Got a 12oz bottle in a trade, bottled by Founders. Only 50-some bottles from the release. Like stated, poured from a 12oz dark bottle with no label. Pours a pitch black, pretty thick looking at first glance as well. Absolutely no head rises for the first 3/4 of the bottle, so I swirled and poured the rest a bit more aggressively. Now a very nice size brown head rises...very frothy, and has excellent retention! Even leaves VERY sticky patchy lacing all around the glass. An ideal looking stout!
Aroma at first is malty, roasty, and ironically...a tad hoppy. Then I let it sit for a few minutes. Now its awesome! Loads of sweet maple syrup and chocolate.
Flavor...WOW. Out of this world. This beer did not disappoint! Great thick chewy mouthfeel, chocolate, toasted malts, and thick sweet maple syrup! I'm not sure if this is so chunky due to it being bottled...but it's a little unusual. Regardless, it doesn't scare me away. Thick, low carbonation, chewy, malty, sweet, lightly boozy mouthfeel. Delicious! This needs to get bottled more often!
