On tap at Finnegan's in Plainfield - 8oz pour served in a snifter - Have tried this on tap a few times over the last couple years, finally took some notes...
Pours a very dark brown, pretty much black, with some brown around the edges. Thick. Two fingers of dense dark tan head forms and lasts for a while, leaving a lot of lacing behind...
Smell was initially like 100% maple syrup. Sweet, molasses. Lots of chocolate and hints of oak and vanilla. Just a bit of roasted bitterness, touch of coffee...
Took a sip and then licked the sludge off of my teeth, it was pure maple syrup. Sweet, bittersweet dark chocolate. Roasty. Very strong oak taste in the finish, as well as a lingering oaky dryness in the aftertaste...Complex and delicious...
Thick and chewy. Sticky. A bit of alcohol warmth after a while...
Dangerously drinkable for such a thick, heavy beer. Incredible.

Honored to try the last batch ever of this fantastic beer. This is the 2011 version and according to the founders rep here, is the last of this beer. This is one of the finest beers that I have ever had. As close to a perfect drink as you can get. It tastes like breakfast stout with a subtle maple taste. Wow!
