A: Dark gold, slighy orange hue. A white half finger head with great lacing as this one goes down.
S: a bit lacking, this. Floral and pine notes, but not overwhelming as i expect from Founders. Some sweet, bready notes as well.
T: starts out with a decent amount of malts and biscuity flavors, sweet I'd say. Transitions into the dry, bitter, hoppy ale i expected. Not as floral or piney as the nose would indicate, just bitter. A tad lacking since the malts seemed more defined.
M: slightly creamy, mild to medium carbonation. Medium bodied. Interesting finish as its wet on the sides and back of tongue, but dry as hell on the roof of my mouth.
O: a good beer overall, but could stand a bit more balance in the flavor. I attribute the skew towards bitterness to the dryhopping. Nice for the summer.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: hazy light golden-orange hue with a nice effervescence and a thin finger of frothy ivory foam. Decent.

Smell: hop aroma is strong but not overwhelming; hops are citrusy and funky in character. Not bad, but there's a certain acidic dryness I don't love.

Taste: nice, big citrusy hop flavor with a somewhat dry and biscuity malt backbone. Quite good, and a very classic pale ale character.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a decent carbonation and moderate creaminess.

Overall: a decent pale ale with a very classic flavor profile. I would have this again.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Pours a plane-Jane yellow with a one-finger head that slowly diminishes to ~1/8" but lingers at that level
S: Very floral along with a solid malt backbone and a hint of hops
T: Matches the nose- floral with a good malt/hop balance
M: Light to medium bodied; pleasant with good carbonation
O: Nothing spectacular but very enjoyable, and with a moderate ABV and very balanced flavors/mouthfeel it would be nice to kick back several during a game or warm summer afternoon.

A- A somewhat cloudy, hazy yellow pour into my DFH glass. Nice foamy, brilliant white head that fades kinda quickly and leaves little drips and drabs of lacing.

S- Wet hay, fresh cut grass, and some subtle hints of citrus. Little hints of pine, but mostly malt, yeast and subdued hops. Nothing special here.

T- Wet hay and grass just like the nose tells you. A little honey sweetness, and some touches of hops. Nothing that really stands out. Ordinary at best.

M- Decent carbonation, some malty sweetness and lingering hops. Average at best.

O- Meh... not really much to tell here. Very subtle and subdued all around. The hops aren't hoppy enough, the malts aren't malty enough. I'll pass on this in the future.

Bottled 3 April 2012.

Pours medium golden yellow, totally see-through, with one finger of white head. Retention and lacing are fine.

Smell is an airy light blend of citrus and pine hops. Sometimes grapefruit comes to the fore, sometimes it's sent to the background by the light aromas of a pine forest. Everything about it is buoyant and ethereal. Lots of pleasant hop smells without any sharpness, and with just enough malt support. Very nice.

Mouthfeel is plenty good enough. Starts out low on carbonation, but that picks up. Finish is quick, more watery than dry, with a faint little bit lingering in the back and sides of the mouth.

Taste is actually pretty bland. Faint grainy malts, some grassy hop flavors, and a short push of bitterness. But it's all subdued, like there's something holding the flavors down.

The smell makes this beer what it is. The flavors are fine, but they're not potent enough or complex enough to satisfy. But the smell is divine.
