a crisp feel.

O- Nice, solid pale ale. The fruity hop flavors make this one different.
