Served on tap. Poured into tulip glass.
A. Hazy orange. No transparency. Very little white head. Nice lacing follows down.
S. Boozy. Pungent but not off putting. Got some hops but not strong. Slight citrus aroma.
T. Off balance. There's a smooth boozyness, which I like, but no initial hop flavor. The hops do hit in a second wave along with a piney/woody flavor. The pine/wood does not linger in the aftertaste.
M. Quite full actually. Not quite syrupy but quite thick. Best part of this beer.
O. The Double Trouble hoppyness and fruitiness died while barreling. All of that is smoothed out and replaced with wood and booze. Founders overdid it on this one. People are going to dig this based on the hype machine but there is nothing to see (taste) here. Double Trouble is a good DIPA, but aging it out doesn't work.
