On tap at Founder's for the release of 2013 KBS. Pours a slightly hazy and cloudy golden and yellow hybrid color. A foamy white ring is all that's left once the already small head dissipates completely. Some slightly wet patches of lacing are left behind.
Not sure what an "extra" pale ale is exactly, but I'd never turn down anything from Founders. The aroma has a moderately low, peppery-hop character. I guess I say "moderately low" because I was expecting more hops due to the work "extra" in the beer title. That's what I get for jumping to conclusions, though. With some time, the hop profile opens up a bit more while still retaining that peppery feel; ashy and leafy with heavy herbal characters. Some light fruity notes join the party, as well. Lemon zest and orange peel rest lightly on the even lighter malt infrastructure. Pretty muzzled aroma when all was said and done.
The taste is basically a continuation of the aroma - grassy, herbal, and slightly spicy hops with a refined but noticeable bitterness that rides the roof of the mouth and back of the tongue. The fruit may be a bit heavier on the palate than the nose - more orange peels and lemon zest, however not too much citrus or anything else, really. Malts are also a bit more substantial - sweet and lightly bready. A bit more orange zest in the finish along with a lasting, faint bitterness from the herbalness of the hops. Thin-medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation and a lightly crisp mouth feel.
Not a bad beer, but at the same time, it didn't really have much going on. Kind of boring, but still somewhat enjoyable and easy to put down. Definitely a weaker offering from Founders, but it was a bit better than the Diamond Mountain Brown ale I had the same day.

On tap at the brewery. As close as Founders will get to a lager, it reminded me of a dry hopped lager. Light yellow with no head, and a decent hop flavour. A faint hop aroma.Average mouthfeel. Nice summer beer.I am used to the understated hop taste of an English hopped bitter. Easy drinking, good flavour for sessionabl alcohol.

A - Ultra clear and straw in colors. 1 finger white head with light carbonation. Head disappears rather slowly. 4/5
S - Base malt. Very lightly hopped. Hint of rice? Unsure of this last aroma though... Something else besides base malt and hops, but unsure of what it is... 3.5/5
T - Malty, yeasty. Some graininess and very light hops. Foral notes are somewhat noticeable but not much so. Grassy finish. Ever so slight spiciness (pepper). 3.5/5
M - Very light and clean. Lingering bitterness. 3.75/5
O - Drinkability is very nice, and works well as a session beer. Taste reflects what is hinted at in the aroma. Very light and clean. Not a beer that I will order again from Founder's due to other offerings but I'm glad I at least gave this a shot.

After absorbing the fairly pedestrian appearance of golden and clear with little to no head activity, I took in the nose of muted grains under an odd freshwater thing (think of the faint smell of a lake). Taste supplied plenty of corn taste with a solid bitter backbone just prior to the not too dry, not too cloying mouth feel. All around clean drinker, great session beer and likely a superb gateway beer but not the most earth shaking offering when lined up against all their other fun treats.

On tap at Founders last week. Reviewed from notes.
Pours a clear light golden color with a nice white head and a good bit of lacing. The nose is pretty plain with some very faint malt character. Nothing too complex or hop-forward. Flavor has very faint hops with some light grain. Crisp carbonation and a light body. Well-made and a good introductory beer, but pretty boring.

Had a pint glass on tap at Founders Brewing.
(A)- Pours a hazy golden yellow color. Not much head to speak of except some light white bubbles and very minimal lacing.
(S)- Really fruity of lemon, orange peel, and an apricot, yet almost grapefruit aroma.
(T)- Really dry! Fruits of apricot, and lemon. Slightly tart. Reminds me strongly of DFH's Aprihop in comparison.
(M)- Smooth and dry. Really fruity. Good carbonation.
(D)- Crisp and really fruity for the style, but balanced and an all-around good beer for a summer saturday early afternoon.
