The barrel aging makes it rare, but I didn't find it particularly exceptional. It is a very good beer, with an excellent balance between hops, malt, and subtle barrel notes. But there is a kind of mystique and hype around this beer that I don't feel it lives up to. Can a beer be too complex? That might be part of what I get here. Have difficulty picking out distinct elements in the nose (initially all I could smell was sanitizer on the glass and it was too cold - which is a serving issue, not a beer issue). There is a bready note, some vanilla, some woodiness, and a muddle of citrus, tropical fruit, and pine resin. The bourbon really comes out in the nose as it warms.
Mouthfeel leaves a bit of graininess on the tongue and some boozy warmth. Surprisingly, the bourbon character isn't as present in the taste. Not as drying as you might expect.
Overall, I enjoyed it and I'm glad to have had a chance to try it, but I wouldn't jump through hoops to get it.
