Fast review live at Publick House. Full pour into Founders tulip, keg just tapped last night.
A- Pours a translucent golden orange that is a little bit on the darker side as far as IPAs go. About 2 fingers of white foamy head that slowly recedes to a thin layer leaving layered lacing around the glass. Slow rising carbonation bubbles that have excellent consistency.
S- Bourbon predominates with a nicely integrated balance of citrus hops providing notes of grapefruit and lemons supported by a lightly sweet malt background.
T- Sweet bourbon balanced with grapefruit from hops and a light malt background with a bit of oak. Overall very nice, not as boozey as I was afraid of, nice balance between bourbon and hops with bourbon dominating slightly more. Only complaint is that it is a little bit too sweet.
M- Creamy, smooth, nice carbonation, easy drinking especially considering the abv.
O- I'm not a huge fan of barrel-aged IPAs, but this one wasn't bad. A little bit on the sweet side from th bourbon but also a nice hop presence. It would be interesting to see how this ages, but it is drinking nicely now. I'd recommend trying it out but it isn't something I could have in large quantities or all the time.
Serving type: on-tap
