A - Pours a hazy dark gold color, with barely a head minimal lacing.

S - Really sweet honey, hops, and citrus.

T - Citrus, pine, honey, extremely sweet. Really bitter almost tastes like an IPA to me which is not a bad thing, but I prefer my pale ales to not be this bitter.

M - light/medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

This pale ale is cloudy with a light orange amber color. I received a thin, half a finger's head and little to no lacing from this bottle. Nice color, though. Has a very sweet malty smell with a hint of citrus and grains. Faint aroma but very pleasant. The sweet malt hits first in the flavor, followed by a smooth rush of bittering hops and light grain, with a touch of fruit. This one leaves you empty handed on the finish, dry and watery. Very drinkable, though. Crisp feel with medium carbonation and a medium body. Overall the only thing I didn't like was the finish in the mouth. Founders has a lot to offer, and I wouldn't make the pale ale a top priority to try among a lot of the other brews. But this is a good, mild session beer.

Poured into a Duvel tulip from a bottle with the date unreadable.

A: Hazy orange/amber with a thin white head that dissipates quickly to some lacing and a small coating.

S: Light citrus and earthy notes with a subtle sweetness to it. Inviting, I just wish it were a tad stronger.

T: A bit bland, there's a pale malt with slight hops bitterness coming through at the end, but overall it's a bit watery and forgettable.

M: Almost light bodied, but more to the medium bodied side. There's light carbonation, but just barely.

O: Perhaps an old bottle, the date LOOKS like it said it's from August of 2011, so it's probably a bit dated though it was kept in the fridge the whole time. Either way, I don't care much for this, there's just not much to make me want to try it again.

Slightly hazy golden color.

Light aroma of herbal and citrus hops

Gentle flavors of sweet and toasty malt with a mild soapy hop character.

Medium body with a moderate herbal hop finish.

An unmistakable APA if a bit milder than the likes of Sierra Nevada. Maybe not one to seek out, but definitely one to be thankful for if it was handed to you as you walked in the door of a friend's house.

Reviewing the Dry Hopped Pale Ale from Founders Brewing Company.
Score: 79

Bottled 09/12/11, served in a pint glass, and enjoyed on 01/17/12.

Appearance: Pours a transparent/translucent honey yellow color with two fingers of white foamy head that quickly settles into a thin layer atop the beer. Average lacing. 3.5/5

Smell: Has a grains and apples aroma with a hint of pear. Smells almost like a cider/apple juice with pilsner qualities. Some malted barley and wheat in there too, with light floral qualities. 3/5

Taste: Has a wheaty pale ale flavor with a lighter-than-usual amount of hops and malty citrus flavor. A lot more grainy than expected when I bought this, though some was expected based on the nose. Kinda sweet, malty grains on the midpalate. Has a briefly lingering finish that tastes like a better version of Budweiser. 3/5

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, medium-light carbonation carbonation. Finishes malty and slightly bitter. 3/5

Overall: I know this bottle is four months old, so maybe the beer just was not fresh enough, but I was very underwhelmed by Founders here. This one is not bad, but it's not good. I suppose I might have to try this one fresh again sometime in the future, but for the time being there are now two Founders beers that I do not like -- this and Cerise.

Recommendation: A ho-hum Pale Ale that can be skipped by all. If you need an everyday, always available Pale Ale, just keep drinking good ol' Sierra Nevada.

Pairings: Chicken salad?

Cost: $9.99 for a six pack.

Ok Founders, I love ya, and you love me. You make some friggin awesome beers, and I can luck out running into all the great big magic in a barrels such as KBS and CBS, then some FBS and run into ABC, NBC, CNN... but NEVER do I EVER find your DANG Pale Ale ANYWHERE! Until now. Behold! Brandishing in a nonic pint glass, off we go. Bottled December 2nd 2011.

A simple white and foamy head, with some good retention, slowly falling and leaving scattered lacing, clumpy too. Body is a dark gold and clear, LOTS of rising carbonation much like a pilsner.

This is a real interesting nose for a Pale Ale. Lots of dry ripping dry BAKED grain bread. I mean it smells like a bread factory. But there is also a slight off putting aroma which is hard for me to pin down.

Taste is malt and very dry with a decent enough feel. THere's really not much going on here but at least it is pleasurable. Tolerable malt and hops, a bit of ripping grain action, sort of fruity almost like an English Bitter.

Overall though very interesting. It does sort of remind me of Bell's Pale Ale but nowhere near as bad, considerably better by far. It's alright.

three finger frothy head on a pure golden, hazy body. lots of lacing and nice head retention. Aroma is a nice orange peel and grapefruit. A little soapy. I felt this to be very aromatous but many other reviewes didnt feel so. May be due to this one being bottled. The flavor is actually a little disappointing. Flavor is more soapy and way to watered down. There is a very light earthy and citrus mote. Light to medium body and moderate carbonation. Overall aromatous but watered down is what I take from this. I love Founders but I this one let me down in the flavor.

Served in a Bruery snifter.

Not sure why it's taken me so long to review this guy, especially considering how many times I've had it in the past year or so... Oh well, here goes: It pours a clear light amber topped by a finger or so of dirty white foam. The nose comprises pine resin, mint, a touch of menthol, light spicy greens, and soft caramel. The taste holds notes of pine needles, lightly toasted caramel, light balsa, grass, light greens, flowers, and the slightest possible touch of orange peel. The body is a rather light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fairly smooth feel. Overall, a pretty enjoyable pale ale, one that's not too hoppy, but doesn't go too far in the other direction either. It's almost too easy to drink at times...
