aka: Founders takes another successful crack at doing coffee beer.
The nitro tap Espresso Porter lives up to its promise: the nitro gives it the characteristic beautiful pour and smoothness in the mouth.
The flavour on this is a well-balanced blend of roasty porter with vanilla and coffee. The coffee is present but not overly dominant, it's a backdrop to the porter.
Very easy to drink, and a fine session type coffee beer.
Overall: Another tasty tap room special by the folks at Founders. I would be happy to have a few of these on any given trip to GR.

Very dark brown/black pour. Frothy is definetely a good descriptor of the head, which is tan. Very strong coffee aroma with some roast malt and chocolate hints. Nice creamy mouthfeel from the nitro. Wonderful coffee flavors also accented by some assorted chocolates. Hint of lactose. Finish nice like a mocha coffee. If you are a stout fan, this brings in some elements of some sweet and American stouts. Pretty darn good.

sampled on nitro-tap at the brewery dec 20/08.
pours nearly black and opaque with a thick, dense light brown head. the head lasts forever - after 5 minutes it has still barely moved. tons of lace.
aroma is great. espresso. dark chocolate. toasted multi-grain bread. biscuit. hint of alcohol. bit of earthy character too.
taste is good. espresso. bit of roast that seems more from the bean than malt. dark and milk chocolate. nice fruity character too - bit of dark fruit, bit of grapefruit. medium bitterness level. big multi-grain bread and biscuit character.
mouthfeel is great. silky smooth well integrated medium-low carbonation. just over medium body.
drinkability is great. good balance. liked the contribution from the espresso. good stuff.

A new coffee brew from Founder's, guess what? It is freakin' awesome!
A-The deepest, darkest brown with a crazy, creamy tan head that reduced oh so slightly and produced nice lacing.
S-Light dark roasted coffee notes up front. Backing aromas of sweet cream, dark roasted malt and vanilla swirl in the undercurrent.
T-Strong, but not overbearing, dark roasted coffee initially. Backing notes of sweet cream, chocolate and vanilla beg for your attention. A suggestion of dark roasted and earthy hops contribute an added bitterness in the finish.
M-Medium bodied and beyond super creamy smooth! This may be the smoothest, most lisciou brew I have ever had! Flavours are long lasting and linger throughout the experience.
D-An exceptional brew to say the least! All of the parts come together to form an incredibly flavourful and drinkable brew. Simply outstanding! This beer was one of the highlights of my Thanksgiving weekend beer road trip to Michigan.

Nitro pour on tap at the brewery, 12 oz glass.
Pours a dark brown, basically black, very thick tan head forms, drops nice sheets of lace on the glass, very good retention, never leaves and keeps a solid layer. Smell is nice, rich espresso, chocolate, nice roastiness, vanilla and toffee, more coffee which is quite intense, dark fruit, smells pretty awesome. Taste is similar, chocolate, toffee, nice roastiness, espresso although not as much as the aroma, nice bitter bean roast, some fruit and vanilla, porter in the finish, really nice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation, very smooth and drinkable. Pretty great beer, tons of espresso in the aroma, but the robust porter character comes through in the second layer of flavour, really nice.

I was lucky enough to find this on-tap at the brewery over the holidayswhile in Grand Rapids.
It arrived at barside dark brown/black with that frothy tan head just peak'n over the side. Good carbonation, medium body with good lace and head maintenance.
The aroma of fresh brewed coffee with cream. nice
Taste the expresso bean comes forth with dark toasted malts. A hint of cream and vanilla bean come forth, as dose chocolate and the corner crust of burnt toast.
Mouthfeel and drinkability, so easy from the nitro. Its soft on the mouth with a slight dark after dryness.
I very much enjoyed the Frangelic Stout when they had that and when I saw thisone on tap, oh ya, gotta try. Worth it indeed.

On nitro-tap at Founders brewpub on 11/29/08. Served in a 12-oz. glass.
A - While not quite black, this porter poured the darkest of dark brown with a creamy crown of nougat-colored head that yielded some beautiful leopard spot lacing. Very solid head retention. This was a beautiful nitro pour!
S - Mild notes of coffee and cream with hints of vanilla bean and dark roasted malt.
T - This porter boasts a prominent coffee presence that is not overbearing at all. Coffee flavor is complemented by hints of chocolate, vanilla and a slight nutty character. Cream sweetens the pot a bit and counters the bitterness of the coffee and hops. The dark roasted malt emerges even more in the backend, with just a tinge of earthy hop bitterness in the finish.
M - Super creamy texture with soft carbonation and an exceptionally smooth mouthfeel. This porter feels absolutely wonderful in the mouth. Finish is mildly bitter.
D - This is an exceptionally drinkable porter with all of the flavor and coffee goodness I was expecting. The nitro pour really hit this one out of the park. Simply an outstanding beer, and definitely one of the highlights of my recent Mid-West beer excursion.
