Had this at the 13th annual microbrewers fest in indianapolis yesterday...It is a tribute to gumballhead (three floyds), which is my favorite wheat beer.

Ap: Hay color, white head

Smell: Citrus

Taste: starts with the usual bread/yeast flavor and ends with a little bit of grapefruit citrus

Mo: medium - light, crisp.

Overall, not as good as gumball head as it is a bit milder. Nice tribute though.

Founders- Dumbo Head

A- Bright light yellow with a small thick sticky head.
S- Light pine and citrus hops blended into a tangy wheat, straw and hay nose.
T- Light crisp citrus hops, hay, straw, wheat with a light touch of pine and a touch of sweet lemon honey.
M- Very crisp, sweet and juicy. sweet, sugary and mild dryness.

Overall- Delicious, crisp and citrusy. A tad light but quite flavorful and refreshing.

Served on tap in a tulip, never had gumballhead, so this is not a comparison.

A- Dumbo has a light golden/slight copper look to it. Just the smallest bit of haze to this The head was semi thick with a off white look. Sparse lacing on some spots of the glass. nice looking beer.

S- Smells like a APWA but with more ummmpph. The citrus really comes out of the hops and some sweet malt is backing that. The malt giving off some baked bread in the morning. A lot of fresh wheat.

T- I like this beer. It's light and refreshing. The taste is everything you would want in a APWA, a style i don't go out of my way for, this beer being a exception. Just to run down this has citrus fruit without being too much, malt wheat/yeast, and a dash of grain, in that order.

M- So light and a good amount of crisp. This just rolls down the throat very easy, making you want more. Light bodied with good carb from the tap, no complaints here. Just the slightest bit of bite from the hops used, but no alcohol, or over appearence from any ingredient.

D- I could drink this all day and love it. While not being so overpowered with ingredients, the ones that are there are blended to perfection. The low abv certainly helps the drink on this alot. One of my favorites from this style.

On tap at The Bavarian Lodge - Lisle, IL

Poured a somewhat cloudy yellow with a slight orange hue and was topped with a bubbly white head. Great lacing left rings all the way down the glass as I drank the ale. Aromas were citrus hops with some wheat and floral notes - very clean and pleasant aroma. Tastes were excellent at first, but seemed to tone down gradually. Grapefruit and the zest of lemon with some wheat notes at first, followed by a leafy and oily hop character that lingers on the finish. Very refreshing with some hops to boot. Mouth-feel was light to medium bodied with plenty of carbonation - acceptable for the style. Overall, I really enjoyed this offering. Seeing as the names are similar and others are commenting on this as well: I wish I had a 3F Gumballhead to compare it to back-to-back. In my opinion both are very acceptable examples of a hopped up wheat ale.

On tap at Capone's (thanks Matt for getting this rarity in!).

Poured a lighter to medium yellow color with a small sized white head. Aromas of wheat, citrus, spiciness (cloves and peppers), and grassy. Tastes of citrus, spicy, grass, and wheat. Very nice, and for me, especially for a Wheat Ale.

On tap at Capone's.

A-Pours a clear gold with a tinge of amber (?), with a decent white head and good retention and lacing.

S-Some rather faint citrus hops and a bit of malt. A bit lacking in wheat character.

T-Which follows in the taste as well. Some peppery hops but with nothing to back them up really. Disappointingly one dimensional.

M-Light bodied and crisp.

D-Gotta give this one a thumbs down. Maybe my expectations were too high as I was expecting something very like Gumballhead. Bummer...

A hazy yellow body with a small white head. Not great retention, but a little bit of lacing.

A nice hoppy aroma that is floral and citric. A touch of wheat twang in the background.

Hops and a wheat backbone come together here to create a tasty, balanced beer. The hops provide some citric, grapefruti flavors that a little bit bitter but add some sweetness also. The wheat has a slightly toasted flavor and comes with a touch of bubble gum flavor.

Mouthfeel is light and crisp, moderate carbonation.

This is a pretty drinkable beer, I really enjoyed this one.

On tap at Jerry's Sandwiches in Chicago.

A wheat beer that doesn't smell like a wheat beer, a Little Sumpin' Sumpin' before there was one. Smells like a hopped up wheat beer in the vein of Gumballhead or Hop Sun but more even handed and delicate than that, wheat is allowed to come though a bit more and the hops do not overpower the rest of what the beer has to offer.

Taste is something else. Clean, crisp, smooth, lightly carbonated and full of flavor. Hops do their work, yes they certainly are able to carry their weight, but there is so much else going on here. Delightfully light, grapey, orange citrus lightly sweet maltiness. An incredibly balanced beer, not one over bearing quality. I think I might just have to order another and I did!

Pours a golden orange color with a short fluffy white head.

Scent of hops, citrus, honey and wheat. Light and crisp, very good.

Taste of strong resiny hops, wheat, and citrus. Hoppy and delicious, rivals Gumballhead.

Mouthfeel is light bodied with strong carbonation.

Served in a pint glass at Founders 5/25/08. Thanks to HeatherAnn for the assist!

A: Served a pale gold with a slight haze. Tiny little head that leaves a little bit of lace in the glass.

S: Hops! Glorious citrus/pineapple hops. Perfect amount of toasted wheat/grain.

T: See above. Tastes just as it smells.

M: Dry and spicy. Fruity hops and dry graininess.

D: Unbelievable drinkability. This could be thee perfect APWA. Gumballhead has met its' match!
