Pours a slightly hazy deep golden copper with no head, but a whitish ring of foam around the rim.
Muted citrus, a hint of oak, and bourbon form the initial aroma. Slightly sweet caramel notes, along with vanilla and resin, add complexity. Fresh cut grass surfaces late. More subtle than expected.
Booze encompasses the flavor initially. There's some oak dryness and bitterness, along with resiny underpinnings. Deep caramel and toasted notes surface after a few sips. After the bourbon and oak subside, there's a muted grapefruit and lemon character. Becomes earthy late.
Body is moderate to almost a touch light, with modest carbonation and substantial alcohol warmth. It's borderline fusel.
The balance is bitter and boozy, and the rest of the flavors are unfortunately dwarfed. Citrus is pretty muted.
Improves as it warms, but not enough to merit excellent status. Still too bitter for my palate.
